people screaming and hollering so i came outside to put something in the trash and that's when i saw a line of ambulances and people were crying and stuff and then i saw somebody getting in the ambulance and i saw a little book bag so i'll figured it was a child that got hit by the car. yeah. and then the mother came. somebody ran and got the mother and then she came. she was hysterical and everything. >> reporter: again, the child rushed to children's hospital where she is listed in extremely critical condition. pieces of the hit-and-run vehicle are scattered all over the street here on 63rd. that will be collected by accident investigators. they also will check to see if any surveillance cameras on the block and there are several captured all or parts of the incident. we will continues to monitor this situation out here and have more on "action news" later this evening. live here in the overbrook sections, i'm dann cuellar channel6 "action news." back to you guys.

monica. >> thank you, dann. philadelphia police say this handbag found in the back of a car is one of the keys to solving a purse snatching spree. tonight two people are under arrest for that attempted theft in northeast philadelphia. >> now police are trying to connect them to other crimes. three other women say their purses were stolen in a grocery store just like the attempted theft last night. stores in northeast philadelphia, hatfield and paoli were all targeted in the past week. action news reporter gray hall is live in northeast philadelphia tonight with the details. gray. >> reporter: rick and monica, those suspects were captured just last night at this acme behind me. tonight they are locked up in jail and police are working really hard to determine if they're connected to any other crimes. they've been captured on surveillance at several stores but police say these two are not your average customers. instead of shopping for groceries investigators say they are scoping out the place looking to snatch purses. >> it levers me speechless. i'm scared to get out my car

now. i'm scared for my purse. leave my purse in the trunk. >> reporter: ironically in each case the suspects are wearing the same clothes. thursday night came a possible break in this case. police say man and a woman fitting the description of the suspects and their getaway car tried to snatch a purse from this acme store in northeast philadelphia. in a strange twist an officer that just happened to be insides the store recognized the pair. >> the officer walked in he recognized them from the news coverage. he act like he didn't see them went back out got his partner. wanted to make sure it was them. waited to see what car they got into to see if it matched to the video he had seen on the news and at that time they stopped the vehicle. >> reporter: police are now trying to determine if the suspects are connected to other cases but are confident they are responsible for stealing a purse from an 84-year-old woman at a giant supermarket in northeast philadelphia on november 11th. hatfield police believe the suspects are also responsible for snatching a purse inside a shop rite on the same day. again the two in question matching the images from other

crimes. in another incident police say a duo matching that same description stole a woman's diaper bag while she was shopping with her 17 month old baby at an acme in paoli. >> we have two other cases we have been in contact with other jurisdictions. there's also other divisions in the city that have cases that we're putting together now so there is going to be more charges not only probable from philadelphia but from the outlying suburbs. >> reporter: all right, so back out live police have not released the names of those suspects because charges are still being processed. i did ask why it appears those suspects were wearing the same clothes in each of these cases. detectives tell me it's because they did not know their images were being plastered all across the tv. live in northeast philadelphia, gray hall channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, gray. police in south jersey now say the suspect and victim in last night's deadly shooting in hamilton township were in a relationship. officials say 51-year-old pauline lloyd was shot and killed by her boyfriend

50-year-old kelvin watford thinking that he was an intruder. she shot him. lloyd was on the phone with watford at the time. police say he told her he was returning from a trip when he was really coming into the house trying to surprise her. according to officials lloyd had the proper permits for that firearm. dozens of angry residents showed up to the hamilton township municipal building upset over a $90 fee. folks say the bill is an advertising fee for when the township lists liens for tax sale. many people in line today told "action news" it's the first time they've gotten a pink slip notifying them on a potential tax lien sale of their overdue payment. that overdue payment was allegedly for bills residents either got late or didn't get at all. >> it's absolutely horrendous. i'm a brand new homeowner. i've owned my home for just over a year and this is the way you're treating a new homeowner in your town. >> no, i didn't get a bill. this is a first beale. >> is that you're overdue. >> correct much. >> the township says the billing system was recently changed and not all 33,000

the excitement and the anticipation. i can step out of the way show you it is a very busy scene here, thousands of runners are picking up their race bibs, their packets, their t-shirts and yes, the weather on sunday is a big topic of conversation. people running saturday of course are thrilled with the forecasts. but sunday about 30,000 people will run the full 26.2-mile marathon. they come from all over the u.s. and about 40 different countries. many say it's not the cold that has them nervous it's the wind. >> i can do cold. i run really hot. i'm concerned about 35 miles an hour wind gusts. >> it affects you. it makes everything that much harder. you can't run against -- against the wind while you're freezing while you're already trying to convince yourself you can run that far in the first place. >> i'm from wisconsin. i'm all about it. as long as it's not snowing i'm good.

>> we have breaking news from northeast philadelphia about 12 minutes ago, a gyro plane crash landed here at northeast philadelphia airport. the good news is no injuries reported. we don't know what caused the crash but you see there investigators and emergency crews are at the scene and you can half see in the dark the wings of this airplane gyro plane up in the air. it's like a mini helicopter if you will with a rotor on the front and the back so crash landing in northeast airport. no injuries and officials are investigating what caused it. a lengthy construction project in chester county is finally complete after a serious crash damaged an historic bridge back in july of 2015. today that bridge and the road it's on reopened to traffic. vernon odom is live in

schuylkill township for us with there story tonight. vernon. >> reporter: good evening to you monica and to you, rick. great news for thousands who drive through valley forge park on a regular basis. they've been suffering a major inconvenience for well over a year now. but it's all over now. >> this is the best. the best lucky enough to be living near it. >> reporter: jan sacks and other local motorists were gleeful today when they learned for the first time since early in the summer of 2015 they could crisscross the old moss covered bridge. it reopened at 9:00 new york. the road was shut down since someone remains at large slammed into the historic bridge. when penndot repaired it tredyffrin launched a $17 million project to shore up a major sewer line. >> penndot did repairs to the bridge which took several months to do. following that we did a sewer project so which also necessitated the roads being

philadelphia. you can see patrol cars there down below. the officer was taken to jefferson hospital where apparently he's being treated. the alleged shooter is still at large we're told. details as to what led to this shooting not clear but again the officer is being treated. no word on any arrests. we of course will continue to follow the story. that off duty officer slot in the hand here in north philadelphia. we'll continue to follow the story and bring you more information as it becomes available. >> a delaware county school is helping make the holidays a little brighter for some local families. officials sat chester community charter school handed out 700 shop rite gift cards to parents today. it's an effort to subsidize the cost of thanksgiving dinner. this is the 17th year for that program. this weekend is literally going to the dogs in montgomery county. the national dog slow performance team put on a show today at the greater philadelphia expo center here in oaks. that's where the kennel club of philadelphia will host the national dog show this weekend. how fun is that? more than 1800 dogs are competing for the title of best in show.

here but it's going to be losing its grip as we get this cold front pushing in. here's that low pressure causing that blizzard like conditions across northern minnesota. that will be moving up to the north but what that will do is drag this cold front through. some shower activity with it. also some cloud cover thanks to the satellite you can see that and speaking of satellites, tomorrow evening is going to be a big time for meteorologists. this is when the goes-r weather satellite will be launched. now what is important about this is that there's going to be a lot more weather data. it will scan the earth five times faster, four times the resolution of current weather satellites so that means there's a lot more data. you can see when severe storms are developing. for the first time it will be able to actually map lightning. a lot of times storms before they become severe they have a lot of lightning so this will improve forecast accuracy, get the warnings out. it will also be a great tool to improve accuracy for hurricanes.

association it's a big deal for meteorologists. big deal tomorrow if you want another warm day. the day planner showing at 7 o'clock already 48 degrees. by 1 o'clock, 68, lots of sunshine through most of the day and then as that front gets closer in the evening that's when the clouds move. in that's when we'll also see a few showers. future tracker showing around 5 o'clock, clouds to the west, a few showers near berks county lancaster county. saturday at 10 o'clock look at this, some snow across the poconos could actually get a coating to an inch in the poconos and then that system pulls through. behind it we dry out on sunday but the winds, future tracker showing the winds 8:30 in the morning we're looking at wind chills in the 20's so it is going to feel like winter. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow it's sunny, it's warm, 70 degrees. some late showers with that front. behind it bitter cold winds on sunday, 48 degrees. monday even colder, 45. tuesday 48 and wednesday increasing clouds, 53 with app possibility of some rain.

more information as we get it here from north philadelphia. >> in politics now president-elect donald trump's transition to the white house. today we learned who will make up his national security team. trump has asked former army lieutenant michael flynn to serve as national security adviser. alabama senator jeff sessions was asked to be the next u.s. attorney general. and representative mike pompeo was tapped to be the new cia director. abc's maggie rulli is washington, d.c. tonight with reaction to those choices. good evening, maggie. >> reporter: good evening, monica. plenty of action coming out of the transition team today. as he starts to choose who is going to be joining him in the white house we're seeing some controversy. the day kicks offer with the flurry of announcements from team trump. >> president-elect is a man of action. we've got a great number of men and women with great qualifications come forward to serve this new administration and i'm humbled to be part of it.

>> donald trump is a phony a fraud. his promises are as worthless as a degree from trump university. >> reporter: and trump university's back in the headlines. the president-elect settled a lawsuit today there alleged trump u was a fraud from beginning to end. we're told that donald trump doesn't admit to doing anything wrong but under that settlement trump will be paying $25 million to more than 6,000 students of the university. in washington, maggie rulli for channel6 "action news. monica. >> thank you maggie. world news tonight with david muir will have more on president-elect's trump's picks for his security team. >> philadelphia police detectives remain on the scene of a murder in hunting park. chopper6 was over the scene along the 600 block of hunting park avenue. just about 90 minutes ago. professor are not releasing many details at this point but we know there one person was shot and has now died from his injuries. that person was taken to the hospital for treatment.

this is 61-year-old robert greene of north wales montgomery county. he's now facing child pornography charges for what police say they found on his home computer. detectives say greene's device contained 463 pictures and 49 videos of children and was configured so people could share files anonymously. he's free on bail tonight. from our delaware news room, elsmere resident 44-year-old brian glass is facing stalking charges this evening. investigators say that glass made threats against another man living along the 2700 block of eastwood drive. last flight that man asked police to escort him home. officers allegedly spotted glass behind the man's house. police say glass was armed with various weapons including a gun a sword did you know of duct tape and rope. detectives say this appears to have started because of a love triangle. a woman walking home from that a local wawa was suddenly attacked by an armed thief schenn never saw it coming. the surveillance video was taken along the 3700 block of l street on the seventh.

the 53-year-old victim had just left the wawa at l and eerie when a silver suv pulls up behind her two men get out one ran up behind the woman put his arm around her and stuck a gun to her chest. the man grabbed her bag and both suspects ran off before the incident cameras captured video of the suspects families take a look right there and if you recognize them please call police. a vacant building fell into a big pile of rubble wood and nails in north philadelphia this afternoon. it happened near 18th and ridge a the building was empty at the at the time of collapse. fortunately no one was hurt. the u.s. coast guard showed off its newest ship in cape may today. the fast response cutter will officially be commissioned tomorrow. but we got a tour for you a day early. the 153-foot boat will perform missions like search and rescue port security fishery patrols and drug enforcement. will operate along the coast between new jersey and north carolina. >> thousands of pounds of

opening on thanksgiving day. looks beautiful. >> it's that time of year. time now for another check of our "action news" traffic report tonight. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center with the very latest on a friday. hey, matt. >> some would say it's the most wonderful time of the week. not sure if you'd say that from a traffic perspective. it's one of the busiest times of the week right now and you can see that as we look live rick and monica, here at the roosevelt boulevard extension in east falls. jammed in both directions by the schuylkill. you also get that sense when you look at the big picture and see the speeds on 76. just 5 miles per hour there in the westbound lanes by south street. but, our couple issues on 95 northbound including that broken down vehicle by allegheny, they're gone so that's good. it's still jammed but at least the problems are gone. have a crash along city avenue at drexel road there by the point the highrise apartment complex. elsewhere in overbrook still have the crash to watch out for along 63rd and lansdowne. stick with 66 of 61st instead. we're watching this crash blue route 4,762nd one of the afternoon in the southbound direction. this is mostly on the shoulder

>> reporter: that's the motto of mitchell elementary school the k through eight school in southwest philadelphia needs 240 computers and are working to raise $94,000 to get them. they are doing it by literally following in their principal's footsteps. >> we set up a go fund me page mile for mitchell. the kids are doing their fun run today and i'm doing the marathon on sunday and so far we've raised about $15,000 of our $94,000 goal. >> reporter: friends and family sponsored friday morning's fun run so does the communities. >> every students was asked to try to get five one dollar donations so we'll be counting up the donations today and the school is only expecting to raise a small portion of what they need but they're hoping maybe some donors take notice and will help them fill the gap. >> we're actually a turn around school now because in the last four years our data has been on the decline but in the last year and a half we have completely revitalized the climate of the school. >> reporter: the school has resources from the district but in order to get their scores up, the principal says

the temperature 62 degrees after topping off at 70 this afternoon. 61 lehigh valley, the same for reading. 63 in wilmington and with a relatively calm wind. temperatures have already really dropped in millville and dover, back into the middle and upper 50's. doesn't take long once that sun sets to really kind of drop those numbers. there it is. a crystal clear satellite imagery as we look from boston new york city right through philadelphia down to raleigh but as we head to the west this is where that weather system is really kind of kicking its heels with blizzard-like conditions around minneapolis, northern parts of minnesota as well as the western great lakes and severe storms lining the actual cold front east of chicago and saint louis and all this will be pushing to the east but won't make it through here until around this time tomorrow. so, for tonight a star filled sky, cool and calm, 34 degrees in the suburbs. flip that number for center city with a light and variable

wind. highs tomorrow very similar to today upper 60's to around 70's or even a couple degrees above 70 especially west and south of philadelphia with plenty of sunshine. incredibly warm. at the shore if you're hitting one of the boardwalks temperatures there even in the lower 60's. future tracker at 4 o'clock in the afternoon still a decent amount of clear skies as the sun is about to set at that point and that's when the showers will be approaching those western suburbs with the actual cold front. by 10 o'clock rain overspreads the region, maybe mixing with a little wet snow in the northern part of the lehigh valley and the poconos and by sunday morning, we clear things out, mixture of sun and clouds. still some lingering snow showers in parts of the lehigh valley and the poconos but sunday very winter-like. winds gust between 40, 45 miles an hour creating wind chills in the upper 20's. afternoon wind chills only in the mid 30's. in the poconos could see some accumulation of snow between a coating and an inch. so we have our own issues to

students in montgomery county are raising cancer awareness today at their school. kids at upper merion middle school in king of prussia held a purple spirit day pep rally. it's to educate folks about the symptoms and causes of pancreatic cancer. 53,000 americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year and many of them will die but activists are hoping to double the survival rate by the year 2020. he gets a lot of compliments.

>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with ducis rodgers, meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> ♪ >> it is friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is breaking news from the overbrook section of philadelphia and just within the past minute or so that breaking news has turned into tragic news. an eight-year-old girl was struck down by a hit-and-run driver late this afternoon at 63rd and lansdowne and we have just learned that the little girl has died. "action news" reporter dann cuellar is live at the scene.

dann. >> reporter: that's right jim we just got word a few minutes ago from police unfortunately that the little girl died from her injuries over at children's hospital. meanwhile philadelphia police continue to search for the hit-and-run driver who has yet to be identified tonight. police say it was about 3:16 this afternoon that the eight-year-old little girl was walking home from school with her friends and struck by a man headed south on 63rd street. witnesses say the little girl was thrown about 90 feet from the point of impact. witnesses tell us they heard a loud boom and went outside to see what happened. >> i was in the kitchen. then i heard a bunch of people screaming and hollering so i came outside put something in the trash and then that's when i saw a line of ambulances and people were crying and stuff and then i saw somebody getting in an ambulance and i saw a little book bag so i figured it was a child. >> reporter: police say the driver of a gray or silver nissan altima or maxima failed to stop and render aid and sped off head south
