>> a pleasant good morning to you, 7:00 a.m., saturday, november 19. this morning plans are in place to honor a senior runner known for his bright red shorts he died days before the philadelphia marathon. police say this surveillance picture shows two thieves who have been busy stealing purses across the region. plus a tale of two seasons, the temperatures will plummet in a matter of hours this weekend. outside we go to meteorologist karen rogers in for chris this morning. it will be cold tomorrow. yeah, we're getting ready for big changes here. it's weather whiplash today. let's start off with right now, the national weather service posted this wind advisory that

goes into effect later tonight at 7:00 p.m. and lasts through tomorrow and tomorrow night. we'll see wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. they are going to be the winds of change. so right now we're starting off with temperatures in the 30s in some of the suburbs, it's a chilly start, 36 in allentown. 37 in poconos. 40 in trenton. 35 in millville. 40 in wilmington. 45 degrees right now in center city. let's look at the satellite and radar, bright sunshine out here, we'll have a pretty start to the day with lots of sunshine. you can see the clouds filling in from the west, the powerful front with showers and periods of rain mixing in out to the west. that front is moving in tonight. it's going to be a huge weather changer for us. let's bring in hour by hour, 9:00 a.m., pretty sunshine 46. 11:00 a.m., 53 it's a warm day ahead. 1:00 p.m., 67 degrees well above average. 3:00 p.m., 71. that's the high today. it's still going to be nice and dry at 3:00 p.m. with clouds building in.

5:00 p.m., 61 degrees, the rain arrives so we get showers tonight and tonight and tomorrow get a little snow in the poconos. serious change coming your way. i'll explain it in the seven-day forecast, there's a lot to talk about with the weather, gray, that's coming up in just a moment. >> new for you this morning, a man walking along the boulevard was hit and killed when police say for some ron he stepped into the -- some reason he stepped into the road. this happened at the bustleton and the boulevard in northeast philadelphia. medicine i cans rushed a 4 -- medics rushed a 43-year-old man to the hospital where he was pronounced. the driver stopped at the scene. philadelphia police are looking for a driver who sped off after hitting and killing a girl walking home from school this happened at 63rd and landsdown avenue in the overbrook section. the little girl was thrown 90 feet. she was laying in the street.

>> i saw a book bag, i figured it was a child that was hit boy a car. >> one witness said two men tried to chase after the driver, but lost him. the striking vehicle was described as a gray or silver nissan ultima or maxima. the treanl -- the tragedy has rekindled long-running concerns howfts drivers go in the -- how fast the drivers go in the area. if you see runners at the philadelphia marathon wearing red shorts it's in memory of a long-running athlete. >> reporter: he it was a delaware valley legend, john shultz is a running icon. he was home from choir practice not far from his wilmington home he was hit and killed by a pick up truck on the way. >> he was this light on the trail. >> reporter: that's elaine and ron horn they own a company

possible break in a case of purse snatching across the area. we know a man and woman are in police custody accused of stealing purses in three counties. they are arrested thursday night as they tried to steal a purse in acme in northeast philadelphia. that's according to police. they had been linked to similar crimes in hatfield and paoli. the list of charges include theft and criminal conspiracy. the judge who presided over the jerry sandusky criminal case has removed himself from the appeal. the judge said he stepped away because lawyers from the penn state former football coach questioneds integrity. they cite his role in a december 11 meeting at a hotel before he waived his preliminary hearing. they claim waiving the hearing was a critical mistake by his previous defense team. people in hamilton township

lined up at their municipal building they are upset for delayed utility bills that come as a big surprise. in some cases many have not received notice of the soar bills until they were -- sewer bills until they were told they would be sold at a tax sale. >> it's horrendous, i've owned my home for over a year this is way you treat a homeowner in your town. >> this is the first bill. >> that you're overdue. >> correct. >> some residents got the amount due reduced after talking to officials. a historic bridge in chester county is back open more than a year after crash caused serious damage to it. neighbors were delighted to be driving over the old knox covered bridge on yellow springs road when it reopened to traffic. someone slammed into the

historic bridge in 2015. penndot repaired and they launched a project to shore up a major sewer line. >> this is the best, those of us lucky enough to be living near it, it's a treat and we're glad it's open. >> we're delighted it's been shut down for far too long. i'm glad they rebuilt it and they rebuilt it well. >> the knox covered bridge was ballot in 1865. it is closed to pedestrian. township leaders say the walking trail along valley creek will be opened in time for christmas. it will be a smoother commute to delaware as the diverging diamond interchange opened up today. ddi is unusual because it requires traffic to briefly drive on the opposite side of the road to make uninterrupted left turns. it is a cost-effective method of achieving enhanced traffic flow

sometime after 3:15 p.m. the 8-year-old was walking home from school with friends when she was struck by a driver traveling south on 63rd and landsdown. she was thrown 90 feet from the point of impact. >> she was laying in the street. >> i saw a book bag. >> reporter: witnesses say the driver who was a gray or silver nissan ultima or maximum failed to render aid and sped off. >> somebody ran and got the mother and she came she was hysterical and everything. >> it's like a racetrack. >> reporter: a racetrack? >> that's exactly what it's like. this is all day everyday. >> reporter: police were stopping and ticketing motorists going too fast through here as residents implored motorists to have respect during this tragedy. >> if they in their own

neighborhoods some of their children could fall victim to the same thing. >> reporter: this morning police are making an intensive effort to locate the driver and car involved in the fatal hit hit-and-run. the car will have significant front end damage. anyone with information call police. dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." >> a woman is dead after her car collided with a tractor-trailer. it happened in south jersey overnight. police say the woman's car slammed into the back of the parked big rig on the southbound side of 295 in cherry hill at 2:30 a.m. the tractor-trailer was sitting on the shoulder at the time of the incident. it took rescue crews nearly a half-hour to free the woman from the wreckage. she was rushed to cooper university hospital where she died from her injuries. a chimney is likely the source of a fire that destroyed a home in washington township. flames met firefighters responding to corvis court at

11:00 p.m. two people were inside, they managed to escape. our cameras were rolling as flames were seen coming from a second floor window in delaware county. chopper 6 hd was above the two-alarm fire on the two thousand block of west second street. two adjoining homes were damaged. nobody was hurt. a philadelphia police officer is recovering after being shot several times. the officer was hit by bullets while shielding his 2-year-old son from gunfire. officer rahmir are a was off duty at the time when there was a gun battle where he and his son were standing on the 1100 block of parish street in north philadelphia. >> he was caught in the crossfire and covered his son as any father would do. he was struck at least one time in the thumb. he did take fragments to both

legs as well as buttocks. >> reporter: police commissioner richard ross said the officer was able to get his toddler son to safety at a nearby relative's home. the shooter has not been arrested. in hamilton township mercer county, a woman accidentally shot and killed her boyfriend when he snuck into her home to surprise her. family members of the say she thought he was an intruder. he was a father of four and grandfather of four. police say the woman has a proper gun permit and not facing any charges in the tragic case of mistaken identity. there's updated information to tell you about this morning, members of the septa largest union have overwhelmingly ratified the new contract. five thousand members of

from our delaware newsroom, the university of delaware is asking the state for more money. the school requested a small increase from the operating budget from lawmakers to fund scholarships for students. they are seeking millions of dollars for capital expenditures including $60 million for a science buildings. happening today, the boy scouts will be going door to door to collect food donations. you remember they dropped off nearly a million bags last saturday. if you received a bag fill it with non-perishable food items and leave it outside the door, because the scouts will come around and collect them later today. the effort is in collaboration with the dunkin' donuts holiday food drive. a fiery soul singer has died. we have details on the death of sharon jones. the world health
