in the news crews fight a wild fire. but we begin with new developments after a dangerous attack in sent steer. a man is treated for injuries after opening up a package containing an explosive device left at his home. katherine scott is live on pine street where an entire city block remains shut down. >> reporter: sara, investigators have ruled out terrorism here, they believe it was an attack targeted at the victim but they don't know what the motive was. pine street between 18th and 19th remains closed off. the victim is 60 years old and we are told he say caterer. and in stable condition and police are able to speak with him and his partner.

>> i came a half meter up out of the bed. >> kenneth visiting center city from australia heard it from a bed and breakfast on pine street. police told him to evacuate. >> i was waiting to clarify with what the situation was. >> around 4:00 a.m., a 60-year-old man opened a manilla envelope in his kitchen. instead a device was inside and opening the package triggered the blast and sustained injuries to his hands, chest and face. >> we. >> reporter: concerned about other devices, but nothing came up. >> and the bomb squad and postal inspectors and police and fire were on the scene. people were evacuated from nearby apartments and buildings and people were stunned when they woke up. >> bright lights that is weird

for 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning. investigators are not sure if it was an intentional act. the package was placed there not sent. >> we don't believe it came through u.s. mail. they think the bar code was old and would not have gone through u.s. mail. >> reporter: and back here live on pine street. which remains closed at 18th and 19th, police are going door-to-door to interview neighbors and looking for surveillance footage. the motive remains under investigation and the atf has a press conference scheduled for this afternoon, we hope to learn more then. >> thank you. now to breaking news a philadelphia police officer is under arrest for the shooting of his son. dorian young surrendered this morning. the incident happened at the

home in east philadelphia. that he and his 19-year-old son got into an argument, he shot him hitting him in the back and shoe. young faces multiple charges, including attempted murder. he will be suspended today with the intent to dismiss in 30 days. more details on the school bus crash that killed five children in chattanooga, tennessee. police believe he was traveling at a high rate of speed on a windy road. >> the bus filled with more than 30 elementary school students ran off the road and slammed into trees. >> the bus is flipped over and occupied with children. >> the yellow bus was shown wrapped around a tree. >> we heard the crash and went out side to look and the bus turned over and apparently hit a

house across the street. >> they were escaping through the roof hatch. >> as emergency crews struggled to free the children worried about parents waited to hear what happened to their kids. craig harris's daughter, a stepson and niece were on the bus and they were okay. >> i had to sit down and regain my composure and calm my wife down and other family members affected by this. it's something i never want to face again. >> five children died at the scene, one boy and four girls, three of them fourth graders and several still in the hospital some in serious condition. residents stood in long lines to donate blood. they are looking at speed as the reason of the crash. they have charged the bus driver with vehicular homicide. >> we have issued a search

warrant for his blood and we'll have an investigation to see if there was outside influences. >> they will review black box data and video from the bus to figure out exactly what happened. >> firefighters are battling a blaze that brokeout overnight in new jersey's wharton state forest. it burned 200 acres off 206 in waterford township. the fire is not threatening homes or businesses, it's about 80% contained. crews responding to the fire are facing strong winds and it's still protectiony cold out there today. let get a first check of your accuweather forecast with david murphy. >> the winds from yesterday have eased a little bit but still part of the package today and you get a sense of that looking at the snow off the great lakes. it's similar to yesterday

yesterday we had 40 miles per hour wind gusts and today the wind is not as strong. but we'll get wind gusts up over 30 miles per hour. and still a blustery day similar to yesterday. and will start to get better in that regard tomorrow. scattered wind gusts some up to 30 miles per hour and some near philadelphia. the they are kind of popping up here and there just about everywhere across the region. at times gusts up over 30 miles per hour for the rest of afternoon. 46 degrees in philadelphia. we are still chilly, 42 in allentown and 44 in reading and wilmington and 45 in millville. with the strong wind blowing your windchills are making it feel like the 30s even in spots where the temperatures have pushed up into the mid-40s. dress appropriately, maybe coats and a couple of layer. this afternoon's high 48 degrees, over the next couple of days, we will gradually be improving back up to that normal high, i think we'll be there by

meteorologist, david murphy, is here now time for a check of the accuweather forecast. >> it's chilly out there. my hands are still -- stormtracker 6 live double scan right now and we are looking at dry conditions across the region. but as we take a look outside we still have a chilly one out there. a beautiful picture of the ben franklin bridge live from sky 6 hd, and clouds out there but a fair amount of sunshine we'll stay sunny with patchy clouds the rest of the way.

temperatures 46 degrees it doesn't sound all that bad but factor in a wind from the west at 17 occasionally gusting into the upper 20s and 30s at time. it's chilly out there with windchills in the 30s and you will want to dress appropriately as you head outside this afternoon. 44 in reading and 46 in wilmington and 45 in millville and 43 in cape may, 41 in trenton and again all of these places with windchills in the 30s with the strong occasionally blustery wind. you see clouds forming over parts of the region and there are holes in the clouds. and in most cases you squeeze out mostly sunny skies or some patchy clouds. and windy and killy in the lehigh valley with a high of 45, and down the shore high of 48 degrees and sun mixing with clouds and less cloud could have the farther south you go. and pretty chilly out there with the wind still blustery.

and wind and sun with clouds and high of 48 and winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour. we don't have a wind advisory today. but it's windy and debris blowing around on roadways. the evening commute. 46 at 4:00 and sliding to 44 by 5:00 and 42 by 6:00 and 40 by 7:00 and we dip into the 30s as soon as about 7:30 tonight. and then overnight tonight, we expect to go down to the freezing mark in philadelphia. some rural suburbs get down to 25, so cold overnight but the good part of this is that winds will die down and we'll probably be in the single digits most of the time overnight. and high pressure scoot as way from us and a front from the west and sun gives way to clouds and winds will be lighter thanks to the proximity of the high pressure center, a high of 49 degrees, there is a little more. an issue in some of our northern

suburbs. future tracker 6 shows us a run of precipitation up to the poconos and some of it gets into the lehigh valley and reading and bucks and montgomery county, if it does fall and it's cold enough at the surface wet stuff could form into icy patches and the precipitation is long gone by morning, maybe if you drive around early thursday morning, you see something wet on the roadways, slow down it may be frozen. 48 is the high today and windy and not as winnie tomorrow and 49 and thanksgiving day cloudy with a high of 52 and there is a chance of a spotty sprinkle or shower around. and parts may not see rain at all. but it will be cloudy and somewhat cool. 43 for the start of the parade and 50 at the end. dry mainly this weekend too. >> an improving forecast thank you. still ahead in our next half our of "action news" at 12:30.
