"action news" delaware valley's leading news program. with rick williams, sara bloomquist, and meteorologist, david murphy. there he is. thanks to our friends at dunkin' donuts eight reindeers are pulling santa's sleigh aloof the parkway. they are the highlight of the parade every year. >> the holiday season is underway. santa and mrs. claus just took their seats at the top of the art museum steps. this wrapped up another 6 abc dunkin donuts thanksgiving day parade. good afternoon and happy thanksgiving. rick will be along in a moment.

the big story is the 97th annual 6 abc dunkin donuts thanksgiving day parade. the parade just came to a conclusion right here on 6 abc and yet again it was a wonderful show. ♪ ♪ >> the parade stepped off bright and early with a big celebration and this huge opening production. the 6 abc dunkin donuts thanksgiving day parade is the oldest in the entire nation it features massive floats and giant balloons and performances from celebrities and local choirs and dance groups and marching bands and so much more. this ends right in front of the art museum. ♪ ♪ the pennsbury high school trumpets kicked things of with this triumphant performance. they were joined by the westchester color flag team.

this ice sculpture is the first for the 6 abc dunkin donuts thanksgiving day parade sculpture says that it took more than 80 hours to create in work of art called fear no ice. fortunately the weather stayed just cool enough to keep it from melting. these are the fantastic dancers, more than 300 tap dancers performed in the parade and this was called fire under my feet. the parade was packed it all kinds of performances and floats and so much more and our own rick williams, and cecily tynan enjoyed a front row seat to all the fun they are joining us now from eakins oval with a recap of the festivities. great job guys, it looks like so much fun. >> thank you, it was fun. 97th year of the parade and cecily has been here every year. the weather held up and just seeing all the families coming

down to the parkway to have a wonderful time. >> it went by quickly. lets bring everyone back and do it again. we had great performancers and spectacular balloons and floats. 17 balloons we had down the parkway, tasmanian devil he looks ferocious but he was here having a good time. 18 floats and princesses. and one of the youngest performers on the float as well and he did a fantastic job as well. disney princesses and princes there as well all dressed up and the little girl as long the route they loved the princesses. >> and of course the music, i think what captivated the audience. a wonderful tribute to prince.

balloons, the 6 abc dunkin donuts thanksgiving day parade made its way up ben franklin parkway for yet another year. a thankiving feast for the eyes and ears. >> it's family tradition and great, we bring the kids they love it. >> this is my very first time my daughter is actually in the parade. >> there was plenty to cheer about. even the terrifying t-rex treated the crowd to a spin. >> as a child my dad would bring us down and my mom would stay home and cook dinner and when we came home the helpfuls had helped her decorate the house. >> it was the first year the four brothers were not ale to be here. for decades the gathering has grown. now more than 60 family and friends come to celebrate. >> we started with my niece stacey when she was 12 years old and we were holding her on our shoulders and then as the kids

started to grow, we came with scaffolding and ladders and then it progressed. >> holiday cheer and family and friends, traditions of old and some in the making. >> it's awesome every year we watch it on tv but now we are actually watching and we are on tv. >> reporter: that they with. and back here live spectators and performers are heading back to spend the holiday with their family. another year and another success on the parkway. and we want to wish everyone at home a happy and safe thanksgiving. >> thank you. and happy thanksgiving to you as well. we asked you to bring doe faces of canned goods and you answered that call. the boy scouts collected them along the parade route. turning to accuweather this noon, it's a little bit cloudy

but mostly dry for this thanksgiving and all the parade watchers, sky 6 hd taking a live look at the commodore barry bridge in chester. it's a little bit dreary outside. if you head out to grandma's house for the holiday meal you could be seeing showers. lets head over to the "action news" big board with meteorologist, david murphy, has a look at your forecast. >> prior to the parade we saw showers developing to the west and they came through during the parade and most of them in philadelphia were fairly light and nuisance shower activity and we have this pushing out of northeast philadelphia through southern buck county and up into mercer county, new jersey. and a little bit down to the south and in some cases highlighted in shades of green and yellow, that is steadier rain, this pushes through quick and you only have to deal with that for five or ten minutes in those cases. we have lots of clouds and the rest of the day is mostly cloudy and additional rain in west

virginia that could make its way across and perhaps produce a light shower in the afternoon or this evening. we are not totally out of the woods but the rest of the day a spotty or two. 58 in wilmington and 48 in trenton and 43 in allentown and down the shore, milder mid to low 50s from cape may all the way up to atlantic city. the winds are not all that strong, the balloons had no problem flying today only a 3 miles per hour wind as it comes off the south from the ocean. places like sea isle city and dover, delaware. here is what to expect this afternoon. 3:00 your high of 54 degrees, and if are you getting ready to get back in the car and head back home at 7:00. 47 degrees and probably down to the mid-40s by 9:00 tonight. we are allowing for the spotty shower. tomorrow is the big day a lot of shoppers heading out there.

buren road and the american red cross is assisting some of the victims. officials say that the heater likely malfunctioned sparking the flames. a washington state couple took down the thief by using a bottle of sparkling cider. staidy and gerald elis says she pulled into their driveway and saw a man rifling through their other car. stacey grabbed a bottle of sparkling cider and her husband chased the suspect. >> he was let me go ma'am, i didn't take much. stacey says the man pulled out a gun and she hit him on the head with a bottle of cider. this could help buy a few gifts this holiday season, this saturday's power ball jackpot jumped to a whopping $403

and feast today. we meet a mt. airy woman that is dedicated to feeding those in need. ali gorman has the story in art of aging. >> reporter: every week the line at marlene's kitchen of love stretches down the block. >> we turn no one away. if you come up at the line at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning. >> everyone will have something on their table come thanksgiving, the rain snow and hail we are out there giving out food. people still have to eat. >> marlene started kitchen of love in 1996 inspired by her father who handed out baskets of food during thanksgiving and christmas. >> i said when i get big i'll do the same thing. >> at age 70 she does that and more serving up to 700 people every week. >> they are grandparents taking care of grandchildren. and they are seniors, the seniors don't know whether to

>> it has snowed in the past. >> we said that on the broadcast, we have worse days in the 20s but stormtracker 6 live double scan showing a little bit of precipitation trying to clear the region and it's mostly to the east of philadelphia and if we go in closer you can see that some of this is now pushed all the way into trenton. the stuff by willow grove is just ground clutter and a lot of this is lighter shades of green is just a drizzle drop on your windshie windshield. but it doesn't take long to get through. down south steadier precipitation here and there in cape may county. yellow in tuckahoe and mays landing, but this only takes a little bit. maybe three, four or five mines to pass any spot. sea isle city you are about to get a higher cell and it looks like the sun is trying to break through here in cape may on the

beach. temperatures improved in philadelphia. winds are light north north east at 3 miles per hour at this hour. and temperatures across the region, cooler up north, 43 in allentown and 44 in reading and milder down south, 55 in millville and dover and 53 at cape may at this hour. the first batch of rain is coming through and most of it light and steadier, it's going through pretty quick. a lot of clouds behind that with brightening here and there. and additional shower activity coming out of west virginia that may pop through later on, as you see on future tracker 6, it's pretty light and spotty be scattered, that is the 5:00 afternoon view later in the evening a sprinkle on the windshield for your holiday gathering, a spotty shower can't be ruled out. down the shore it's the same story, clouds and a break here or there and dry most of the time and a high of 56. in philadelphia we'll go for a high of 54 this afternoon lots
