good morning to you at 6:00, saturday, november 26th. stories we're following right now on action news, breaking news, former cuban president fidel castro has died. father of the communist island nation. back here at home, two children injured when their delaware home goes up in flames. this happened overnight. a south jersey police officer is injured in a head-on crash, those stories and more just a moment. we turn our attention to meteorologist chris sowers and the forecast. i know you're struggling with your voice. >> it's mild. it was fine a second ago. there you go again. kind of battling today. but as we get you outside, what you'll notice this morning is temperatures are fairly mild. we're already in the 40's in the normal high for this time of year is about 52. so not too bad, especially considering the time of year and it's quiet out there. not much of a breeze. we are expecting the breezes to

pick up as the day wears on. right now, it's fairly tranquil. 38 in allentown, philadelphia, checking in at 45. take a look at cape may, not too bad, 48 degrees. atlantic city at the airport 47. now, satellite 6 along with action radar are noticing a couple of areas of moisture, if you're heading up to the poconos, there could be wet weather maybe rainy mixed with snow and especially farther to the north, upstate new york and new england there could be rain and snow showers, this coastal low will stay out to sea. we'll see a lot of clouds between the two systems but we'll stay precipitation-free this afternoon. so here's the forecast for today. we're going to call it partly sunny, breezy, and temperatures climbing out of the 40's, slowly and eventually into the 50's. 3:00, 52. by 5:00 back down to 49, forecast in the high of 53. tomorrow looking good as well. pattern unsettled next week. with rain and i'll have the

details when i come back in about ten minutes. now back to that breaking news, fidel castro, the long-time communist leader of cuba died, that announcement came from raul castro with a shaking voice, he told people of cuba his older brother died at 10:30 last night, and ended the announcement by shouting the rely allusionnary slogan, always, fidel castro had led the country half century and nearly led america to a nuclear war in 1962. look at this here, this is the scene in miami overnight. celebration in the streets after word began to spread about the death of fidel castro. fidel castro had been ill in health many years now. he was 90 years old. good morning america weekend will have much more on the death of fidel castro plus a look back at his life and rule as the president of cuba. you can catch good morning america at 8:00 following action

news. the holiday shopping frenzy belongs to small business owner, it is small business saturday and the focus is on those mom and pop shops. many local stores will be offering discounts. the marketing known as small business saturday seven years ago to give them a boost. small business saturday follows black friday. shoppers hit local malls early for those deep discounts. at cherry hill. and'tis the season for crowded parking lots. patients with a virtue for those who arrived late at the concordville mall in delaware yesterday. but for some this busy shopping day is an annual family tradition, which require as whole lot of stamp ma >> we're shopping together. my niece is still in there.

ready to go strong in center city, the mild temperatures brought lots of people outside. the streets were crowded with shoppers looking for the best deal. the philly fanatic spend time. a computer glitch caused problems on black friday, they were send to another mace's web page. they were then given a countdown clock letting them know when they can return to the main macy's site. when they tried to get backing they were told it was down for routine maintenance. macy's is trying to figure out exactly what happened. 6:04. new castle county delaware. two children in the hospital after a house fire. the action cam at that scene. looks. the unit block of bradley road when firefighters got there, shortly after 12:45 this morning, they found this home just like this, engulfed in flames. four people inside, a man, a woman and their two children thankfully got out safely. the adults are ok but the

children were taken to christiana hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, no word about their conditions, took about an hour to get this fire under control. investigators are working to determine exactly what caused the fire. new this morning, a driver heading the wrong way on route 70 in cherry hill new jersey ran head-on into a police cruiser. the action cam at that scene, route 70 near kingston drive around 1:45 this morning, that woman behind the wheel, for some reason, was traveling east in the westbound lane, when she slammed right into that patrol car. the woman ended up trapped inside the vehicle. firefighters freed her and took her to cooper university hospital where we're told she's in stable condition. officers being examined at the hospital and is expected to be released soon. of course, the woman faces several charges. police trying to figure out what caused an armored car to flip on to its side at the base of the platt bridge.

less. it comes shortly after two firefighters lost their lives battling a fire. a montgomery county native had a chance to meet the man whose live that he saved in a dramatic fashion. jim lee got his start. pulled off a rare rescue of an elderly man in a neighbor in new york's upper east side. it's considered a last resort. lease scaled that burning building, grabbed 81-year-old jim duffy through a window, and both then lowered to the ground. it was at that moment that the rope snapped. >> thank god, it was miracle. because i called eight miracle on 93rd. >> that's a good catch phrase. >> firefighters one person actually died in that fire. 15 others were hurt, including 11 firefighters. as for duffy, still in a rehab facility but once he's released.

fragments. let's get you outside and we'll start you with a live sky 6 taking a look at the camden waterfront and it's quiet out there this morning, we have clouds overhead, we also have mild temperatures. and that's, that's the big story this morning. this time of year, obviously could be much, much cooler but, we'll take the 40's while we can get them. 45 in philadelphia. due point 35, falling off from 30.14 inches, winds out of the northwest at nine miles per hour and ocean temperature at 49's we're seeing a lot of 40's across south jersey including the i95 corridor, reading, allentown, both checking in at 38. philadelphia, showing 45. then those shore points are pretty close to 50 already. cape may 48. atlantic city 47. and beach haven end 46 degrees. now, your satellite 6 along with action radar and as i had been explaining, we have a couple of areas of moisture, one off the

coast of the virginia capes. if you look towards the right hand part of your screen and another batch of moisture kind of in align from west to east to north from buffalo to bing tam. neither one of these areas of moisture are heading this way, both pulling away towards it's east northeast about 15 to 20 miles per hour. the only downfall, we're not going to see the rainy but we will see clouds. if you're traveling out towards the west later in the weekend, later this afternoon, or tomorrow, everything looks pretty quiet right now, but there's a storm that will jump the rockies overnight tonight. it will hit the central plains and this area through here will break out into showers and thunderstorms. if your traveling out to the midwest, you may want to check ahead with your carrier. back home here, in the philadelphia area looks ok, partly sunny, breezy, 54 degrees for philadelphia. millville, 54. allentown 50, trenton, 53. and cape may, 53 degrees.

we need to get to. happening in the roxboro section of philadelphia. here's what we know, police say there is man, an unidentified man who has fired some shots in the neighborhood. the neighborhood is happening it's along river road there. this man is being -- he's locked up inside his house right now. fired shots in that area. police told residents there to shelter in place until they can speak to this man. hopefully he will come out. so far no, reports of any injuries but again this happening in the roxboro section of philadelphia there along river road. this man randomly started shooting about 5:30 this morning, police called to the scene, set up a staging area, swat teams are there. we're going to track this all morning long as information comes in. again, if you're just joining us, breaking news coming from the roxboro section of philadelphia at about 5:30 this morning, a man randomly starts

shooting. police asking possibly to smelt in place until they can hopefully diffuse the situation, as we get more information, we'll bring that right to you. there's more breaking news to tell you about this morning. form early cuban president fidel castro has died. that news came early this morning from his brother and currently cuban president raul castro. there have been celebrations in the streets of miami after word spread of fidel castro's death. abc's lona joins us with mr. deals. >> good morning, gray, raul castro announced his brother's death on cuban television. what we'll follow now nine days of public mourning. but in miami, the scene is quite different. >> this is the scene from miami's little havana. two hours after his death. he was born august 13th, 1926 in

cuba. as child, he was advocated at private catholic schools and studied law. became an advocate for the poor. went on to rule cuba more than 40 years >> i feel honored being a communist. >> reporter: in 1960, castro joined with the soviet union, the u.s. retaliated by breaking set up a diplomatic relations. if 1961, president jfk approved a cia invasion force of 1300 cuban he can say cycles who went assure on the bay of pigs. he had allowed to the soviets to put nuclear miss ills in cuba >> vessels moved and in the soviets backed down in exchange for a pledge that america would not attack cuba.

small business saturday began seven years ago, to help give small retailers a boost. you can once again shop with ease today and every saturday through the holiday season in the city of philadelphia. the parking authority is offering free meter parking city-wide after 11:00 a.m. on saturday, six garages in center city will charge a flat $8 fee during select hours on the weekend. black friday, of course is the traditional and unofficial start to the holiday shopping season, malls, of course, packed with customers and consumers hoping for big deals that stretch the hard earned dollar. retailers are hoping people are in the mood to spend money. shoppers at the cherry hill mall left with bags fall of items, as you see there. all thanks to a holiday deals for crowded. easily maneuverible for those who decide to get out in delaware, it was difficult to find an open space in the parking lot.

chaos have become part of thanksgiving tradition >> we do it every black friday. start early in the morning, we've been here since 7:00. we go every and single year. you can get your favorite piece of clothing for like 50% off. >> reporter: checking off their list of who's been naughty or nice >> there were good deals, stuff for me. stuff for family. >> reporter: if the crowds here at the mall are any kind of an indication, it is going to be a very merry christmas for many residents and retailers in our area. i'm wendy saltsman channel 6 action news a man is in critical condition after a shoot-out with philadelphia police. investigators say two officer on patrol in port richmond filed a suspect, put a handgun into his waistband. it happened around 10:30 last night. they say they tried to stop him along the 1900 block of clementine but say that man took off running. officers followed him and some time during that chase, they say he started shooting at them. >> the male turns. pulls that handgun.

and fires at the officers. the officers returned fire. which point the male continues to flee on foot. >> we're told this came to an end on the 2900 block of amber street. another group of five officers responding to the scene shot the man. he was rushed to temple university hospital we're told that he was transported in critical condition. an innocent bystander was also hurt in this gunfire. she was treated for a bullet injury to her leg. this morning police internal affairs is investigating that he is case. this morning, one person in custody after a serious crash involving a police car in southwest philadelphia. channel 6 over that scene late last night. two cars an police suv collided. it happened on i95 at the entrance to the platt bridge. no police officers are hurt and so far there's no information about charges. from our delaware newsroom this morning, two men are in

jail after their car crashed into a dart bus during the police chase. action cam at that scene. 2nd and monroe in wilmington. he ran the bus around 11:00 as the bus was attempting to enter a dart garage. we're told the suspects got out of to car and made a run for it. police caught them. the bus driver was taken to christiana hospital to be treated. investigators not said why police were pursuing the car. 6:40. president-elect trump spent his black friday feeling mover those top administration positions. he's elected donald mcgayan as white house counsel, that is a critical position. as trump looks to separate duties from the global empire that bear his name. congressional democrats made at least ten requests to review his potential conflicts of interest. casey mcfarland has been name as national security works she's a

not too bad. we do have a couple of rain showers in the higher elevation, mount pocono, couple of rain drops, maybe a few flakes of snow mixed in but this is just passing shower. and it shouldn't last for any longer many a half hour. that's about it. again this is the big story, temperatures mild, philadelphia 45, millville, checking in at 46. cape may, 48. and dover, not too bad. 45 degrees. satellite 6 along with action radar all of this moisture all of the grain and you're seeing white up there towards the top. all of that passing on by to the northeast will not be affecting the delaware and the lehigh valleys. now, as we go a little bit wider, what's going to happen here over the next couple of days. is one system exits the coast, that will pull away. and there's another storm that will kind of jump the rockies, it will hit front range and make a b line. as it does so, it will start to

gather strength. a lot of moisture from the gulf of mexico and will start to slowly march into the delaware and lehigh valleys and bring much needed rain i want. rain chances next week, looks leak today and tomorrow we're in the clearly monday looks ok. tuesday, wednesday and thursday, we could get a good soaking. some of the latest forecast guided suggests anywhere from one and a half to three inches of rain. in philadelphia at this time is more than five inches in the deficit. we definitely could use the wet weather. looks like we'll get some. partly sunny, breezy, 53 is the forecast at high. and you can see lots of sunshine throughout the day mixed with clouds. 1:0050, by 3:00, 52 and then by 5:00, 49. and overnight tonight, we'll go partly cloudy, skies it's going to get a lot colder we're in the 40's right now. same time tomorrow we'll be down into the 30's. significantly colder. the exclusive accu weather seven-day forecast. 53 today, lots of sunshine for tomorrow. cooler day, high of 50.
