of folks heading home tomorrow. we also have much needed rain on the way later next week. coming up in about ten minutes. greg? >> thank you. your time now, 7:02. breaks news we've been following, updated information, information on roxboro situation. a tense situation where a man who has been firing shots at police has now led septa to halt the norristown manayunk line due to rider safety as police investigate. police are asking residents along river road to shelter in place in their homes. you're looking at new video we're just getting into our newsroom. those information in that area being asked to she would in place as police officers deal with man who fired shots at officers from a home. we know that a swat unit is there at the scene. investigators say that they responded at about 5:30 this morning of a man firing a gun.

when they got to the scene, they say the man was armed with a rifle. fired several shots at the officers. a woman had to be rescued from a nearby home. so far, thankfully no reports of any injuries but we'll continue to monitor the situation. stick with action news and 6 abc.com for the latest updates. more breaking news from cuba, fidel castro, the long-time communist leader of cuba died. that came early this morning from his brother, president raul castro. with a shaking voice he told the people that his older brother had died at 10:30 and ended the announcement by shouting the revolution slogan for victory always. fidel castro led the country a half century and nearly led america to a nuclear war in 1962 and look at this scene happening in miami overnight. there were celebrations in the streets after word began to spread about the death of fidel

the mall. patience was a virtue for those who arrived late at the concord mall in delaware. but the busy shopping day is an annual family tradition >> we're shopping together, my niece is still in there. we're having a ball. we've been up you all night. still ready to go strong. >> got to be strong if you're out there with the crowds. in center city, the mild temperatures brought lots of people outside. the streets were crowded with shoppers looking to get a great deal. the philly fantastic spent time checking gifts off of his lift. a computer glitch caused problems for shoppers who visited macy's web on black friday. people reported being sent to another macy's westbound page when they tried to buy on line, they were then given a countdown clock letting them know had they could return to the main site. they say when they tried to get back on cuba's site. it was down for routine

maintenance. macy's working hard to figure out what happened. new information from new castle delaware. two children in the hospital after a house neighbor. look at this scene, the action cam at the unit block of bradley road. when firefighters got there shortly after 12:45 this morning, they tell us they found that moment engulfed if flames, as you can clearly see. the four people inside, man, woman and two children manage to escape. the adults are ok but the children were taken to christiana hospital. no word on the conditions. we do know it took about an hour to get the fire under control. investigators right now working to determine what caused the fire. new this morning, the driver heading the wrong way on route 70 in cherry hill, new jersey, runs head-on into a police cruiser. the action cam also at that scene near kingston drive around 1:45, the woman behind the wheel

for some reason was traveling east in the westbound lane when she slammed into the patrol car. the woman ended up trapped inside the vehicle. firefighters freed her and took her to cooper university hospital. we're told she is in stable condition. that officer is being examined at the hospital and expected to be released soon. of course, that woman is facing several charges. police trying to figure out what caused an armored car to flip on to its side at the base of the platt bridge. you see it there. channel 6 over the scene last night. thankfully no reports of injuries. the accident caused traffic problems for more than an hour in that area. evesham township police officers this morning mourning the loss of one of their best friends, elias, a retired k9, he died thursday from a sudden illness, he had served eight years on the police force before retiring it in 2014. he will especially be missed by his handler, detective richard

hernandez and his family who cared for him. 7:07 your time. west philadelphia neighborhood turned in a shooting gallery when someone opened fire. this morning police are looking for the suspect. jeffr co with the details. >> reporter: this was the scene at westminster and fallon around 7:30 p.m. nearly two dozen bullets were fired. some hit gutters awnings and windows, police say someone was likely targeted but at this point, there's no known victim. eight homes in all were hit including daniel bran im's. he was home watching football with his wife >> the bullet came through the window and shattered. me and and my old lady hit the floor, laid there two minutes. then i checked around the house make sure everybody was all right. >> reporter: police are not saying much about a motive or a suspect.

however, on this thanksgiving weekend, there are some folks who are once again counting their blessings. in powelton, jeff cher co channel 6. several firefighters and families rallied for a fourth straight day. protesting the temporary closure of the engine company to save overtime money. firefighters say closing down stations puts their safety and the safety of the public in jeopardy because they're forced to do more with less. the shutdown comes two months after two wilmington firefighters lost their lives battling a row home fire. it is 7:09. santa made an early visit to children who we know have been really nice this year. he made a stop at the ronald mcdonald house here in camden to get out early christmas gifts and to hear what else those kids may want. ronald mcdonald house provides a home away from home for families of seriously ill children being treated at a local hospital. this celebration marked the

official white house christmas tree arrived. first lady michelle obama received a 19-foot beach fir from wisconsin yesterday of the nice tree. it arrived on horse drawn carriage. joining her were the first dog, beau and her two young nephews. she jokingly called them her replacement kids because her daughters were asleep. >> that is a big tree. >> talk about the forecast. no snow. >> yeah. >> at least not yet. but temperatures will be getting cooler. not this woke. but the following week as we do a pattern change for the delaware and lehigh valleys. we're talking mild temperatures, most numbers in the 40's. with high pressure in control. even though you may see a lot of clouds upstairs, we're not

looking at rain. at least in the foreseeable future unless you're in the poconos and we do have rain showers this morning mixed with snowflakes. there's mount pocono, lake harmony. this is almost out of our viewing area, there's the wills bar scranton area. a couple of brief showers passing through from west to east across the poconos and places like scranton and you get into newtown and eddy ton. 43 in philadelphia, millville 44, dover checking in at 44, cape may 48, atlantic city 46, and beach haven 45. satellite and radar showing showers up here to the north but all of this is staying to the north. there's a coastal storm off the virginia capes, that's going to pass on by to the east and not really impact us over the next couple days. what will happen as we get into next week. let's say for second you're traveling today, maybe you're traveling tomorrow. most of the country looks ok.

but then by the time we get into monday, we're going to get an area of low pressure jump the rockies and hit front range. it will make a b line towards the great lakes states. it's going to sit and spin and we'll get these smaller areas of low pressure wrapping around it like a pin wheel. that means the pattern gets unsettled tuesday, wednesday and thursday, because we'll see a series of these wrap around the center of that storm. much needed rain appears to be on the way next week. here's the forecast for the weekend. mostly cloudy skies, maybe a left over morning shower for the poconos into the first part of the afternoon. really, that's about it. and those clouds begin to thin out later. temperatures in the 50's today. 54 in philadelphia. partly sunny and breezy, millville 54. allentown 50. and then 30's overnight tonight. 32 in allentown, thorough in reading. and 38 for philadelphia. the exclusive accu weather

. following breaking news. a barricade situation on river road in roxboro caused the suspension of septa's manayunk norristown line. we have an action news crew on that scene. we'll bring you the information. the eagles are gearing up for monday night football but may be plagued with injuries, jeff skversky has the details. >> reporter: nelson agholor says he doesn't know whether or not he'll be benched monday against greenbay. coach doug pederson has yet to make a decision. but he's telling them to prepare as if you'll play. he says he will not plead his case to the coach.

following for you from the roxboro section of philadelphia. a man continues to hopefully at bay there after he fired several shots at about how fars two hours ago. this is a tense situation, this is led septa to halt the norristown manayunk line for rider safety. police have also shutdown the schuylkill river trail to keep runners and bikers out of danger. we know philadelphia police have also asked police along river road to shelter in place, this is for their own safety as officers try diffuse the situation. here's what we know. police received the 911 call of man firing shots randomly there in this neighborhood when they got to the scene, they encountered that man with a rifle, who fired several shots at them. police, they had to rescue a woman from a nearby home. get her to safety. no reports of injury. the man is armed.

stay with action news and 6 abc as we get the latest following break news coming in from cuba, the former president fidel castro has died. that news came early this morning from his brother and current cuban president raul castro. abc's join us us live with the latest information on the death of fidel castro and how is the world responding to this? >> reporter: good morning, we've already heard statements, from president putin of russia. we haven't heard anything yet from president-elect trump or president obama. however, we do see that there's a very different scene unfolding in miami than in cuba. this is the scene from miami little havana. few hours after announcement of fidel castro's death at 90. born on august 13th, 1926 in oriented prove vice cuba as a child he was advocated at

handgun. and fires at the officers. the officers return fire. at which point, the male continues to flee on foot. >> we're told this came to an end a few blocks away on the 2900 block of amber. another group of five officers responding to the scene shot that man. he was rushed to temple university hospital in critical condition. we're also told an innocent bystander was hurt in the gunfire. she was treated for a bullet injury to her leg. this morning, police internal affairs is investigating this case. also this morning, one person is in custody after a serious crash involving a police car in southwest philadelphia. channel 6 on that scene late last night shortly after the two cars and a police suv collided. the crash happened on i95 at the entrance to the platt bridge. no police officers were hurt. so far, there was no word about any charges. from our delaware newsroom.

two men in jail after the car crashed into a dart bus during the police chase. the action cam was to at the scene, 2nd and monroe street in wilmington. employees say the speeding car ran the bus at about 11:00 last night. as that bus was attempting to enter a dart garage after the crash. police say it suspect got on the car and made a run for it but they were quickly arrested. bus driver was taken to christiana hospital to be treated. investigators have not said why they were pursuing the car. still ahead on action news, the force is coming. we have details when you can start buying tickets to the much anticipated film road one. clean-up begins in costa rica after a hurricane hits that island. and chris sowers will have your exclusive seven-day forecast. action news saturday morning will continue in just a bit.

. it was not a shining moment last night for the cruise ship american star. the ship got wedged under the main street bridge if jacksonville florida. attempting to along the south bank of the river when it ended up drifting right towards the bridge. almost took three hours to free the ship. the boat was not damaged but a beam on the bridge was dented and inspector is examining that to determine if it safe for

here in philadelphia. and philadelphia is right about there. so we're get an area of low pressure coming off the rockies and it will sit over the great lakes and it will just spin and spin and spin, and every time it spins, it's going to pick up moisture down here and push it our way. tuesday, wednesday and thursday, spins again, more moisture comes up the coast wednesday, spins again. more moisture, comes off the coast and it's going to be a repetitive pattern for us as we get into the middle of next week, you can see the rainfall chances, today were dry, tomorrow we're dry. monday looks good. tuesday, wednesday and thursday, 70, 80, 70. it's going to be a little wet by mid week. it is needed about five inches in the deficit now. 53 degrees, partly sunny breezy today for sunday, lots of sunshine, breezy, 50. so the weekend looks good. monday, increasing clouds but we're dry 54. then here comes the wet weather tuesday, wednesday, thursday, periods of rain, temperatures
