we have a vehicle that struck several pedestrians. >> reporter: in less than a minute the first responding officer is on the scene soon after police and fire swarmed the ohio state university campus at first rushing to the scene where reports of an active shooter on the loose. the university alerting students and staff tweeting active shooter on campus. run. hide. fight. >> first time you get a text that there's a shooter on campus so they locked the building down had us all go up to the third floor. >> we all moved away from the door shut it and started to turn off the lights and sat down against the wall. >> reporter: then around noon university officials announce that the scene was secure and no longer an active shooter situation. >> a man with a knife running around cutting people. >> reporter: police later confirming the suspect was shot and killed and rumors about a second suspect unfounded. >> a male suspect drove a vehicle over the curb west 19th went through college

avenue struck pedestrians. he exited the vehicle and used a butcher knife to start cutting pedestrians. >> there were multiple injuries related to lacerations or cuts most likely as the chief said from the stab wounds from the butcher knife. >> reporter: officials aren't releasing the suspect's name but sources say he's a legal resident of the u.s. originally from somali. elizabeth hur abc news, new york. >> well, video from inside a nearby classroom shows how students frantically tried to protect themselves from any type of threat. they worked together to stack chairs up against one of the doors as soon as they saw that campus alert come out. faculty and students say they do drills and prepare for moments just like this. >> reporter:. once word of the attack started to spread facebook activated its security check. the feature al llewes users to mark themselves as safe so that friends and family know that they are okay.

"action news" reporter bob brooks now live at the scene with the very latest details on this. bob, what can you tell us? >> reporter: brian, good evening. it's not supposed to be like this for students. one young man was trying to make his way to school this morning when he was shot multiple times. it happened just up the street from where we are, a very nice neighborhood, lots of families, lots of kids living here and many of them were outside waiting for their buses this morning. west 27th and north van buren street, that's where police say the 15-year-old freshman

at dickinson high school flagged down a bus for help. he was shot multiple times trying to make his way to school. officials say he was hit in the stomach and arm and is now in critical condition. >> we was sleep when we heard these big shots, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, like that. so we knew somebody was shooting. >> reporter: we spoke to neighbor ira finley. he lives right near the scene and says when it happened the street was filled with kids waiting for the bus. >> some kids ran up this way. we saw some kids jump on the bus and some of the bus drivers were telling the kids to get on the bus for their protection. >> reporter: another neighbor came out to check on his son and saw at least one car riddled with bullet holes. he knows this could have turned out even worse. >> it was a lot of little children that catch the bus at these corners. >> reporter: the teen was shot and rushed to a.i. dupont children's hospital. we spoke with students today who wish their classmate a fast recovery. >> i hope he comes out better and i wish luck for him and his family. >> reporter: neighbors here at the scene are extremely saddened this happened by their homes.

followed him out of the stop and go convenience store just a few blocks away. detectives are currently reviewing surveillance video. no arrests have been made at this time. >> well, a chilly but mostly sunny start to the work week today as we get a first check of the accuweather forecast. >> all right its back to work, right? >> back to work. >> meteorologist adam joseph on this monday. >> started with sunshine, a little on the cool side but this afternoon the clouds quicking racing in ahead of a system that will bring a couple of frowns our way the next couple of days. as we look at the numbers right now 50's across-the-board in the midatlantic, 51 in philadelphia, washington 52 degrees, 50 for richmond new york city and pittsburgh right now sitting at 51 degrees. but there is a massive storm bringing even some severe weather in the deep south, south of little rock, arkansas. there are tornado watches in effect for jackson, mississippi. all this is heading to the north and east and it's going to bring very warm air along with the rain starting tomorrow. so, what to expect for the next couple of days. again, wet at times.

"action news" reporter vernon odom will explain how a recount here might work and what it might mean coming up at a live report at 4:30 today. >> the man accused of killing nine worshipers inside a south carolina church is competent to stand trial. thought ruling today from a u.s. district judge. dylann roof is accused of planning the attack and

carrying it out in june of last year. roof is a self proclaimed white supremacist and all nine of the people killed inside that church were black. jury selection for the trial got under way today. the judge also ruled that roof can represent himself on the charges which include hate crimes. the prosecution is seek the death penalty. >> official tributes start add as thousands visited a memorial to the former leader. there was a 21 gun salute in honor of the 90-year-old. while cuba has been subdued since castro's death friday night miami's little havana saw celebrations. >> i think this is a new chapter for us. >> castro's funeral will be on december 4th. after nine days of official mourning are finished. jetblue and american airlines made history in two different cities today.

thanksgiving weekend. >> oh, am i? >> you tell me. >> it's been a long weekend with the kids. it's awesome. everything is great here on this monday as we take a look at sky6 live. a lot of sunshine to begin your monday. clouds racing in this afternoon ahead of a system that is going to finally bring some much needed rain our way. especially in our suburbs to the north and west. right now 50 in allentown, 49 in trenton, 51 philadelphia, 50 wilmington millville, 54 in dover so temperatures are pretty seasonable as we begin this new work and school week. a large low pressure is spinning its heels just to the north and west of minneapolis and you can its fronts trailing all the way down south of memphis. there's a decent amount of moisture with this system. severe weather braking out in the form of tornado watches way down to the deep south and thankfully we're not going to see severe weather with this but as it pushes to the north and east we're going to get wet. the system will stall and we'll have a couple of rounds of energy that pass through. so, it's cloudy and mild overnight and it's dry through

most of overnight. some showers coming in in the predawn hours especially west and north of philadelphia. temperatures are going to back offer into the low 40's for the lehigh valley and reading, 45 wilmington, 46 millville, 43 degrees as well in parts of southern new jersey. so, as we look at future tracker six, 6:30 tomorrow morning you can allow a little extra time if you can here in our pennsylvania counties. that's where the rain comes in first for that morning rush hour. still looks dry in far southern areas but the rain intensifies expands here as you can see some of the brighter colors with the heavier rain north of philadelphia late tomorrow morning around 11:00 a.m. that continues in those northwestern suburbs even during the evening rush hour, kind of broken in nature, down to the south. then we capture a break here tuesday night first thing on wednesday morning, 7:30 a couple of spitting showers before we reenergize the atmosphere as more rain comes in by lunchtime on wednesday and that will continue into wednesday afternoon. in fact, between the next two

days we could see between one and 2-inches of rain and as you can see the heaviest will be concentrated to the north and west and that's a good thing because if you take a look at the rainfall deficits for the year so far anywhere from philadelphia, the lehigh valley, trenton, we're between about six to as much as a foot or so below average, below normal for the year so far for rain with a surplus in southern parts of new jersey, atlantic city over 3-inches buffer normal for the year so far. as we look at the four day at 4:00 forecast, again wet at times with the needed rain coming in tomorrow, 65. more rain, even a thunderstorm late wednesday with the heaviest coming in late wednesday afternoon, near 70's degrees. then we dry it out, not bad thursday, 56 is and a little breezy but sunny on friday of 53 degrees and i'll have that weekend call as well coming up in the next half hour with that seven-day forecast, guys. >> yeah, we do need the rain i guess. never like to see it but -- >> and it's during the week so can't complain. >> you got it. >> all right adam thank you. >> practicing for a test took

this is individual grow november 13th of a suspect taking a box in south philadelphia that box was delivered to the 2200 block of south beechwood street. you're asked to give police a call if you recognize him. again try not to leave those packages out there on your front step too long. a couple facing charges for multiple purse thefts across the delaware valley was in court today. only "action news" was there as justin pope and tiffany groves were led into court in lansdale. they were arrested earlier this month when police say they tried to snatch a purse from an acme store in northeast philadelphia. after that, they were connected to at least two other similar crimes in hatfield and paoli. they face a list of charges including theft and criminal conspiracy. >> a tip led animal welfare to a grisly scene in delaware. four dogs were found dead inside of a home. another 14 rounded up inside is and outside that very same house. some are emaciated allegedly deprived of food, water and medical care.

car and started stabbing several others with a butcher knife. as sharrie just indicated, nine people have been injured, one of them critically today. and artan was shot fatally by that police officer. when he have much more on this still unfolding story this afternoon on 6abc.com. now this. election day was nearly three weeks ago sometimes hard to believe but the results still being finalized. now newly contested. >> today green party presidential candidate jill stein officially filed for a recount in pennsylvania. the results will also likely be challenged in two other states. just hours ago michigan finally certified donald trump as the winner of that state but a recount is likely there as well. >> and as we speak a recount effort is under way in wisconsin. that state's elections commission now says the results of that recount likely won't be known until december. in pennsylvania where donald trump beat hillary clinton by just about 1 percent. vern, what might this mean? >> reporter: it could mean a lot of things, brian. some people consider this a hail mary but sharrie and brian no clear signs how this will ends up. lots of activity in the smoldering suddenly smoldering presidential battle t late today, that lawsuit was filed in the commonwealth court in harrisburg demanding a full recount in pennsylvania of the presidential tally. now in the meantime, anti-trump forces are waging guerrilla warfare on the local front. montgomery county election officials postponed the scheduled certification of the november 8th election returns. the stated reason, the move by the campaign of green party candidate jill stein to have pennsylvania submit to a full recount in the presidential race. her campaign says they have 1500 volunteers across the commonwealth to get a recount here as they did in wisconsin. >> they are seeking a recount

of all of the votes. they're also seeking a forensic analysis of the voting machines because they believe that there's some funny business or fraud or something that took place with the machines themselves that they were capable of being hacked. >> reporter: dozens of philadelphians have come to city hall today to file recount petitions from their individual precincts before the deadline of 5 o'clock tonight. >> people from the same division, you have to have three people and then they'll file the petition and then after that, the -- we'll process the petitions make sure everything is in order and then we'll do a recount of that particular division. >> reporter: hillary clinton carried philadelphia by hundreds of thousands of votes but these citizens are devotedly anti-trump. >> i find him, his entourage and most things that he associates himself with to be completely untrustworthy so it arouses suspicion for sure anything he's associated with. >> reporter: philadelphia elections for 50 years as a

watchdog and now legal counsel for the election commissioners. fred boyd says this is all an improbable long shot. >> these contests, they are individual divisions that are being asked to be recanvassed. that's a very different animal under the code. >> reporter: now, the anti-trump forces though that these all hail mary passes but nevertheless, they carry on. live in norristown, sharrie, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news. >> all right, vern, thank you. an investigation into a shooting in southwest philadelphia is now under way. police say a man was shot several times just before 11:00 this morning in the 6000 block of west passyunk avenue. the victim is now listed in stable condition. so far no arrests have been made. well, a child could face disciplinary action for allegedly bringing a bb gun to sayre high school in west philadelphia. philadelphia school district says no one was injured.

the school district did not say how the bb gun was discovered at the school in the 6800 block of walnut street. police were called out to the school while officials dealt with the issue. >> investigators are working to find out what sparked a fire in camden county overnight. crews were called to the 1200 block of north 32nd street in camden just after 2:00 this morning. firefighters quickly began to fight that blaze that destroyed one home and caused smoke and water damage to a second home. everyone here was able to escape that fire safely. >> turning now to the forecast. meteorologist adam joseph joining us now. weaver been loaferring what in the 50's most damage. >> we have and the sunshine began our monday, clouds have quickly moved in at this point and rain is on the foreseeable future here as we go in late tonight but as we take a live look right now all is dry. still a couple of breaks there on the horizon as that sun is about to set here, 51 degrees, dewpoint at 30 degrees, southerly wind at 10 miles an hour and the pressure of 30.13-inches and it is dry for our eagles in town here this

>> ♪ >> police in northern california are continuing to search for the two women wanted in connection to the disappearance avenue mother who was found safe on thanksgiving day. sherri papini is back home after police say she was held captive for three weeks. she was discovered early thursday morning chained and badly beaten. her captors dropped her off 150 miles from where she went missing and papini was able to flag down a passing car despite being chained. >> i figured if she was willing to risk being hit by a car, she must really need help. >> well, california's highway patrol are now searching through surveillance video from nearby traffic cameras. they're also investigating papini's past including a previous marriage and her online activity. >> on health check at 4:00 today is large new study

challenges federal guidelines on mammograms for older women. the guidelines say there's not much evidence of a benefit for women 75 and older. but researchers from the university of california san francisco say past studies largely excluded women in that age group. after analyzing five and a half million mammograms they say breast cancer gradually increases until at least the age 90 and mammograms are good at detecting it. >> all right, brian, now to big talkers today. and we have a warning for parents. there's an app gaining attention that is being called the children's version of tinder. now, the app called yellow describes itself as a way for people to meet new friends that they can talk to online. this is how it works. it's said to be similar to tinder where a person swipes right to like a person and then they can communicate through the picture messaging app snapchat. but online experts who are into safety are now worried that child predators could target these kids.

the app's creators say well, you must be at least 17 years old to download it. but there is no way to actually of course keep kids from signing up. yellow claims to already have 5 million users. all right. to an amusement park now that's in japan and was forced to shut down its newest feature. their ice aquarium and it's all because of complaints of what's below. it is a skating rink that had 5,000 dead fish frozen underneath the ice. the space world theme park said there were 25 different kinds of fish in this new attraction. well, some were arranged into words and shapes. eight opened customers started complaining on social media. they called it tasteless and sinful. the park says the fish were already dead when they bought them. they will now remove the fish and hold a religious service for them before using them as fertilizer. that definitely a big talker

today. now to a story of a heartwarming reunionry three three -- three years in the making. this year in thanksgiving a family finally got their dog back. >> where have you been? i missed you. >> look at that face. bella had been missing for three years. the family says, you know, someone snatched the dog right from their yard in del ray beach. they ended upsetting up a facebook page and putting out fliers but they just couldn't find the maltese mix anywhere. well, that was until last tuesday when they got a call from a new jersey animal shelter that bella had been found. he got on a flight to newark and was able to bring bella home finally. the family still doesn't know how she ended up all the way up here in our neck of the woods in new jersey but say her microchip helped the animal shelter track the family down. >> incredible cross country journey. >> talk about that. if that dog could talk. >> she looks a little tired

southeasterly direction. there is the sun early on in the day, the clouds marching in from the south and west, couple of sprinkles in western parts of pennsylvania but as we widen out the majority of the rain is still in parts of the western ohio valley, the tennessee valley and that sinks all the way down to the south where we're tapping into the gulf of mexico and severe weather watches are popping up in the form of tornado watches in parts of jackson, mississippi and just to the north of new orleans, louisiana and again, rounds of rain will be passing as a strong jet stream carves its way up the eastern seaboard. so, for tonight it's cloudy and mild, a few showers developing by dawn especially in our pennsylvania counties, 41 in the suburbs, 46 degrees for center city with a southerly wind. large low pressure is spinning right now in the western great lakes and it's going to pretty much stall there and what that is going to do is create a jet stream south of this low that pushes to our north and west. this is a river of air that will help ignite rounds of

energy that will ripple along that jet stream and kind of follow that path. so, again, one coming in tomorrow, the next one coming in on wednesday and in between the two days about one to 2 inches of rain likely. warm air surging and even the chance of a thunderstorm to pop especially here on wednesday. so, at 7:30 tomorrow morning, you see some of those showers philadelphia, especially to the north and west. then the radar will be filling in. you can see some of these brighter oranges and yellows with moderate to heavy rain. this is lunchtime here on tuesday, even pushing to the coast. then as we get into the evening rush, could be very slow especially north of philadelphia, kind of along a track here with that area of energy mainly working to the north and west that kind of fades as it sinks to the south as we catch a break here tuesday night early on wednesday and then the next round of heavy rain comes in late wednesday morning. this is 11:00 a.m. and this will continue into wednesday evening. so, the exclusive accuweather
