hey, everybody, welcome to the show. it's celebrity week: las vegas on "who wants to be a millionaire." [cheers and applause] [dramatic musical flourish] ♪ ♪ this is terrible. the rest of the show i have to speak for myself. today's first celebrity contestant is is a ventriloquist who has brought his hilarious brand of sharp-tongued characters to the las vegas strip for his show paul zerdin: mouthing off and today it's just me and him out here. fresh from his season 10 victory on "america's got talent," ladies and gentlemen, paul zerdin. [cheers and applause] that was the easiest hosting i've ever done. i love that. >> did you like that? >> yeah, first of all, congratulations. >> thank you very much. >> "america's got talent," that is something that i'm sure you just say, "you know what? i'll give it a shot." never knowing that it's going to literally rip apart and change your life. >> change your life drastically, really, yeah. i did my first audition at the dolby theatre and then that went very well. and then i ended up winning the show and i never, ever expected.

i knew that i was doing well in the competition... >> right. >> but i--and i thought once i got to the live shows that i might, maybe, possibly get to the finals. but i never in my wildest dreams expected to win it. >> now you're headlining on the vegas strip. >> i know, it's unreal. >> so what is that transition been like? you're from wimbledon, england. >> wimbledon, southwest london. >> a lot like vegas. >> very, very similar. >> i'm surprised you haven't just caught on fire walking outside here in vegas. >> it is, uh-- it's slightly warmer... >> yeah. >> than london i must say. and it's amazing. i mean, it's incredible when you get up every morning and the sun is shining. whether you're in a good mood, or a bad mood... >> right. >> that sun is out there full on. >> so now that you're on the vegas strip and you have your own show, how have things changed for the better, or maybe for the worse? i don't know. >> well, you know, i've been working and doing ventriloquism, performing for--for a long time and i get to travel all around the place. it's so lovely to be able to be in your own theater and come to work every night and you have a crew of people and you have a show that's set, you know, ready for your appearance and your performance every night.

and the audiences have been fantastic. and it's just lovely to be able to go out and not have to pack the bags up at the end of the night and get into the car and go off to the next venue. it's nice to have your own theater and know that you have a show there every night. >> well, i appreciate you taking a little time out from your act to come over and play "millionaire" with us today. and you are playing for a charity. >> yes. >> which charity? >> it's make a wish from southern nevada. >> the best. >> and it's a charity that i've been associated with back home in england and it's my chance to help, you know, an american version of it here in-- >> i've done some work with them as well, phenomenal. love make a wish foundation. well, let me tell you how we're gonna make some money for make a wish foundation today. 14 questions. the money values growing from $500 all the way up to that $1 million. the big story on "action news" is breaking news from philadelphia police. they have arrested a suspect in the hit and run death of 8-year-old jayanna powell in overbrook on november 18. jeanette reyes is live at accident investigation. jeanette, what are the details? >> reporter: well, jim, we learned, "action news" learned the arrest was made shortly after a vehicle was recovered. we did just speak to jayanna powell's father. he's relieved about the news but feels there's much more work to be done. a 24-year-old man is in custody. charges are pending but will likely include leaving the scene of an accident and vehicular homicide. police recovered a vehicle in frazer. that car fit the description given by witnesses. you may remember the 8-year-old girl was walking home from

school with her siblings when she was hit at 63rd and thrown nearly 90 feet. she was taken to the hospital where she later died. her family and police pleaded with the community to come forward with any relevant information, even offering $25,000 in reward money. we spoke to powell's family minutes ago after these new developments. here is what the father said. >> hard. with the community helping us and family helping us, it's helping a lot. one day at a time. >> reporter: the arrest gives family hope justice will be served. though it won't bring jayanna back, they hope something is learned. >> keep crossing guards on the corner and protect these kids. every corner should have a crossing guard. >> jim, it seems the community

did respond to the pleas for help. police give community members credit for this information that led to the arrest. we expect to learn more about the suspect in the coming hours. jeanette reyes, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a woman died in the wake of an accident in west philadelphia. her car was hit at 52nd and locust at 7:15. she was broadsided by a car carrying suspects fleeing from police. they responded to gunshots at 48th and westminster. they fled the scene in a gray nissan. that's where police apprehended the two suspects. philadelphia police are saying the death of a 2-year-old boy this morning in kensington was a homicide. "action news" reporter, christie ileto is live at police headquarters. why do police think this is foul

play? >> reporter: jim, a source tells "action news" a toddler whose family members were identified had a lacerated liver on his body at the time of his death. >> a 2-year-old male not breathing. >> reporter: family members say that 2-year-old is zyair worrell. he was rushed from his home to the hospital where he died hours later. homicide detectives are investigating and waiting for the medical examiner's report. a source tells "action news" zyair had a lacerated liver and bruises. >> why is this baby gone? how is this allowed to happen. >> why would he be dead around his mom and step dad. >> reporter: when is the last time you saw him? >> two days ago, i was holding him. >> reporter: he lives two doors down from the family. did you notice anything on his
