byron allen of philadelphia. the prime suspect of natasha gibson who was butch evered in front of a friends house in september. >> we obtained a baseball bat and knife, both we believe were used in this brutal attack. >> they believe that gibson's killer was cut in the attack. and followed a two mile trail of blood and found the murder weapon in a storm drain and dna was put in a data base and preliminary tests matched alan's dna. >> we hope in the next few days we'll be able to get the confirming lab report in regard to dna and then we'll act accordingly. >> i am so happy right now. >> gibson's mother called the developments bitter sweet. tomorrow would have been her daughter's birthday and she is taking care of her 10-year-old granddaughter since the brutal slaying. >> we went through halloween and

thanksgiving, my daughter's birthday is tomorrow and we have to do christmas, it's been rough. it's been rough. >> allen is behind bars and charged in the vicious throat slashing of a woman in port richmond in april. they are trying to connect alan to a half dozen try vai lent attacks and assaults in the area including the rape and murder of ricky morgan. allen spent much of the last 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty to carjacking and weapons charges in 2003. >> we are going to get justice. >> sources tell me that he lived with his girlfriend. and she is not cooperating. the wilmington fire department just announced the death of another firefighter killed in the line of duty. senior firefighter ardis hope

know that god is in the plan. >> it was after 9:00 a.m. that they got a 911 call about a robbery in progress at community first credit unon in jacksonville. and s.w.a.t. units were on the scene and the suspect made dangerous threats. >> he threatened to kill hostages multiple times and putting the gun to the back of the hostage's head and then to hours later a daring move from inside of the credit union gave the s.w.a.t. team a chance to move in and free the hostages. >> two people were hiding in the bark unknown to the hostage taker. those two people took an opportunity to flee the bank and that distracted the hostage taker and at that time the s.w.a.t. team made entry into the bank. >> i am relieved right now not much going through my mind.

per hour at the girard point bridge because of the disabled school bus on the downside approaching broad street and a crash in bryn mawr at county line. and one on the roosevelt boulevard at adams where the home depot sits on the southbound side. and a chunk of cotman blocked because of a house fire near the country club diner. we are watching a crash along 422 west of pottstown past 100, we see slowing from time to time but right now it doesn't look too bad and a pair of accidents in delaware you see extra slowing off of 95 on the southbound side of 1 because of a crash near the christiana mall and the ramp from 72 delaware city northbound side of 1 is still blocked because of an accident there. in east hampton, the downed tree at 206 and southbound lanes are blocked and traffic moving both ways in the northbound lanes and

jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. hello again, here is what is happening on "action news" thursday night. the fugitive driver believed to have hit and killed jayanna powell is arrested. and the end result is more like a fire ball on camera. >> and president-elect donald trump and his administration head out on the road to thank the voters and tout his recent job saving moves in indiana. >> and the driver charged with hitting and killing a little girl in overbrook is sitting in a jail cell tonight. a tip call from an auto body shop led police to paul woodland. police believe he was driving the car that hit little jayanna powell and took off. vernon odom is live with more on that investigation.

>> reporter: good evening monica, many in this neighborhood are shocked and saddens to learn that the accused person lives among them and sources say that the case is not yet closed. and paul woodland may not be the only one to face charges here. >> it's a neighbor it's crazy. it's crazy. >> reaction on the 1200 block of marlin street when word spread that an overbrook neighbor is arrested and charged in a hit and run case. paul woodland age 24, he claims he was driving alone at the time and 8-year-old jayanna powell was killed on november 18th as she and two siblings headed tomorrow from school and the vehicle was his girlfriend's car. the break came when a suspicious body shop employee sent in a tip.

>> we went and matched that particular car and it's absolutely the car. >> woodland said he was driving alone at the time but the police investigation remains open. police confirm that jayanna's 12-year-old brother injured at the crime scene said he saw a young woman in the passenger seat and an infant seat. woodland and his girlfriend and their newborn live along the block of marlin street nobody was answer to door today. >> it's sad. why would you hit and run? it's an accident -- stop. >> rick paul woodland remains in jail tonight and the charges include homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter. his bail is set at $1 million. and what did the girlfriend know and when did she know it? a man was shot in southwest philadelphia this morning and the person that pulled the trigger is still out there

tonight. chopper 6 hd was over the scene here along the 2800 block of south redfield street just after 8:00 a.m. the victim is a man in his 40s, he was shot in the knee and treated at presbyterian hospital. anybody with information is asked to call police. >> it's still not clear what led to this crash in collingswood camden county. at 30 and route 130 before 5:00 a.m. a white pickup and a red car collided and one person was trapped before the crews cut the person out. the driver was taken to cooper hospital for treatment and both roads were closed for an hour. a suspected arsonist was caught on camera causing a small explosion in the olney section. police hope you can recognize this fire bug. it happened on the 1600 block of north 4th street. the suspect rode up to a garage

and he is already in custody. the suspect is byron allen of philadelphia. investigators say that these are surveillance images of him shortly after violent attacks and he was charged in attempted murder for the brutal throat slashing of a woman in richmond and now dna has linked him to the murder of natasha gibson in september. >> we hope in the next few days we'll be able to get the confirming lab report in regard to dna and then we'll act accordingly. >> delaware district attorney jack walen says the motive is unclear and they suspect it may just have been a crime of opportunity as gibson was walking home from a bar to a friend's house on bailey street. the killer was cut and left a trail of blood and police found the suspected murder weapon in a storm drain and gibson's mother says her daughter was a loving moth
