>> like a fire moved like backdraft or something like that. i never in -- i never seen a fire like that. that was crazy. >> reporter: jason mellow lives in one of the homes damaged by thursday night's fire along north fulton street in allentown. he's thankful his home did not receive extensive damage but concerned about his neighbors who lost everything. >> you can thank god. >> reporter: despite the destruction everyone is thankful no lives were lost northern injuries. the flames consumed an entire block of homes around 8:30 p.m. eight homes were damaged six destroyed and crews say two may be salvageable. firefighters say it was struggle battling this fire. they say it was spreading in the rooftops and the the wind was driving the fires it pushes it and that helps it spread house to house. the wood is 100 years old hasn't seen the light of day in a hundred years that's dry and once the fire gets up into there you're doing the best

you can at that point to stop it. >> reporter: chopper6 shows just how the fire consumed some of the rooftops. frightened neighbors could only look on and pray their homes would not be next. >> my main concern was having it spread. because sparks were flying. >> shoes and clothes and crock pots and towels, everything you could think of. >> reporter: from the flames and destruction came a glimmer of hope. jessica rivera doesn't even live in this neighborhood but happened to be driving by the fire. she says when she saw those victims she knew she had to help. >> it had taken over pretty much the row. we were devastated so we were like okay who are the families involved. we wrote down on my phone as many names numbers sizes of clothes i could get and all day today i did a facebook live and people have been messaging me their addresses. i have been picking up donations from their porch. my my trunk is filled. >> reporter: the red cross is helping seven families for that a total of 23 people. the cause of this fire is

still intervention the lady you heard from, jessica, in the piece there she says she hopes to fill a u-haul of donations and give it to the victims. live in allentown, gray hall, channel6 "action news." brian. >> nice to see that generosity after an awful ordeal gray thank you. charges a kensington mother will face in connection with her son's death. andrea worrell has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing justice. her son was found unresponsive on their home. he died at the hospital early thursday. officials say the boy had a lacerated liver and bruises on his chest and face. he tested positive for thc the main ingredient in marijuana. >> in new jersey, detectives are trying to piece together exactly what led up to a deadly shooting in trenton. the crime happened while the victim was using a ride sharing service and apparently it all began as a rob regional rail new jersey correspondent nora muchanic live for us at the trenton police

headquarters with the details. nora. >> reporter: sharrie, the prosecutor's office tells me that the victim was one of three people who came to trenton meet a manton pick up some cars. but before that meeting could ever happen, this trip took a tragic turn that ended in the death of a camden county woman police are looking for a man who shot amber dudley of collingswood. she was in a lyft ride car that traveled from north jersey to trenton. they planned to pick up three vehicles from someone they were meeting. near the intersection of east trenton avenue and bruin anything police say a gun toting man jumped in the back of the car attempting to rob the trio. dudley was shot in the torso during the commotion. the lyft driver took off leaving the shooter behind and pulled over in front of the trenton police station less than a mile away. police and emt's performed cpr until dudley was taken away by ambulance. she died from the gun shots. >> i heard that somebody got

shot and it was unbelievable 'cause it was no gun shots. you don't hear nothing. >> surprising it was a woman but i'm not surprised that it happened. one kid 17 years old got shot last sum. >> reporter: officials are not identifying the lyft driver. the two other occupants and the man they were emg about the car. dudley had no comment at her nome collingswood. the ride share company released a statement saying our deepest sympathys are with the family and loved ones of the lyft passenger that was tragically killed. safety is our top priority and lyft has been working closely with law enforcement to assist their investigation. >> that's scary. scary to know that you take a ride somewhere you paying a cab or something and you lose your life. it's sad. >> reporter: was it expand was eight random robbery and shooting? investigators are looking into that as they search for the shooter who is still on the run. anyone with information is asked to call police.

live in trenton, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> a lot more to figure out. nora thank you. new surveillance video shows a startling climb northern liberties. watch this. a suspect walks up behind two women, pulls a gun and then grabs one of them. he has his arm wrapped around hir neck with the a weapon pointed at her head. this happened around 6 o'clock tuesday evening on the 400 block of north third. the suspect took off with the victim's bag and he hasn't been caught. "action news" reporter bob brooks will have more in a live report coming up at 5 o'clock. >> a sunny but chilly friday but it's friday which means the weekend is upon us as we get our first check of the accuweather forecast. >> that made me smile. it's friday. let's head outside to macy's macy's -- meteorologist cecily tynan. >> we'll continue that theme with dry but seasonably cool. temperature-wise we're in the upper 40's. the wind chill makes it feel like 42 degrees with those winds out of the west. feels like 30 in buffalo.

that westerly wind also create something instability clouds. the bulk of them north and west of philadelphia and as we head through the evening hours # once the sun sets the clouds will be breaking up. that sets the stage for chilly friday night. the evening manner showing if you're heading out, temps generally in the mid to low 40's but we'll have that breeze really all evening so that means wind chills will be in the 30's so you definitely do want to grab that winter coat as you're stepping out. what's ahead? well, it will be sees plea cool this weekend. should be a dry weekend. winds will still be with us tomorrow so tomorrow much of the day wind chills only in the low 40's and next week looks like we'll have to grab the umbrella again. it's going to be damp and dreary and there's the possibility monday morning a few areas see some snowflakes. i'll talk more about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. back to you guys. it will put you in the christmas spirit. >> we like that. >> we're in favor of. that cecily thanks. >> thank you cecily. president-elect donald

trump is convening a group of corporate executives he says will help him create jobs and speed economic growth. mr. trump announced the creation of advisory group today made up of more than app dozen ceo's and business leaders. the president's strategic and policy forum will hold its first meeting a week after the inauguration. trump has vowed to keep manufacturing jobs from leaving company and has set a goal of growing the economy at 4 percent a year that's about twice the he recent average. >> meanwhile election recounts are now happening in three states where president-elect donald trump narrowly declared victory over hillary clinton. first to michigan where despite president-elect trump's request to prevent a recount the state's elections board has deadlocked so that means that recount will start next week unless the courts intervene. this recounts comes at the request of green party candidate jill stein who believes hacking and tamper rigged the vote.

in wisconsin a recount is under way but trump supporters have filed a federal lawsuit trying to stop it saying that the recount also requested by stein threatens the due process rights of people who voted for trump. here in pennsylvania, stein also fighting for a court ordered statewide recount. this as philadelphia elections officials are granting a request to recount presidential election results in 75 precincts. >> we'll be working with the parties that are represented here. the republican partly cloudy skies the democratic party and the green party to walk through this process in front of them and then to compare the results of the machine with the results extracted on election night once again. >> but the city is rejecting a separate green party request to inspect philadelphia election software for malware they claim could have manipulated the votes. again, respect counts happening now in three

different states. brian and sharrie. >> a lot of layers to it. of course we'll keep following it. all right alicia. time for the "action news" traffic report this friday. >> matt pelman standing by in the "action news" traffic center to get us home this afternoon. hey, matt. >> and we're counting the minutes until the weekend. we've also been counting crashes brian and sharrie on 42 southbound. so far two of them this afternoon but the good news is all lanes are opened here on 42. bad news is it is an extra slow go as you come across the walt whitman bridge into new jersey as you head home or maybe head down to cape may for christmas parade weekend this weekend. you can see the slow speeds on the walt whitman bridge just 13 miles per hour getting into the garden state. and right now just 10 miles per hour on the roosevelt boulevard extension coming southbound. we had a broken down bus at fox street that got us off to a slow start. slow zone headed towards the platt bridge. there was an accident upside westbound headed toward 95 and the airport. crash is gone but as you can see the westbound traffic is still extra heavy. watching an overturned vehicle

>> ♪ >> there are 91 stolen bikes waiting to be claimed by their rightful owners in new jersey. the camden county police department rounded up all of the stolen bicycles in the basement of this local bodega

in camden if you live in the area and your bike has been stolen this could be your chance to get it back. officers in camden discovered the stash of bikes in the basement of that small grocery store. on the 600 block of broadway during an investigation that started back in october. all of those bikes were being put up for resale. if yours has gone missing camden police have posted all of the recovered merchandise on their web site. now, you will need to provide proof of ownership like a serial number a receipt a photograph or some other documentation. >> 91 individual pictures. if people can provide any type of documentation or maybe some pictures of them with identifying markers on the bicycles we would return the bikes to their rightful owners. >> now police have also recovered some ipads and iphones other electronics from the very same investigation. those they say have been easier pair up with owners because well people tend to know the serial numbers on those types of devices and not

so much with the bikes. so, as for who was running this stolen bike ring no arrests have been made and this investigation is very much ongoing. in the meantime they want to get these bikes back to their owners. brian. >> and the owners eager to get them. alicia thank you. national unemployment rate has dropped to a nine year low now showing what analysts call as proof of a steady here. the rate is sitting at 4.6 percent now and employs added 178,000 jobs in november. the pace of hiring is keeping the federal reserve on track to raise short term interest rates. that's expected to come in less than two weeks. now a look at the closing numbers on wall street. and here we go. the dow falling about 21 and a half points today but still above that 19,000 mark. nasdaq rising four an half points, the s & p 500 also up just less than one point on the day. >> well, people lined up in droves to learn about job openings across philadelphia. chopper6 was over the

community college of philadelphia as the line stretched around the building. they were all there will to attend the city's hire me career fair. organizers say 5,000 people showed up proving that there is a need in the community. they were expecting about 1500. at least 30 departments from the city were on campus today with about 100 total jobs available. >> of course that lots lott will be hiring additional jobs for the holiday season. tonight is west chester's popular christmas parade. >> where the accident that's where we find adam getting in the holiday spirit. the parade going on for about a decade and with a decade for if you adam. >> reporter: bigger year after year. in fact, this is a big parade in a small town. 35,000 spectators line the streets in west chester to watch this parade. and look at that i-walk and they cue the music. all right. i'm not the star of the show here tonight, this is one part of the parade that you'll see

here tonight. take a look at them. this is the on edge movement directed by cara tester. it's their seventh year of being a part of the parade and what gets me every single year is that they are not wearing many layers so they have to move to stay warm and also they were in our 6abc dunkin' donuts thanksgiving day parade just last week. you know what, temperatures aren't too bad right now. it is 49 in philadelphia. the same for trenton. reading 45 degrees and millville the temperature at 48. winds, though, they're pretty breezy. 30 miles an hour right now gusting in philadelphia, 35 miles an hour wilmington and in reading. 24 miles an hour. as we look at the satellite and radar, high pressure really is dominating from the northern plains to alabama with some rain developing in texas and that's a weak little wave that's going to pass through here as we get into the beginning of next week but for tonight you're coming out here this evening you're going need a couple of layers but for the rest of the overnight

it's partly cloudy. brisk and chilly. winds stay up 10 to 20 miles an hour. in allentown and millville 34. 38 degrees in philadelphia and 36 for wilmington and trenton. as we look at wind chills at 10 o'clock tonight, in philadelphia right around the freezing point just below in it reading at 29. by 8 o'clock tomorrow morning 31 degrees in philadelphia, ninety eight allentown, 28 in millville and just 16 up in the poconos. by 3 o'clock in the afternoon tomorrow 42, philadelphia wilmington, 37 in allentown and feeling like 39 degrees in reading. as you look at your four day at 4:00 forecast, 49 degrees for your high tomorrow with that chilly wind under partly cloudy skies. winds again gusting to near 30 miles an hour. then on sunday, sun giving way to clouds at 47 degrees. and then early monday morning there could be a morning quick rain or a snow shower. the snow showers combine far to the north. not a big deal but we'll watch it.

50 degrees by the afternoon with some peeks of sun and then rain arrives on tuesday afternoon and pretty chilly with a temperature around 48 degrees. they keep dancing here and a beautiful christmas tree behind it there. they are one of 20 musical acts that are in the parade and this parade starts at 7:15 and it last as good two hours and i want to show the folks at home one other thing. you loot got to look at all the proud moments here. they're literally taking cameras, videos, some of your daughters in there performing? >> yes. >> reporter: how many videos do you have of her. >> a lot. >> reporter: a lot. >> yes. >> reporter: are you proud of her for being here tonight all of you i'm sure. >> yes, we are. >> reporter: i think you should wear the outfit they are just to support them. >> of course. >> reporter: coming up in the next half hour we'll have the reston high school marching band and much more coming up with that seven-day forecast in just a little bit. >> show me those leg kicks adam.

without taking anything. police think the suspects moved down the street to family chrysler dodge jeep and ram. they used their car to ram the metal fence and broke another door to get in the showroom. once inside they found a minivan in the service area with the keys in the ignition but as they drove away or tried to the van broke down and the two suspects ran off. yes, you're asked to call police if you know anything about these crimes. >> construction crews are getting to work on a new high school in trenton. today there was a groundbreaking at trenton central high school. demolition on the school finished in april when the iconic clock tower was torn down. the school is being replaced with a new $130 million high school that will be used by the 1900 students there. it's set to open in 2019. >> the popular amore statue has found its permanent home in philadelphia. it came to town on loan for pope francis' visit last year. the scup comer has been moved from the philadelphia museum

colleagues are remembering her. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live outside the fire station where hope worked there. vern. >> reporter: good evening, sharrie. it's been widely known in this town that miss hope's chances of survival were slim narrow at best and the fact she battled for over two months is seen here as a sign of her strength and her courage. black bunting hangs over the entrance to senior firefighter ardythe hope's last assigned post station number five. wilmington's fire chief was emotional today as he paid tribute to the 23 year department veteran who overcame a brain tumor earlier in her car tree win. commendations and awards for her service. >> ardythe is the first female line of death in history. >> reporter: ardythe hope suffered burns over 70 percent of her body in the row home arson. two veteran colleagues perished in that inferno

christopher leach and jerry fickes. hope charged in to help them. ardythe hope fought for 68 days trying to survive this disaster. >> we were called to the hospital and we worked diligent to get the family members to the hospital for what we thought would be hard death hope's last night and she lasted two more weeks. >> reporter: ardythe hope was due to retire from the city's fire department in january. she was about to receiver her nursing degree. she was a single mother of three. >> i was with the family last night in the hospital during ardythe's final moments. i love that family. and i appreciate and respect the ability to be there. >> reporter: brian, funeral

arrangements are still being finalized hopefully for sometime next week they say. the chief says it will be a full honors line of duty death funeral for her. the arson suspect will soon face a third first degree murder charge in the wake of hope's death. live in wilmington, delaware, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> and our thoughts are with that fire department. thank you so much. a man is in critical condition today after being shot three times in north philadelphia. it happened late this morning near sixth and butler streets. police say the 31-year-old victim was shot in the cheek, neck and shoulder. he was taken to temple university hospital. no one has been arrested as yet in this shooting investigation. police in cherry hill say the man in these surveillance photos used a float to rob a bank about 8:30 this morning dispatch wednesday at the republic bank on route 70. officials say the man never showed a weapon and left the scene on foot. he was wearing a distinctive two tone wool hat with the

words sea york on it. if you have any information about the suspect are you urged to contact police. >> attorneys were in court today fighting for former pro wrestler jimmy super fly snuka. a judge ruled back in june that 73-year-old snuka was incompetent to stand trial for the 1983 death of his girlfriend nancy argentino. prosecutors want his mental fitness re-evaluated and are asking the judge to require snuka to participate in outpatient treatment. snuka was not in court but did testify from florida via face time. federal regulators want all u.s. train operators tested for sleep apnea following that deadly new jersey transit crash in hoboken. the operator of the train in hoboken was found have the fatigue inducing disorder. a woman was killed in that september incident and 100 others were hurt. federal railroad administration issued a safety advisory today calling for

screening and treatment of sleeping disorders and it says engineers with the issue should not operate trains until they are fully treated. >> the city of philadelphia wants to make sure enough is being done to support its veteran population. today city council held a hearing to investigate if the area's va medical centers are properly screening and treating veterans with brain injuries. medical experts veteran advocates and va representatives all took part in that hearing. the va says they are doing what they can to screen, treat and support veterans. >> all right. for years west chester has been entertaining huge crowds for the holidays with its annual christmas parade. this year marks the 37th one. >> 37. meteorologist adam joseph has been helping host the fun now for a deck caged he -- decade. he joins us live. >> reporter: it's a.m. spectacular night here. it's a family event. it's a family tradition where people come out and it gets

bigger and better every single year and you can hear the music behind me. take a look. this is hometown band the reston high school marching band one of 20 marching bands that will be in the parade tonight and they are vying for prize money. yes, they give out $5,500 with the top 20 bands that perform here so they're going try to go for number one here tonight. as we take a look at the weekend outlook 49 degrees for the day tomorrow so it's going to be another chilly day and windy as well and then going into sunday 47 degrees. any early sun will give way to clouds in the afternoon with a december chill and this band here, they are six time state championship -- champion under the direction of michael shore mount so they sound spectacular, they look spectacular and you know what, i think they're kind of enjoying this staying in one position. anyone who has been in a marching band not easy to walk

this parade. >> reporter: yeah, 10 years i've been a part of this parade. i remember co-hosting it with karen rogers and we just had a little table and a chair broadcasting it here locally and now it is a huge production. you can see the production team here putting the final touches on the broadcast booth. i'm going to be co-hosting with carolyn gracie and dan hughes from qvc where they'll air part of this parade and a larger portion on christmas eve and christmas day. this will be lit tonight for a big tree lighting and also plenty of performers in the parade. this is a two-hour parade that kicked off at 7:15 p.m. you are now looking at the betsy daily school of performing arts. the ages of these young ladies between seven and 18 years old and they have been educating dance on the main line for 40 years. i said they look absolutely

"action news" reporter bob brooks live at the scene now with the latest on that investigation. bob. >> reporter: monica and rick good evening. all we can say a luckily this woman was not hurt. she had a pistol pointed to the side of her head as you're about to see. this could have ended up much, much worse. it's one of those things you hope never happens to you. a suspect sneaks up behind two unsuspecting women this past tuesday. it's almost 6 o'clock. philadelphia police say they just got out of work. he pulls out a gun in his left hand and goes in for the attack. you can see the suspect chokes the victim. she's 28 years old. he puts the gun to her head and he steals her bag and takes off. she did not fight back and that's exactly what you're being told to do. >> don't fight. you know, give them whatever they're asking for and, you know, live to see another day. >> reporter: crime unfolding in the 400 block of north third leaving so many in disbelief.
