heads out to sea and takes the moisture with it but plenty of heavy rain is moving through over the next few hours. we have heavy rain over the new jersey turnpike and i-95 and the schuylkill expressway and the blue route and our entire evening commute is really, really soaking in addition where you see the brighter oranges, that is where we have what known as bright banding where we get the sleet mixing in and forth to the north the poconos, the colder air moved in and changed over to snow, great news for the ski resorts lake harmfully and big boulder, a winter weather advisory for the poconos, 2 to 4 inches of snow expected and the higher elevation could be icing do be careful if you are driving tonight. i don't think that is a good idea. here is what to expect closer to home. we are looking at generally a half inch to inch of rain.

toyota corolla slammed into the trooper's cruiser head-on. a newly married husband. >> grieving family gathered inside of this neat little home. frankie williams was newly married but lived here for several years and was well regarded. >> his dream was to become a state trooper and last year he was in school and finally got his dream job. and now this -- >> now this -- it is sad. >> miles away at the police barracks where williams was posted flags were lowered. williams responded to reports of a car driving erratically. a vehicle fitting the trips slammed into his cruiser, identified as lloyd of elmer.

authorities spend afternoon raiding a business in buck county. local agencies converge on a tobacco shop in bristol pike in bensalem and the store is under investigation for some type of fraud. undercover agents removed boxes of cigarettes from the building. >> temple university is dealing with the departure of its famous football coach tonight. this afternoon we learned that matt rule is leaving or perhaps left temple for a new job at baylor university. ducis rogers is here more with more on the announcement. >> a surprise and not a surprise when you see what he accomplished at the school. matt rule flirted leaving a year ago and he remained a hot coaching prospect and today he accepted the job at baylor. he complied a record at temple.

this past saturday he led temple to its first conference championship in some 49 years, at baylor he joins a power five conference in the big 12 but that school has problems off the football field. they are dealing with several sexual assault scandals involving football players, rule met with his temple players this morning and gave them the news. >> he wanted us to understand that we are the reason this is happening not because of just him. we did this for him. it's not like oh gosh thank you i'm out. he said thank you guys this is what you guys did for me and my family. >> coach loves temple. he gives his heart. he makes the decision and it has to be impactful for his life and his family. >> assistant coach ed foley is the interim coach and leaves the team in the bowl game against wake forest and the search for a

permanent replacement has begun, the school is not in a rush but need to get it done quickly. now that rule is heading out temple students and fans worry about the future of their team. sara bloomquist has reaction from campus. >> reporter: good evening. the mood here on campus about the same as the weather. dark and gloomy. most students told us they were completely shocked and surprised by the announcement that head coach, matt rule, is headed to baylor, others are sorry to see him go they understand this is how college football works. >> i was shocked, completely shocked. >> shocked a word we heard on temple's campus today. many did not expect matt rule to leave especially after the 34-10 conference win over navy. >> we just won a championship and there is more to come. >> the word spread fast more rumors on social media and then

a threat to a subway station in los angeles came from an anonymous tip line overseas, mayor eric garsetty announced the details, specific to the red

line universal station that was heavily guarded and boarded the train to show the confidence in the security. from our delaware newsroom police are tracking down the driver and vehicle that hit a child and took off. the suspect was driving a dark colored chrysler sedan like this one here. it struck a 12-year-old boy trying to cross memorial drive at 5:30 p.m. the child remains hospitalized with broken bones. the streets in front of cooper hospital in camden overnight when a shooting victim was dropped off outside. police say a car pulled up to 7th and benson street and left the victim in front of the hospital. police believe the shooting happened elsewhere and the two people that brought the vick time to the hospital were taken into custody. a new study shows that most fast food kids menu items

ikea is the latest company to expand their parental leave policy. the home furniture store offers paid leave for new moms and dads

beginning january 1st. it applies to adoptive and foster parents as well. it's designed to keep them in a competing market. and microsoft also expanded their policies. the philadelphia school district is getting a financial boost to help people get their high school diploma. dr. william hite announced a $236,000 for adoption program helping them earn money for their diploma. it was formerly known as twilight. classes are offered twice a day at four locations and they can earn six or more credits each year. and high school students teamed up with military veterans to make cookies for troops serving overseas, at middletown high school they made 700

poconos and 2 inches of snow and ice up there. closer to home a mainly rain event however we are getting reports of sleet and snow mixing in especially in berks county and the lehigh valley. this one band is moving across 222 right now. moving up to the north and closer to home in philadelphia, it's really pouring. you can see one band is lifting north of philadelphia, we have another one moving through newark, delaware through chester county and rounds of heavy rain as we head through the evening hours, it will begin to taper off at 9:00 or so. bad timing for the evening commute. the good news is, areas where we have the sleet mixing in and temperatures at the surface well above freezing and not freezing on roads in allentown and the poconos another situation. cape may 48 and trenton 41 degrees. the visibility is not that low

mcknight is charged with manslaughter. what police say about the case. 20 people are rescued from their burning apartment. you'll hear from a resident that refused to leave some neighbors behind and a big blow to temple football. matt rule is taking a new job at baylor university. and criminal charges for joe mcknight came nearly a week after the road rain confrontation in a suburb of new orleans. they announced the arrest of this man, ronald gasser and defended his department's decision to release him at first without charging him. >> reporter: well monica, at the end of the day it's sheriff says their obligation is to get it right and they took the time to determine this was not about race but about two men behaving badly with tragic consequences. four days after this man

the flames quickly spread through apartments in frankford before 5:00 a.m. it was clear that reads could not get out on their own. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at the scene with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: good evening rick, no word from the fire marshall so far tonight. they were investigating today in all of this rain once they got into the building, nearly two dozen victims are accounted for tonight and they are being helped and sheltered by the red cross, relatives and friends. this is a classic prechristmas tragedy but at least nobody was killed. >> victims say that the fire broke out at 4:00 this morning in the living room of one of the nine upstairs apartments in this building that house a deli on the ground floor forcing 20 people out of their homes they had to flee out of their homes with nearly nothing. included was a 12-year-old and

some were treated for injuries, this man was burned on his face and hands. >> i'm glad i'm alive. but tyrone coles is hailed a hero getting others out of harms way as the blaze intensified quickly. >> i heard others screaming and a couple of old people in my apartment i had to help out. >> god is awesome and he was able to save other people's lives and got saved my child's life. >> with the smoke so dense some had to get on their knees and crawl through the fire escape and others had to wait for the fire department ladders and the dramatic rescue of a baby. >> they put the baby on the back roof and my uncle had to grab the baby off the roof and able to get down off of the roof. >> loved ones came to the scene. and pets disappeared and christmas items were lost for

from our new jersey newsroom tonight. this is careen hayes facing criminal charges in toms river for allegedly burning a 6-year-old child with a lighter. it happened while hayes was watching the child and the victim suffered third degree burns to his neck and ear and is he charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. a woman was injured when her car took out a fire hydrant and landed on its roof. firefighters were able to pull the woman from the car as water from the broken hydrant flooded the street. police say that the 70-year-old driver may have suffered a medical condition before losing control. chopper 6 hd over the philadelphia navy yard this morning as firefighters conducted an investigation, they were called to a building along admiral perry way.

workers in the building were evacuated and it's not clear what happened or if anyone was injured. >> a landsdowne firefighter suffered an injury fighting a blaze last night on nayak avenue. it spread to the third floor before crews would get a handle on it. the cause is under investigation. if philadelphia a portion of martin luther king drive will close for portions of time as construction gets underway from sweet briar to eakins oval to repair a falling wall along the schuylkill river. no traffic from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. >> lets check the traffic scene at this hour now. matt pellman has word on all the closures.

with someone when are you hot you are wanted. matt rule completed his second season and that was enough for baylor to hire him away from temple. he will be announced tomorrow in waco, texas. rule went 28-23 but the school is coming off their first conference championship in 49 years. he flirted with leaving the school a year ago and at baylor rule takes over a team that is dealing with a sexual assault scandal involving football players. jaime apody is live with player reaction. >> reporter: you know the report that rule turned down a job at oregon but the thought is that baylor program will be easy to turn around given that texas is a football hot bed and now temple has to find a new coach and fast.
