snow in northeastern pennsylvania tonight. this is video from scranton. and they will have measurable snowfall before it's over. in our area it was all rain and plenty of it. this was the scene tonight at 34th and spruce in university city. let's get the latest information from meteorologist cecily tynan and accuweather. we have the wet, now get ready for the cold. >> that's right. the arctic air by the end of the week. this system is saying bye. and we have leftover rain around philadelphia, south jersey. but getting accumulating snow in the poconos. mount pocono recording a whopping 5 inches. and we had a little bit of accumulating sleet in northern north hampton and northern montgomery county. temperature-wise, philadelphia, 43 degrees, well above freezing.

in camden county. a pickup truck struck a person along the 400 block of south black horse pike. the impact left the victim's items scattered on the highway. even on the roof of the striking vehicle. unidentified pedestrian was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. the american flag was lowered to half staff today at the new jersey state police barracks at fort norris, cumberland county. where trooper franky williams was posted. and where his fellow troopers are filled with shock and grief. and this is where williams suffered fatal injuries last night. that scene in millvale. the post is also where action news reporter jeanette reyes is right now. jeanette, one accident, two dead, and a lot of people with lots to say about a fallen officer. >> reporter: well, jim, a lot of those friends and family just devastated. we're miles away from where that

tragic accident happened. and you can see the flag flying at half staff. we spoke to a childhood friend who says this is a tremendous loss of a man who was made for the uniform. >> he dies like -- he had people looking out for them. he was the one who stepped up and took care of us. took us under his wing. >> reporter: bill warren jr. is one of many family and friends still? shock over the strategic accident that killed his childhood friend, frankie williams. the new jersey state trooper was responding to reports of anker rattic driver in millvale. a car fitting that description driven by a 61-year-old psychiatrist crossed the median and slammed into the cruiser, killing them both. >> not even one year under hid badge. didn't get to have kids. >> reporter: warren met williams in middle school and shared stories of a stand-up guy who was popular and made it a

point to reach out to those who had trouble making friends. >> he was the guy that would go up to the kids who got bullied and take care of them. >> reporter: williams put his people skills to use as a lowe's seasonal employee in egg harbor township in 2008. he would work his way up to manager before leaving for his dream job as a state trooper in august of 2015. in a statement they said those who worked with him remember his smile and the impression he left. we are saddened by his loss and comforted that he lived his dream, if only for a short while. it was simple. he was a good guy. >> he didn't get his badge to have power. he got his badge to help. i couldn't imagine what his wife and his mom is going through right now. really couldn't. it's heartbreaking, man. >> reporter: and many of the troopers colleagues said that although he was a rookie, he

behaved like a trooper who had been on the job for several years. he was an only child and leaves behind his wife, kimberly, who he just married two months ago. reporting live in port norris, jeanette reyes, channel 6 action news >> jeanette, thank you. falls township police responded to another heroin death tonight. that's five deaths in 11 days in the township. police say they took two people who were with the victim into custody. a 19-year-old turned himself in today in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old in the may fair section of philadelphia last week. ian was shot three times while walking to a corner store on the 2900 block of deveraux avenue with a friend last monday night. boy died at the hospital. the suspect's identity has not been released. a second suspect remains at large tonight. philadelphia fire fighters haven't determined yet what caused an early morning blaze that injured five adults and

four children in frankfurt. the two alarm fire started at 4:00 in morning in the 4400 block of frankfurt avenue. fire fighters rescued 12 people, including a baby. red cross is helping 20 people who were displaced. temple university head football coach matt rule is leaving the owl's nest. word came today he is becoming the head coach at baylor in waco, texas. it was a shock to the community. most didn't expect him to leave. especially so soon after saturday's aac conference championship win over navy. >> really is surprised. like hearing he was leaving. especially for baylor. like, come on. >> just kind of unfortunate. he seemed he was building something special here at temple. >> he's here -- like him? >> it might be kind of hard. because you can't really have one matt rule, only one. >> students are disappointed, but i don't think many are

conviction saying he had ineffective council. president-elect donald trump continued his thank you tour tonight in fayetteville, north carolina. this is near fort bragg. so his official introduction of james mad dog got a hugely positive response. earlier today trump caused a stir with a tweet, threatening to cancel the contract with boeing for two new air force ones. trump said the $4 billion price tag was ridiculous. late today boeing said it could alters it plan for the planes to bring the price down. jill stein's petition for a recount will get a hearing before a pennsylvania judge on friday. that was the ruling today. lawyers for stein, for the commonwealth of pennsylvania, and for donald trump will have 45 minutes to make their case. stein held a rally outside trump tower yesterday and called pennsylvania's election system a national disgrace. she insisted that the voting

police in louisiana have announced an arrest in the alleged road rage killing of a former nfl player. officials in jefferson parish charged ronald gasser in the killing of joe mcknight last week. police say they got into an argument after one cut the other off. that's when investigators sagasser pulled his gun and fired three shots. mcknight was not armed. federal officials looking at whether a faulty refrigerator sparked a deadly warehouse fire in oakland, california. all 36 victims died of smoke inhalation. the sheriff's office said the victims knew they were going to die and were sending text messages to loved ones. fire fighters found several cell phones and investigators are analyzing photographs and video to put together a timeline. drivers in philadelphia should expect closures on a stretch of martin luther king drive. the streets department will close it to repair a failing

wall along the river. no cars will be allowed on mlk between 9:00 in the morning and 3:00 in the afternoon, and again from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the intermittent closures will last until january 20th. a first of its kind event took place at the eagles indoor practice facility in south philadelphia. nrg with the eagles hosted a robotics for students. they brought their best, but one could take the top prize. the winning team was tech fire from york, pennsylvania, and they will receive a $5,000 donation from nrg. the eagles having trouble on the field, but off the field, super bowl champions. a former famous eagle and others took youngsters on a shopping spree tonight. christie ileto was there. >> what are you getting? got some shoes? >> reporter: jordan hicks may be one of the eagles starting

not the steady, heavy rain we had earlier. right now the bulk of it heading across south jersey. even here, light to moderate rain. a little bit more moderate near trenton. philadelphia just showers. up and to the north the accumulating snow ended. but pockets of drizzle. and since temperatures are near freezing the national weather service extended that winter weather advisory for north hampton until 1:00 in the morning. a little bit icy situation up there. tannersville, 33, closer to home, philadelphia, 43 degrees. chester, 42. heading into south jersey, get close to the ocean, temperature reaches 48. atlantic city, 48 degrees. and delaware, 41. satellite 6 along with action radar showing we got a pretty good quick slug of moisture. generally about a half inch to three quarters of an inch of rain. continuing to push to the east and clouds are trying to break across central pennsylvania. but there's a lot of low level

moisture. so what that means, we'll wake up with clouds, touch of drizzle. and then we'll gradually dry out through the day. i think we'll see a few breaks of sunshine in the afternoon. but generally clouds will be the rule. temperatures most of the day in the 40s. could touch 50 degrees by about 2:00. so brightening skis late in the afternoon. but more clouds than sunshine. high of 50 degrees. and temperatures step down. thursday, this arctic front moves through. more clouds and isolated shower. doesn't have a lot of moisture with it. 45 degrees the high. but behind it, there's plenty of cold air. friday, saturday, and sunday temperatures not climbing out of the 30s. friday and saturday, wind chills in the 20s. with an isolated shower or maybe even a flurry possible in the afternoon. some instability showers. so the exclusive accuweather seven day forecast. tomorrow, improving as we head through the day. drizzle, lots of clouds in the morning. some breaks of sunshine by the

afternoon. temperatures, a couple degrees above normal. 50 degrees. on thursday, that arctic front moves through, bringing us clouds, limited sunshine. a possibility of a couple of showers. and i don't think we'll see widespread rain. 45 degrees. and then the bottom drops out friday, saturday, and sunday. temperatures only in the 30s. 39 degrees on friday. we'll have wind gusts up to about 35 miles per hour. so the morning wind chills in the teens and 20s when you step outside friday morning. it's really just as cold on saturday. 37 degrees and sunday winds really not a factor. but it will cloud up. it will be cold. 39 degrees. bundle up if you're ed hadding to the eagles game. and late sunday night our next system will pull in. overnight it could begin as a brief mix. but generally this will be pulling in a lot of mild air. so mainly another rain event with a high of 50 degrees. tuesday, seasonably chilly with a high of 46 degrees.
