tomorrow morning, the wind chill 21 degrees and we'll see just partly cloudy skies generally. we are seeing a few lake effect snow showers surviving the long journey from lake ear regent most of the activity has been north of philadelphia. they're kind of dying out but i'm tracking a pretty intense storm system right now. it's pulling into the pacific northwest. this is the system that will bring us some precipitation sunday night into monday and with a cold air in place, some areas it will start as snow. this is what we expect right now. philadelphia and areas down to the south and east this is completely a rain event. however, the northwest suburbs, lehigh valley, berks county, extreme northern county poconos it will begin as a period of snow before a changeover to rain by monday morning. monday morning commute will be a messy one. i'll talk about just how much snow top expect before the changeover coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick. >> all right, cecily, thank you. keep track of the wintry conditions this weekend with

"action news" reporter vernon odom live in north philadelphia tonight with more. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, monica. the emergency room here at temple university hospital is where many overdose victims are brought to be saved in inn there is in that fact time. and the city's medical examiner tells me today that the number of overdose deaths this year could go up 25 to 30 percent. >> i am a heroin addict and i am homeless. >> reporter: this is debbie a heroin at ticket who lives or rather survivors in the streets of kensington. one of philadelphia's busiest heroin trafficking areas.

she's aware of all the heroin related deaths in the city in recent weeks. the medical examiner who is awaiting many toxicology reports believe there may have been anywhere up to 35 overdose deaths since december the first. a lot of people out here overdosing on heroin these days you know. >> yes, i know they are. >> reporter: does that scare you. >> y-it does. right now i'm trying to get help so i can get off of it. are you afraid of killing yourself out here. >> yes, i am. >> reporter: police say "a bad batch of heroin is probably not the singular cause of this latest epidemic." >> i know there's been reports of a number of different things. that's something i'll leave to our lab to determine what, if anything -- what type of agents if any have been used to whether cut or lace or whatever terminology you wants to use have been used if any. >> reporter: in the suburbs, this hatboro woman gwendolyn prebish age 27 center arrest charged with criminal homicide and drug delivery in the case of a 32-year-old willow grove resident.

the d.a. says she agreed to deliver heroin to him but it proved to be the even deadier drug fentanyl. ly. >> a lot of these people are buying fentanyl mixed with heroin and fentanyl can be 40 to 50 times stronger than heroin and unfortunately the addicts when they find out someone has overdosed on something they want that. >> reporter: rick, tonight law enforcement sources across the area tell me the best they're doing the best they can and but as long as the marketplace stays strong someone will try to come out and fill that demand no matter how many arrests there are. live at temple university hospital in north philadelphia, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." ly. >> all right, vernon thank you. police have not yet revealed a motive in the death of a mother in bucks county. her 30-year-old son has been arrested and charged with a

crime. police say zachary cope admitted to attacking and stabbing his mother 42 '52-year-old rebecca cope inside their home in lower makefield bucks county. cope told them he did it after officers found him roaming the neighborhood. he's charged with criminal homicide and possession of an instrument of crime. >> police are telling people in and around temple university's campus to be any on alert after a peeping incidents near campus. police say the man seen in this surveillance video took pictures of a.m. 20-year-old woman through her window as she was getting dressed. it happened at 10:30 monday night in the 1500 block of north 15th street. after someone noticed the suspect, he fled the scene. nine vehicles collided in a chain reaction crash on interstate 295 this morning. chopper6 hd over the northbound lanes in haddon heights as the vehicles were being towed. officials say it started as a minor crash with two vehicles. then the pileup happened afterwards. only one minor injury was reported. ly. >> veterans from throughout our area gathered at the

sun sets will actually start getting later by sunday. speaking about lake effect snow you can see we have this band of some lake effect snow pushing through parts of berks county, chester county, over the turnpike in elverson crossing 222. this has made it all the way from the great lakes, an indication of just how unstable our atmosphere is and how strong the winds are. right now we've got winds out of the west sustained anywhere from 10 to 16 miles per hour and that created wind chills in the 20's today. wind chill philadelphia 28 degrees. allentown 23. wilmington 26. and it feels like 26 degrees in trenton so definitely a chilly night. satellite6 along with action radar showing we started the day with sunshine. clouds building in the afternoon. now that the sun has set, the clouds are really beginning to break up. overnight partly cloudy skies, should be a dry night. it will be chilly but the winds diminishing somewhat.

28 in philadelphia, 24 allentown, 26 wilmington and cape may 31 so if you're heading out on this friday night you definitely do want to bundle up. tomorrow we'll see a mixture of clouds and sunshine. it will be cold, not as windy as today. at 7 o'clock 29 degrees. by 1 o'clock, 37. really holding at about 37, 38 degrees by 4:00 and then by 7 o'clock dropping down to 34 degrees. sunday clouds roll in pretty quickly. this is 8 o'clock in the morning. the thickest clouds to the south. as we head into sunday night this is when we get a piece of the storm system. this is first a warm front. this is known as warm invection so that could create some snow showers across the lehigh valley and the poconos and then as the storm gets closer, it will be pulling in warmer air so temps actually rising by monday morning 3 o'clock in the morning it's 41 degrees and raining in philadelphia. still a bit of a mix in the northern lehigh valley, still snowing in the poconos but then by monday morning, the

commute, we've got rain across our entire viewing area, even in the poconos it will be changing over to rain. as far as snowfall accumulations we're looking at just a few flakes before the rain around philadelphia. the far northwest suburbs one to 3 inches of snow before that changeover to rain, that changeover will wash away all that snow, kind of wasted in the poconos. the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow partly sunny skies a cold day 38 degrees. sunday it's cloudy, it's cold, 37 degrees, some snow showers possible. monday, though, with that storm system cutting to the west, temperatures actually mild, 53 degrees but it will be a wet day, generally about a half inch of rain. tuesday we dry out partly sunny 45. wednesday rain and snow showers with our next front behind that system even colder air than this weekend. adam will talk about that in the accuweather 7-day forecast t i'll let him handle it. >> colder. wow. >> it will make this weekend seem mild. >> great. >> thanks cecily. all right. >> she was laughing when she

widely criticized but the school superintendent has offered praise for the first responders. >> funeral arrangements are being planned for the late john glenn a space hero and former u.s. senator. glenn's body will be taken to the ohio statehouse for a public viewing next week. a memorial service is being planned at ohio state university. actual times are still being worked out. and burial will be at arlington national cemetery near washington. glenn died yesterday at age 95. he was the first american to orbit the earth back in 1962. president obama has ordered flags lowered to half-staff in his honor. and world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the tributes to john glenn as well as donald trump's tests fill his administration. you can watch that following "action news" at 6:00. >> in other news tonight the father and son owners of a.m. south philadelphia body shop at the center of a major insurance fraud case learned their fate today. ronald galati senior and his son own america collision.

both admitted to playing roles in a wide ranging scheme where philadelphia city vehicles needing unnecessary repairs would be fickesd at their shop. senior was sentenced to 14 and a half 229 years in jail. he has to pay $200,000 to the city and one points $8 million to the insurance industry. galati jr. was sentenced to nine to 23 months of house arrest plus $450,000 restitution. a sneaky thief made off with $3,000 from inside an acme supermarket in south philadelphia. happened inside the store on the 1900 block of johnson street this past sunday. the suspect cramped behind the customer service counter and took cash from a drawer. he got away in a light colored vehicle that has a dark colored left front fender. if you know anything about this theft, police would like you to give them a call. investigators also looking for two suspected shoplifters who turned violent outside of a hunting park rite-aid back on december 1st. a loss prevention officer tried to stop the accused

thieves as they were walking out of the store here on the 4300 block of north fifth street a fight then broke out between one of the men and the officer. police say the other alleged shoplifter then returned to the parking lot and pulled a knife on the officer. he wasn't hurt fortunately. if you recognize either suspect you're asked to call east detectives. >> three children were among six people hurt in a five car crash in west philadelphia today. this the scene near the intersection of 57th and walnut. it's not clear what caused it but one of the three adults hurt is in critical condition. the other injuries are not considered serious. a person was found with several gun shot wounds here in the 700 block of walnut street in camden this afternoon. about 3:00 p.m. officers arrived and found the victim on the ground. that person was rushed to cooper hospital for treatment. so far no suspects. from our delaware news room now, two people were reportedly overcome by carbon monixide fumes and were rushed to the hospital this afternoon near wilmington. firefighters responded to a home in the unit block of cleveland avenue about noon.

it's not clear what caused the co leak or who, hour, seriously the two people were injured. >> supporters of mumia abu jamal hit the streets today on the 35th anniversary of his arrest. chopper6 was over the scene here in center city. they marched to call for abu jamaal's freedom and better treatment of prisoners. abu jamaal spent nearly 30 years on death row for the 1981 murder of philadelphia police officer daniel faulkner. he's now serving a life sentence instead. pennsylvania governor tom wolf continued his jobs that pay tore at m and g direct in bucks county this afternoon. the marketing solutions company recently announced that it will consolidate its operations in bensalem and add nearly 60 new jobs. wolf says they have clients in the bio pharma industry. he said keeping a location in the southeastern part of the state where that industry is strong is it a is a "natural fit for the company." >> many communities across our area have posted code blue warnings because of the

in millville. 20's at the shore and in the poconos feels only 9 degrees. satellite and radar early sunshine as we saw, kind of quickly was gobbled up by that cloud cover with those cold winds and there you can see the lake effect snows and again some of those snow showers survive over the mountains. it doesn't happen all the time but it did with that cold air today but notice in the last few images here even the clouds starting to break apart once that sunset we lose the destabilization of that sunshine going and acting with some of that colder tire develop the clouds. so, tonight quickly turning clear, brisk and cold, 24 to 28 for the overnight lows. wind chills near 20 or so during the overnight hours. for the start of the weekend 38 degrees with that cold high in play. wind chills in the 20's, sun and clouds. then the high heads to the east, a return flow comes in around that high. in addition to a warm front. so that throws a lot of clouds our way, 37 degrees on sunday afternoon. could be some snow showers

late afternoon especially north of the city near the lehigh valley and poconos as some warmer air tries to override that many existing cold air and squeezes out some moisture but as we take a look at why we're going flip to rain here pretty quickly is the low level jet about 5,000 feet above the atmosphere will be screaming out of the southwest here, 65 miles an hour, puncturing that warm air in so it was 37 for a high on sunday. this is 4:00 a.m. monday as that jet gets going and we take a look at snapshot at 4:00 a.m. on monday morning and you can see temperatures rise overnight on sunday into monday into the 40's. lehigh valley you could see some snow at the onset including the poconos before that warm air gets in there monday morning to wash much of the snow away so just a few flakes late sunday night philadelphia to the north but north of that pennsylvania turnpike especially lehigh valley berks county we could see one to 3 inches late sunday night after midnight before it does change to rain

20's. and it didn't help the sun disappeared behind billowing clouds before it set tonight. meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the big board. cecily, you can just feel it old man winter is ready to make his entrance. >> that's exactly right, jim. kind of a shock to the system. our high today 38 degrees. that's 9 degrees below normal. the coldest day in 10 months and it felt a lot colder with the winds. right now the wind chill in philadelphia 27 degrees with those westerly winds and that westerly wind is also picking up a little moisture in the form of lake effect snows. the news about the winds it will be diminishing. wind chill tracker showing it's not going to feel different in the overnight. 7 o'clock 26. you can see the wind chill gradually diminishing by 7 o'clock in the morning down to 21 degrees but again, we are seeing a little bit of lake effect snow. right now most of the activity across southern berks county, northern chester county. this is all just from the
