scan live. the bark is worse than the bite you see a lot of white. warm invection, snow, the warmer air is riding at the surface. the air is so dry a lot of that is not reaching the ground. it will do so this afternoon, because of that, the national weather service issued a winter weather advisory. here's philadelphia here, this is south jersey, this is areas north and west of the city, including the lehigh valley and the poconos and the far western suburbs. the timeline on this, looks like. 1:00 p.m. this afternoon through 6:00 p.m., a light period of snow, again this is north and west of philadelphia. very light snow from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 6 to midnight cloudy skies and and a lull in the "action news." from midnight on, cold rain. in philadelphia, a flurry or two, high of 36. i'll have more in ten minutes.

>> whether you goat snow or rain tomorrow morning -- whether you get snow or rain tomorrow morning, the morning team will help you out beginning at 4:30 a.m. on the weather conditions as you head out the door. firefighters acted quickly as a blaze broke out at a peco substation in grays ferry. a fire alarm alerted them of the fire and sprinkler system helped them get the fire under control. there were no injuries and an investigation is under investigation to determine the cause. a fire crashed and burst into flames in delaware county on the southbound lanes in chester. the driver was traveling sow -- south at 2:45 a.m. when the car crashed and rolled over, the car caught fire.

the person escaped with minor injuries. >> in wilmington there was a touching tribute to a fallen firefighter. funeral services were held for ardythe hope who died in a row home arson that claimed the lives of two other colleagues. the fire department elevated her to lieutenant, making her the first african-american woman to achieve that rank in the wilmington fire department. during yesterday's memorial service she was honored with the medal of valour trying to save two other firefighters who died in the fire. brad speakman survived the injuries. >> ardie hope, the daughter, the sister, the mother, the aunt, the firefighter, emt, lpn, rn was all about caring for

closed off area at a nfc inform ski resort may have caused a man his life. blizzard conditions forced the search to end yesterday. the skier and a friend ignored the chains that blocked the side of the mountain to skiers. two men ended up getting caught in the after -- avalanche. one man made it back, the other man did not have a missing beacon. a storm spread a coat of ice on i-84. , 47 miles were closed that left thousands stuck for hours. oregon is getting rain today with temperatures well above freezing thankfully. the midwest and plain states are getting walloped this weekend by a winter storm. snow began falling on the city of chicago last night.

it's still snowing in the windy city, up to a foot of snow could fall, must have of it is due to lake effect. southwest airlines canceled most flights out of chicago international airport. o'hare has canceled flights due to the wintry weather. you look at the video across the country we'll miss out on a lot of of it. we'll get a wee bit of snow, as gray likes to say will be west of philadelphia. there's a nice shot in spring mountain, montgomery county, they are making snow, as temperatures are cold enough. you need numbers below freezing and we've got that. the numbers are in the 20s, windchills 3 or 4 degrees colder than the air temperatures. as we flip it over to the radars, it almost appears it is snowing at this point. you can see from cape may in atlantic city, westward through south jersey and the far western suburbs, appears is if it is

everyone, 9:23 a.m., sunday morning, all this cold air in place, why are we talking about a system that is snow and changing into rain. the low is developing across the ohio and tennessee valley. we have this area of high pressure supplying the cold air. it's draining on the -- training on the eastern slopes of the appalachians. it's mild underneath this low pressure and warm front. cold air to the north and mild air to the south. if you want a snowy set up, this low would have to track like this, it would keep us in the cold sector. it's not doing that, it's lifting to the north, which means the warm front and all the mild air is lifting to the north, as well. you may see light snow today especially west of philadelphia or brief period of it. overnight tonight everything changes over to rain as the warm air floods the region. philadelphia, 36 degrees,

>> there were scary moments when a heater malfunctioned exploded and caught fire at a south philadelphia refinery complex. it happened in a small buildings on the 3100 brock of west peace peace -- passyunk avenue next to a smokestack. the flames were doused and number was injured. a delaware county homeowner shot and killed a man who stormed into his home. the homeowner has a permit to carry the weapon, grabbed the gun and shot the suspect once killing him. no one inside the house was hurt. police say the incident stemmed from an earlier domestic dispute. so far no word if the homeowner faces any charges. in upper darby, delaware county, police looking for the person who shot two people outside a grocery store this weekend. police say someone fired shots on the 6700 block of market

hammonton, 30 degrees. the freezing mark is 32, so you need terms to jump above 32 in order to get the snow to melt. that will not happen anytime soon, the numbers will hold steady over the next couple of hours. future tracker 6 later this afternoon you'll see more than what the model is showing, west of philadelphia. expect a period of light snow this afternoon for all areas west of philadelphia. then we catch a lull in the action round two moves in overnight tonight after midnight. at this point appears if by then, the warmer air moves in. that means it will be more rain than anything else even in areas that will see more accumulation this afternoon. lehigh valley, poconos cruel start out at snow. it will go over to rain. by tomorrow morning, the rain washes everything away. by tomorrow afternoon it's clouds and sun, and limited sun, before sunset.

a driver was hurt after a car crashed and burst into flames over i-95 in delaware county overnight. the action cam was on the scene along the southbound lanes of i-95 in chester. police say the driver was traveling south at about 2:45 a.m. south of curlin street when they lost control and rolled over. the driver managed to escape the burning car with minor injuries and taken to crozer-chester hospital for treatment. in wilmington there was a touching tribute to a fallen firefighter. funeral services were held for ardythe hope after a row home arson claimed the lives of two of her colleagues. the fire department elevated her to lieutenant making her the first african-american woman to achieve the ranker within the wilmington fire department. she was honored with the medal

millville, 31. 33 in cape may. that's the lone location above freezing. 20 in the poconos, 30 in trenton. the good news we've lost that gusty breeze, so temperatures are certainly cold, but they are not harsh we're not seeing the driving wind today. general wind speeds are five miles or less, the brutal windchills we saw yesterday or the day before, we're not dealing with that today. double scan live we set it in motion for you, you can see the sliver of moisture stretching across southeastern pennsylvania this morning, it's a warm front that's off to the southwest. this is what we call overrunning moisture, what's happening the warm air aloft is over running the cold air at the surface, that squeezes out the moisture left in the atmosphere. that's why we're seeing the snow showers this morning. that will happen this afternoon that will create the period of light snow this afternoon west of the city. once the warm front punches through and all the warm air comes in here, from that point on it's all rain.
