the federal courthouse in center city, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> all right, the sentencing making national headlines. vern, thank you. meantime a man wanted in philadelphia was shot and killed in app confrontation with u.s. marshals. this was the scene around 10:00 in the morning on the 1300 block of hellerman street in northeast philadelphia. officials say they were serving a warrant in connection way july shooting when the suspect pulled out a gun. the agent fired back killing the suspect. we'll have more information on the deadly incidents coming up in a live report at 5:00. >> well, a largely cloudy morning gave way to a mostly sunny afternoon as we get a first check of the accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist adam joseph now live at the "action news" big board. hi adam. >> a front came through any morning rain is continuing to exit stage east here as we take a look at satellite and radar. that early morning rain now gone. in fact even the brightest clouds heading on to the north and east as well with some breakup in that cloud cover especially philadelphia points to the

muchanic channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> yeah, a touching tribute. nora, thank you. two men forced their way into a home in the wissinoming section of philadelphia after a 10-year-old child answered the door. this happened around 9:30 last night on the 4200 block of devereaux street. police say the men went upstairs pistol whipped the child's father and then took $500 before leaving. the child was not injured and the father was treated right there at the scene. no arrests have been made. the driver of a car involved in a two-vehicle crash and in atlantic city was killed. this happened in the westbound lanes of the a.c. expressway around 5:00 a.m. a hon today sedan an new jersey transit bus collided in the area of pleasantville. the name of the driver of the honda was not released as of yet and the cause of the crash is still under investigation. >> ♪ly. >> top senate republican said today that congress will investigate alleged interference by russia in last

jenkins and a group of volunteers met at the cozen pal center to pack up those baskets and prepare them for delivery. he's also working with the fop tom deliver toys to 27 families keeping with his football jersey number 27. >> nice to see. >> yeah. >> it is time for a first check of the "action news" traffic report today. >> all right. let's go live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. hey, matt. >> hi, guys. after a rocky start on the really wet in some cases slick roads this morning this afternoon we're drying out so less problems but don't fear, there are still a few issues out there like a broken down vehicle we had here on the schuylkill eastbound approaching passyunk. just got towed out of the way within the last minutes but it's still extra heavy as you come eastbound away from the vine. there was a crash on the roosevelt boulevard extension southbound approaching this points at ridge avenue. crash is gone so the southbound delay is thinning but the northbound one is just getting going for the afternoon rush. already locked up from this point just past the schuylkill on up to broad street with normal afternoon volume.

>> ♪ >> french police are hunting towns in southeast france for four thieves who stole nearly $1 million worth of gold. officials say the suspects were in two cars when they surrounded an armored truck and forced it off the highway. they got the gold locked the two delivery men in the back of the truck and set one of their own cars on fire before fleeing. the flames spread to three other cars that were nearby. no one was seriously hurt but detectives say they don't have

any descriptions of the suspects. >> two police officers in georgia are in the hospital after being shot while serving a search warrant. it happened early this morning in the town of byron. the warrant was for a drug investigation. five officers went into that house while three of them stayed outside. a man inside the home shot at the officers. two were hit. the officers did fire back killing the gunman. the suspect's girlfriend and an infant were in the house at the time of the shootout but neither was hurt. >> with just 13 days until christmas, yes, 13, today marks one of the biggest days for deals online and they're now calling it green monday. research shows the second monday in december is the third largest online shopping day of the entire year. many retailers are offering up to 50 percent off several popular items and some are also offering incentives. coming up in our next half hour of the news here at 4:00

we'll break down some of those deals. >> a bit of mixed bag. the dow closing up nearly 40 points and yes, once again, notching a new record high. the nasdaq down nearly 32 points, the s & p 500 down nearly three. they couldn't prove that they were old enough to win so the state of new jersey has taken away their winnings. $69,000 in unclaimed jackpots won by gamblers in atlantic city have now been seized by the state. the money was won at three different casinos. most of the people couldn't prove that they were 21 and some simply just forgot to pick up their winnings. the forfeited money goes to a state fund for programs for senior citizens and the disabled. >> how do you forget. >> i don't know. >> snow sleet and freezing rain made for slick conditions in northeastern pennsylvania this morning. there were several crashes in lackawanna county including one where four vehicles collided on interstate 81 just

outside scranton. one person was hurt in that crash. in another, a tanker truck slid off the road. this one near goldsboro. some roads in our region had a little bit of ice on them this morning as well but fortunately that ice turned into some rain. >> yeah, the tide has changed a bit. let's check with adam joseph for the latest on the forecast. >> all drivers want to see wet roads not icy roads. places like spring mountain would rather see those snowy conditions than the rain we had today but as you can see, things are looking okay here in spring mountain live on sky6. didn't get any natural snow. all the snow was made during that cold outbreak we had over the last three or so days and more cold air will be coming in to kind of help the ski resorts to crank out some man-made snow but not today. it is 50 right now in philadelphia, 50 in wilmington. lower 40's for allentown and reading. 47 in millville, dover, 49 degrees again we began the day very wet but then this afternoon some sunshine did

develop as we look at front which is now off the coast and as you look to the west very little is happening across the lower 48. there's another boundary in the northern part of the united states near the northern plains approaching the great lakes. that front will be swinging through here during tomorrow afternoon and into the day on wednesday. so, for tonight patchy clouds around but seasonably chilly. 20's in most of those suburbs. 32 degrees for philadelphia. pretty close to that for cape may as well as the boardwalk. as we look at future tracker6 we start with some sunshine here tuesday morning as we go to work and to school but notice clouds will be on the increase ahead of that front to the north and west a little wave of energy developing along it but it looks like the poconos could see a few flurries late tomorrow mainly snow north of there while the rest of us see a lot of clouds as we go into our tuesday afternoon. and you can see it here displayed hour by hour from the morning into tomorrow evening. temperatures will be a little cooler than today. 42 around 1 o'clock in the afternoon, 42 also at

3 o'clock and then dropping back to 37 degrees as we go through the evening hours. then we're going to open the door to some very cold air as we go into late wednesday, thursday and friday. in fact here are wind chills. 5 o'clock on wednesday afternoon 20 allentown, 29 philadelphia, below freezing for millville. by thursday morning this is pretty brutal. in fact zero will be the wind chill thursday morning in the lehigh valley, one lonely degree lancaster and reading, seven in philadelphia and even only in the single digits southern areas while the poconos eight below zero. that four day at 4:00 forecast will show a dramatic change towards the end of the week. 43 for tomorrow clouds and sunshine. sun and clouds a mixture here on wednesday before an arctic front comes through at 42 degrees. then as that front plows through the region we flip that 42 to 24 on thursday, wind chills near 10 in the afternoon, a couple of snow flurries and then still bitterly cold on friday, a high of just 23 degrees.

>> just about 500 children will be getting early christmas presents thanks to the work of catholic high school students. 11 different schools collected the gifts through the archdiocesan kids helping kids outreach program. students wrapped some of them today at archbishop john carroll in radnor. i had some cousins who went there. i better get that name right. families will take the gifts home during the archbishop

burlington known during the holidays as burlington lights is back in the spotlight but this time the circumstances are rather dim. >> i don't know how you could do it. i mean, it's just -- our neighbors are appalled. everybody is in shockism each year they set up their famous display on the corner of steeple chase and tack way. six years ago they decide make the lights shine for their favorite local charity the burlington township food pantry. >> people started leaving money in my mailbox. i didn't do it for to make money. i did it because i enjoyed bringing joy. >> reporter: he's a fire in hamilton. when he came home last night after his shift he realized someone robbed the charity box. >> as we get closer to christmas the donations begin to be hundred dollars a night. >> reporter: in the inside you can see they left the coins but took the cash. >> i think it's a shame. >> reporter: we spoke with dominic from the food pantry. he says their yearly

street around 10:00 after flames broke out in the welding shop. an employee was rushed much rushed to temple hospital with burns. no word yet on what caused that fire. >> police are searching for the suspect who shot and called 17-year-old early this morning in -- killed a 17-year-old early this morning in west philadelphia at the corner of 60th and market streets when he was shot several times. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police are looking for white suv that will fled the scene. now police say someone stabbed a woman several times early this morning in north philadelphia. this happened about 1 o'clock on the 2800 block of north howard street. the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital in stable condition. police say the woman knew her attacker. they have not yet made any arrests here. >> all right, meteorologist adam joseph is back and of course we're wondering what's in store this week. >> big downfall in that temperature department by the end of the week. >> another one. >> the polar vortex. we're saying it. >> oh. no. >> it's returning for a couple of days.

we have avenue few days to prepare for it. live on sky6 over center city you can see a little breakup in the cloud cover there as the sun is trying to return after some rain early this morning. 50 degrees the air temperature. dewpoint 40, winds out of the west-northwest at 12 miles an hour. and as we look at easton right now, temperature there 43 degrees. dewpoint 36. winds out of the west-southwest at 8 miles an hour and if you look in the middle of the screen there, that is the moon coming up over the horizon almost full moon and one more stop here in cape may, 46 degrees is the air temperature. 45 your dewpoint. and the ocean at 47. you can see the waves pretty active right now as that front and low pressure off the coast kind of churning up the ocean that brought the rain earlier this morning. we'll talk about that big drop in temperature and as that that cold air leaves over the upcoming weekend we'll see a wintry mix arrive. we'll have the timing of that and what to expect in that seven-day forecast. >> we're getting closer to

detained 11 people suspected of helping the man who drove his truck into a crowd in nice, france, on bastille day. officials say the suspects are from eastern europe. they are accused of supplying weapons and logistical support. the july 14th attack killed 86 people. isis has claimed responsibility. >> ♪ turkey police rounded up more than 200 members of a kurdish political party today as the country mourns the victim of saturday's deadly bombing attack. tears flowed among the thousands who came to several public funerals in istanbul. officials say 44 people died in the twin bombings outside of an istanbul soccer stadium. police say the 235 people arrested are allegedly connected to a terrorist organization. >> a jury has found a man guilty in the death of former new orleans saints star will smith. cardale hayes shot and killed smith and wounded smith's wife during an alleged road rage incident back in april.

>> looking at the rose bowl coming up. >> got you. as we take a look at storm tracker6 double scan around the area very little happening at the present time. we had that rain early this morning into the early afternoon. that has cleared the coast at this point. some breaks of sun developing this afternoon before that sunset and we're going still see some holes in the cloud cover overnight tonight but before clouds try take over once again on our tuesday. 50 though right now in philadelphia, so still fairly mild 50 wilmington, 42 in millville, 43 in allentown and just above freezing up in the poconos so no longer can make snow up there as that warm air penetrated all the way into the poconos where it testimony rain earlier this morning. as we look at satellite and radar a quick moving system that did begin as a little freezing rain, snow at times up towards the lehigh valley before change to rain. there you can see the clouds breaking apart temporarily here and that will be the trend overnight tonight with some patchy clouds around and seasonably chilly. 20's in most of the suburbs.

32 degrees for center city. west wind seven to 14 miles an hour. high pressure is just to our east on tuesday with a cold front approaching from the west so that just means a lot of clouds around here as that front comes in later on in the day with some sun. there could be some snow showers up in the poconos tomorrow, 43. low pressure to the south is going to merge with the front but too late to give us a big storm here so everything works its way off the coast so for wednesday sun and just a few clouds 42 degrees before this arctic fronts passes through late in the day with flurries around the great lakes. you can see all that cold air bottled up to the north. in fact, you can see the circulation around this large lowest of the hudson bay as of right now. that is the core of that cold air known as the polar vortex and that cold air will sink all the way down into the southern and eastern parts of canada, near quebec and it will drive a very strong wind in here during the day on thursday bringing wind chills even in the afternoon between

zero and 10 above. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 40's for the next couple of days and dry. then as that system passes through thursday, wind chills near 10, a high of 24. could be a few flurries around. still very cold with clouds building late on friday at 23 degrees but it's short lived 'cause look over the weekend as warm air comes back in to flood over the region and kicks out that arctic air we'll squeeze out snow and ice early on saturday changing to rain of 42 and still some rain on sunday up to 52 degrees and then turns cold behind that again so we're starting to see this trend this winter season. the cold air is here but just doesn't link with the storms and it warms up in time for mainly rain when we get these systems that come in guys. >> okay. adam thank you. >> what's the deal is coming up next. >> ♪
