"action news" reporter vernon odom is live outside the federal building tonight. vernon a-very difficult day for the former congressman. >> reporter: indeed, jim, but he certainly knew it was coming. chaka fattah once one of philadelphia's most powerful politicians is going away for a decade. there's no early parole in the federal court system. he was also ordered to pay over $600,000 in restitution. but this was far lighter than what the federal prosecutors had called for. as court ended one of fattah's lawyers told him a 10 year sentence way the "best we could expect." fattah had acknowledged his extensive wrongdoing over a seven year stretch but asked the george take into account his 37 years in elected office generating millions in funding for education programs for the disadvantaged housing for the poor and the advancement of neuroscience. he spoke briefly with reporters.

>> i want to thank my legal team and i wants to thank the support of my family and staff and friends through this very tough time. >> reporter: fattah was found guilty in june of 18 counts of corruption. namely racketeering bribery money laundering and fraud. beginning in 07. the federal prosecutors proved to the jury there was a series of schemes to rip off programs he created federal grants and his own campaign money. multiple former aides and political operatives have been convict the as well. prosecutors asked for 17 to more than 21 years in prison for the once powerful 11 term congressman. >> he used his position in congress to benefit himself rather than constituents and engaged in krim cal activity for his own financial benefit. >> reporter: fattah's lawyers have vowed to appeal in part based on published reports about the dismissal of a descending jury member who claims claims he was removed because he refused to find fattah guilty. >> people make mistakes.

i am not convinced that chaka fattah is guilty. >> reporter: jim, so far jump bartell has refused to reveal the reasons he made that decision to throw that juror off the jury. it's a sealed document at this point. the verdict was -- came in before the judge -- before the verdict was delivered. mr. fattah is that scheduled to surrender on january 25th. live at the federal courthouse in center city, i'm jen many vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> thank you vernon. a federal judge has blocked the bid for a presidential election respect count in pennsylvania. the ruling is the latest roadblock for the effort led by green party presidential candidate jill stein. her attorneys argued that electronic voting machines may have been hacked. the judge ruled there is no evidence of hacking and no compelling evidence that that

pennsylvania's voting system was compromised. tomorrow is the federal deadline to certify the vote for the electoral college. it began as an effort to serve a warrant in northeast philadelphia. it ended with u.s. marshals shooting and killing a criminal suspect. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at police headquarters. chad, what happened on the 1300 block of hellerman street? >> reporter: jim, authorities say this shooting appears to be justified. u.s. marshals went to arrest a man who had a gun wouldn't drop it and he was shot and killed. this is viewer video shortly after the shooting. he's dead in the alley way. a u.s. marshall takes off his jacket and with the help of others appears to check himself to make sure he isn't shot. another marshall then handcuffs the fatally wounded robledo who is on the ground. "action news" arrived a short time later and a gun could be seen next to the body. police say it has and

obliterated serial number. investigators say robledo and woman left this basement apartment on the 1300 block of hellerman. the violent crimes fugitive task force was watching waiting to arrest robledo. >> the male had the handgun in hand pointed at the officers or in that direction of them refusing their noon put the weapon down. at that .1 of the u.s. marshals discharged his weapon striking the male app couple times. >> reporter: police say it doesn't appear robledo got off shot. >> it was scary. a lot of blood. >> reporter: the gunfire started frankie nieves and his girlfriend. he said he heard three shots. he was scared to go outside society couple watched the aftermath from their second floor window. >> we heard gun shots. we thought someone was knocking on our door. so when i heard that i went upstairs to check out back and we saw the guy laying down shot. >> reporter: investigators say robledo was wanted for the july shooting of a man on the 400 block of west huntington

in the fair hills section of the city. >> there's a individual sitting on the steps at that location. this male apparently with two other individuals pull up in a vehicle. he exits the vehicle and begins firing at this individual. >> reporter: the name of that u.s. marshall has not been released. i'm live outside of police headquarters, chad pradelli channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, chad. a police pursuit ended with a crash this afternoon in new castle delaware. now three juveniles are in custody. delaware state police say they tried to pull the car over for a traffic violation near route four and route 273. during the pursuit, police determined the vehicle was stolen. the fleeing vehicle crashed into a minivan 10 minutes later at route 273 and route 13. three juveniles took off running but were quickly caught by police. authorities say the juveniles face charges related to the stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. the driver of the minivan was taken to the hospital as a precaution. every year marie and ron

do a big christmas display at their home and put out a donation box so they can give money to a food pantry. except last night that money went to the pocket of a thief. live outside 46 steeple chase boulevard in burlington township is "action news" reporter bob brooks. bob, just an awful holiday crime. >> reporter: jim, terrible. i honestly do not know how somebody could have the heart to do something like this. take a look behind me. they have this amazing light display set outside of their home and it attracts people from all over the area, hundreds of them, thousands of them to see the light show and then we'll zoom in to a dill little donation box they set up. people put a lot of money in there. generates thousands for the local food bank. last night someone came broke into it and took the money. this is the home that is famously known throughout the area as burlington lights. ron and marie set up this huge light display every holiday season. in fact, take a

listen. >> ♪ >> reporter: that's the "action news" theme music synchronizeed with their life. we featured their home in the past for it. today we're back but for a problem. >> i don't know how you can do it. it's just -- our neighbors are appalled. everybody's in shock. >> reporter: the dismay is over a robbery here. ron and marie started getting random donations for their lights. sheathe set up this money box an food box for the local food pantry a tradition running for the past six years. >> on weekend as we get closer to christmas the donations usually end up being a couple hundred dollars a night. ron thinks they came in way crowbar or something and performed open the lock. you can see some screws still laying on the ground. on the inside you can see they left the coins but took the built. >> it's despicable someone would steal from poor people that need the food. the food pantry needs the money and then they would take it out of the box, break into the box and take away from them. >> reporter: to make this worst burlington township food pantry is counting on the donation every year.

plumber held a security guard and another employee at gunpoint. this robbery happened july 21st, 2014. they got away with more than $181,000. plumber is scheduled to be sentenced on january 6th. evans along with nathaniel greenly and donovan jackson will be sentenced march steve. stretch of road renamed today in memory of a couple who gave back in more ways than one to their communities in wilmington. eighth street between south field street and new castle avenue is now known as charles and naomi smithway. the couple owned seep yap clearance app, sepia cleaners. the smith's were honored posthumously for civic leadership generous hearts and involvement in the community and their church. coming up on "action news tonight ducis rodgers with an eagles injury update after yesterday's loss to the redskins.

muchanic has the story in atlantic city. >> reporter: the gloomy weather matched the mood on the on the boardwalk during the final salute to trooper frankie williams. the 31-year-old egg harbor township resident killed last week on a head-on crash on route 55 in mullica when a driver crossed the median and hit his car head on. today his fellow troopers in law enforcement from as far away from california stood in silent salute as his hearse went by boardwalk hall. >> he was model trooper, model recruit always wanted to be a trooper and to see somebody cut down in one of the most productive wonderful time in their life after being married just two months is more run. williams was on the job less than a year and just married his childhood sweetheart kim in september. his mother victorrial spoke at the funeral saying she was so proud and thankful to share his love. >> we are in the limelight for many, many reasons. flies to come out and show the support we have for one

4 degrees above normal. put in perspective, last december we didn't have one day stuck in the 30's and looks like we could have a couple days stuck in the 20's on thursday and friday. this is future tracker showing thursday morning wind chills single digits in most of our viewing area as low as 7 degrees below zero in the poconos. going to be pretty brutal. right now 46 degrees in philadelphia. it's dried out. trenton 43. cape may 43. reading and allentown 40 degrees and satellite6 along with action radar showing again that system that brought us the rain this morning has moved out. clouds are breaking. so tonight will be a moonlit night. it will be seasonably cold. normal low for this time of the year 31 in philadelphia, we'll hit 32 allentown 26, wilmington 29 and cape may 33. tomorrow we have two systems, low pressure down to the south, a cold front to our west so what this will do is bring us kind of a squeeze play. lots of clouds, could get a snow shower in the poconos. i think most areas will be

dry. it will cool down to 43 degrees. on wednesday, temperatures drop down to 42 degrees, ahead of this arctic front. this could bring us a few flurries late in the day but really the impact will be that it unleashes yes, jim, the polar vortex. right now it's west of the hudson bay. this is really a pool of very cold airport. it will move close to quebec as we head into thursday and what this will do is pull down temperatures only in the 20's and very strong winds. wind gusts up to about 40 miles per hour. so thursday wind chill struggling to hit 10 degrees. think about this weekend and add a few layers on thursday. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, tomorrow we start the day with sun, increasing clouds maybe a snow shower in the poconos. 43 degrees. wednesday pretty quiet ahead of that arctic front, 42 degrees, mixture of sun and clouds. have thursday highlighted thanks to the brutal wind chills, again only up to about 10 degrees, some flurries in the afternoon, 24. friday the temperature drops

top 23 but we do lose the wind. so wind chills generally in the teens not quite as bad as thursday and then friday night and saturday this is when i'm tracking our next storm system t like this morning's storm it will be heading to our west. the problem, though, is that the cold air will be deep and it will be stubborn to leave. so that means it starts as snow, changes over to ice before a gradual changeover to rain later in the day on saturday so we could have treacherous roads on saturday with that ice. monday temps drop down to 34 degrees. really my biggest concern first half of the day on saturday could be very icy. >> thank you cecily. finally catholic school students are making sure that hundreds of children will get gifts this holiday season. for the past several weeks 11 different schools have been collecting toys through the archdiocesan kids helping kids outreach program.
