good afternoon sara bloomquist is off. in the news donald trump has chosen another former campaign rifle for a position in his administration. and a new football coach in town we'll show you his introduction at temple university. and the big story is the frigid accuweather forecast. people were bundled up in ardmore today on this chilly wednesday. but nothing compared to the bitter temperatures and windchills moving in overnight. meteorologist, david murphy, is tracking the latest conditions at the "action news" big board. >> on the big board you see the cold air over the last couple of days, we show you this getting closer and closer to the delaware valley and the darker shade of blue colder air on the doorstep and overnight tonight we see that run into the region and make a difference for us. so it's on the doorstep ahead of it not bad of a september afternoon ahead. we have sunshine in place and

the cloud cover has not had a chance to get close to us. a little below average right now, but not bad for this time of year. 38 in allentown and reading and 40 in cape may. and your winds starting to pick up a bit. this afternoon looks to be a little breezy at times but still okay. and no weather in terms of precipitation to bother you this afternoon. we expected high of 44 around 3:00 and then 42 by 4:00. look at how things change tonight. 8:00 freezing mark and below freezing at 10:00 and we expect to drop down into the 20s by tomorrow morning. it looks like after midnight tonight there could be snow showers that develop. especially on the southern half of the region. from 1:30 to philadelphia to the coast. and then they get off the coast at 3:00 a.m. and maybe 3:30, but that is a concern for light

makes a difference whether this is he said/she said and if the prosecution can paint the picture of a serial sexual predator. this is the second day at the courthouse. bill cosby is accused of drugging and molesting andrea constand at his home in 2004. he urged the court to look for the similarities in the case. not the differences, cosby sought younger women and used fame and status to instill trust even acting towards a mentor to some of them. he would give them drugs and then assault them when they were unable to resist. they said this is his mo, and the prove of one tends to

establish the proof of another. when it was the defense's attorney, he said what is happening is unprecedented and unspeakable. it was not a case about andrea constand but a bunch of claims like a pandora's box. we don't know the date, we don't know the month, it's impossible to defend and some of them happened in places that don't exist anymore. judge o'neil will have to decide if some or none will be able to testify at the time in the spring. they broke for lunch but then they are back to argue. the video shows the moments when a man was murdered execution-style in philadelphia's frankford

section. it happened on the 4700 block of adams avenue. police found 30 spent shell casings around the victim. they do not believe it was a robbery but have yet to release a motive. now they are relying on witness accounts to continue the investigation. a man died when he lost control and hit a tree. it happened at the intersection of 58th street and baltimore avenue at 1:00 this morning. the driver was a man in his 50s and died after he was rushed to the hospital. a new jersey home is heavily damaged from an early morning fire here. the flames broke out on west howard street in clayton. chopper 6 hd was overhead when the flames shot through the roof. and president-elect donald trump continues to fill out his cabinet.

he tapped rick perry as his energy secretary. perry ran for president twice, called it a tremendous honor. he picked him for developing energy resources and infrastructure in texas. meantime trump is meeting with the big players in silicon valley, officials from apple, amazon, intel, microsoft and ibm. they are hoping for a pledge from trump that he won't stifle on innovation while in office. back here what a difference a week makes for temple university. after afounding matt rhule was leaving for another school. the school introduced his replacement this morning. there is lots of excitement on campus following shock and sadness last week. jaime apody is live at temple university where new coach jeff collins was officially introduced to the public this morning.

>> reporter: hi there rick, you are right. different than last week. last week everyone was shocked and depressioned. this is temple's new head football coach from florida. >> it's a whirlwind. i think i have six hours sleep and working on adrenalin and diet mountain dew. the search process was amazing and temple is a great university. i'm waiting to get on the ground running and be the head football coach at temple. >> you got quite a welcome. >> i got a high five from the owl and that was huge, i felt like i was a five star recruit and great to see the energy and enthusiasm that surrounds temple football and i am excited to be a part of it. >> you have your new players. what did you tell them? >> the biggest thing is, the

breaking news now from northeast philadelphia. chopper 6 hd is over the scene of a serious accident here. this is the intersection of adams avenue and wingharken avenue. it happened almost 45 minutes ago and you see a number of emergency vehicles at the scene and traffic brought to a stan still. this roadway is closed off as they assist the injured. we have video we want to show you of some of the people involved in this wreck being put on stretchers and rushed to the hospital. this video was shot again just moments after the "action news" crew arrived here. this is the intersection of

adams avenue in northeast philadelphia. a serious accident here, we know at least one serious injury and that is one victim we are looking at being rushed to the hospital and injured at the scene. we'll follow this story and bring you more information as we get it. a postal worker rushed to save holiday packages from going up in flames, a fire started in a mail truck's engine while making deliveries in north carolina. the driver and a concerned neighbor began pulling the boxes out of the burning vehicle and crews put the fire out in minutes and they are giving all the credit to the mail carrier for saving dozens of christmas gifts and many where amazon deliveries. investigators say new technology may help them with the unsolved murder of 6-year-old jonbenet ramsey. police are looking at more sophisticated dna testing and

that would tap into a federal data base of genetic profiles of 15 million offenders, jonbenet was found dead in the basement of her parents home in 1996. they uncovered flaws in the interpretations of previous dna test snoog . we are learning for details in the death of alan thicke. he cyphered a heart attack playing hockey in burbank, california. the entertainer collapsed but was alert when players took him off the ice and called 911. >> we were worried he was having a heart attack. they took him out and he waived. >> but thicke was later pronounced dead at the hospital. a number of celebrities are paying tribute to the actor known for the lead role on the abc comedy, growing pains and

composed the theme song for the "wheel of fortune" and the facts of life. the relative calm on the streets of aleppo, syria after a cease fire broke down. the deal was to allow the evacuation of rebels and civilians from the eastern section of the city. the russian military says that the forces were observing and the rebels fired. five u.s. crew members survived a crash landing off the japan's coast. all five were rescued after their military plane landed in shallow waters. investigators believe that the plane's propeller was damaged during training and they were all lifted to a navy hospital for treatment. the u.s. is speeding up deployment of troops to poland and the baltic states and

drivers in pennsylvania will pay even more taxes at the pump starting on new years day. an increase of 8 cents per gallon takes place on january 1st. the next increase is the third and final to be implemented by a state law passed in 2013. and the revenue is meant to pay for transportation projects. a drug used to lower cholesterol could lowering the chance of alzheimer's as well. refitchers found that people were 10% less to be diagnosed with alzheimer's if they were exposed to higher levels of statins. with the approaching cold weather people are making sure they have gear to keep them warm

sky 6, there you see rick's favorite spot. you imagine them swooshing and swishing and sunshine out over the slopes and cold air on the way and a couple of chances of snow coming in the exclusive accuweather forecast, as soon as tonight. 42 is your current temperature. not is not a bad day to get things done. chilly but seasonable. winds north-northwest at 17 miles per hour. and current temperatures are in the upper 30s. looks like we are at 43 in millville and lagging behind in cape may with a temperature of 40. sprinkles and light showers overnight and now the clouds vacated the region as we go later in the day a chance of a few more clouds popping up but fairly bright today. partly sunny and cold and a little breezy and coat weather and partly sunny at the shore on the boardwalk this afternoon and a bit breezy.

philadelphia partly sunny and chilly and wind running from the west at 5 to 16 miles per hour. overnight tonight, things do crash, partly cloudy and we have snow showers possible and especially from i-95 south, 23 is the overnight low, and look at how the winds pick up from the west 15 to 25 miles per hour. we are looking at a cold more and more blustery overnight period and after midnight we are on the lookout for a feature coming through that may want to put snow showers philadelphia through wilmington and trenton and points south not all the way down to wildwood but this is the 1:30 in the morning view and the whole thing is done by 4:00 in the morning and if surfaces are not treated a half inch to inch of snow on the ground and slippery road conditions in the morning. tomorrow a whole other set of

problems, 24 is the high and in the afternoon they slide into the low 20s and with the winds continuing 15 to 25 miles per hour gusting as high as 30 to 40 it will feel like the single digits pretty much all the way tomorrow starting early in the morning. 7:00 it may still feel like 12 and all of these 9's and 8's with the winds gusting again and this is tomorrow and that is what it will feel like. friday night into saturday morning. some of region is not getting light snow coming through and in the northern suburbs, a couple of inches on the ground by the thyme they are done and it appears that there is icing and mixing in philadelphia and not a lot and rain to the south and into saturday morning the possibility of some freezeups on some roads and snow around especially in the northern half of the region before a change over to rain. 44 and partly sunny not bad during the day but a frigid night. 23 is theover night low.

and thursday a bitter wind making it feel no better than 10, and a high of 24. another snow shower not out of the question on thursday. and friday night is windy and cold and high of 26. overnight friday night in through saturday, a chance of snow changing briefly to ice and rain and more rain on sunday and a high of 57 will feel a lot better. >> yes, it will. santa paws and a whole lot of helpers are out in full force in conshohocken. they showed up at the montgomery county spca to provide a wonderful annual meal, they support the spca and their efforts to find forever homes for all the doggies and kitties and bunny rabbits, until that happens today was a special treat to make the holiday a bit happier for mans best friend.
