race for the white house. and armed robbers strike at temple university housing. what they stole from students this morning. and the big story is bitter cold and biting wind. >> and light snow coming down including here in norristown and temperatures are stuck in the 20s and making it feel even worse, and heavy gear is a must. david murphy is tracking the deep freeze in the accuweather forecast. >> you definitely need the extra gear if you are outside for an extended period of time. and we are on the lookout for snow squalls and right fow stormtracker 6 live double scan is not showing a lot of that but a burst of snow moving down in the direction of allentown and bethlehem, pennsylvania. up north an area to watch. if you get caught in a snow squall it could put down a quick half inch of snow than could get roads going south in a hurry.

if you see that be careful. wide view on satellite shows a fair amount of sunshine and now clouds mixing in and as we go through the afternoon it looks like a clouds and sun mix. 24 degrees the temperatures are steadily dropping since before down when we were in the upper 30s. and 21 in reading and the colder air coming in from the west where you see the lower numbers and the windchill of course, is big time. 7 is what is feels like if philadelphia and 8 in wilmington and just 2 degrees on your windchill chart in reading. another reason to bundle up and because of the strong winds, gusts up over 30 in philadelphia and close to 40 in the city and a 44 miles per hour gust now in wilmington. future tracker 6 shows you where temperatures are going the rest of the way up to 6, and down we'll probably be in the upper teen by dinner time and later tonight if you have plans to go

out. it gets worse 17 degree windchill by 7:30. when i step inside things get better tomorrow it's still cold but the winds are not quite as bad and we watch the radar for snow friday night into saturday. >> watch the radar and let us know david. thank you. lets switch live to "action news" reporter, annie mccormick, bundled up braving the conditions in pennsauken, new jersey, this morning. >> it's the wind that is making all the difference. these are the strongest wind gusts so far all day but look at the ground here, the snow we saw, the first glimpse of snow so far this year or the fall rather, this is all that is left in pennsauken. >> it's bitter, bitter cold. but you just dress warmer. >> sounds easy enough, the bitter cold has not been here too long but long enough to feel

it outside of the haddonfield station. >> i like the cold this is kind of fun. >> here train and new jersey transit bus riders are practical. >> i have thermals and gloves in the back and i'm prepared. it's really cold as long as you have layers you'll be all right. >> i have a new coat too and it's pretty warm. >> students walking to school in cherry hill and dogs taking a stroll felt the front roll in as temperatures dropped throughout the morning and at the same time gusts grew stronger. people outside are prepared. >> i do construction work and i guess i'm used to it. >> in norristown it made for a picture perfect postcard. roads like 70 and 38 were pretreated with salt to make the morning commute easier as the

the arctic blast. you'll find everything you need and remember our meteorologists post regular updates on social media follow them on twitter and facebook for the very late effort. police are searching for armed robbers that stole computers from temple university housing. they took laptops and other items from north 10th street at 5:00 this morning. the home is on university property but it is unclear if all the residents are students, no one was hurt. a philadelphia high school student has been taken into custody after police found a handgun in his backpack. officials discovered the weapon this morning when the teenager arrived at the randolph career academy in hunting park. >> he went through the scanning process and the school discovered the weapon. they secured the weapon and secured the student and the philadelphia police were called and the school was placed in lockdown. >> police seized the gun and

searched the building for other weapons. but that was lifted after the search came up empty. >> delaware health officials are announcing the first flu death of the season. they are planning to release more information about the victim today. hopefully this is a reminder to get a flu shot. cases are confirmed in delaware. now to the latest on the white house transition. donald trump continues to fill out his future administration and denying new claims about russian interference in the election. karen travers is standing by with more. >> good afternoon rick, president-elect donald trump has indicated is he not convinced that russia played a role in the hacking despite the conclusions of more than a dozen intelligence agencies in the u.s. who will donald trump believe

when he takes office the cia or the kremlin when he takes office next month. >> officials tell abc news that russian president, vladimir putin was directly involved in the hackinger the democratic committee. to interfere with the presidential election. a spokesperson from putin says it's funny none exception and brushed off reports that russia was involved. if russia or some other entity was hacking why did the white house wait so long to act why only complain after hillary lost. >> it has sparked a public battle with the white house and the trump transition team. >> the republican nominee himself calling on russia to hack his opponent. it may be an indication that he was obviously aware and concluded based on whatever facts or sources he had availableable to him that russia was involved.

but don't want to live through it. stormtracker 6 live double scan shows you that we are mainly dry and on the lookout on radar for a little puff of snow every now and then that could result in a snow squall, one of those near bethlehem right now. they don't last long but can put down quick hitting snow where your roads freeze up. another one down by new hope and one by boyer town and green lane. it doesn't take long for those no get on through but slow it down if stuff hits the roads. we have the art museum and some sunshine today not that that is helping at all. it's bitterly cold. 23 in philadelphia and the winds out of the west northwest at 28 miles per hour. that is the sustained wind and we are getting gusts up above 40 miles per hour at times as we go through the mid-day and afternoon hours, it will be rather blustery tonight. as you look at these numbers, strong winds and single digit

windchills. 19 on the thermometer in allentown and 21 in reading and 24 in philadelphia and 25 in millville. even without wind this could be uncomfortable cold but with the wind blowing it feels worse like the single digits. the model picking up a couple of these here and there and not it's situation where everyone sees them but if you do you slow it down. lehigh valley forecast sun mixing with clouds and windy and cold and a high -- i'm going to give you numbers where we settle. the highs are actually quite a bit above this. they were back behind this. and about 19 more or less in allentown today. and sitting close to 24 down the shore. cold winds again. and philadelphia sitting on or about 23 and sliding to 20 by dinner time. winds gusting over 40 at times and these are the projected windchills the rest of the way

and up north worse than this. may feel like 9 and you'll see how things aren't changing through the rest of the afternoon and evening and overnight hours. overnight tonight it gets colder, 15 degrees in philadelphia and down to 10 in suburbs, with winds still blustery, the winds die down a bit tomorrow. as we go into tomorrow afternoon and evening it's going to be cold as you start out and we are on the lookout for a warm front pushing closer to us into night and this produces snow initially in that colder air. and we expect an eventually change over to rain. the model has most snow hanging to the north of philadelphia. i think in the overnight hours on saturday, we may get some sweeping down briefly in parts of south jersey and philadelphia. and by saturday morning at 7:00 warm air pushing up and changing us to rain in the city and a change over to rain up into allentown in the morning, the problem with this is that as we

see that rain coming in and changing over the snow, it may still be cold enough on the ground to support icing on it's roads. if you are out driving around on saturday morning and see that change over to rain, still take it slow and cautious as there could be icing. 23 degrees is today's high bitter wind making it feel like 9 and snow at night into saturday morning and gradually snow and sleet and freezing rain and finally rain in the afternoon. and all the way up to 60 or so on sunday. and back in the 30s on monday and tuesday. >> thank you. quick break and more news when we come right back.
