the hardware store. it's friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is the tristate area bracing for snow, ice, freezing rain for sure an unpleasant trifecta. live at the big born, cecily tynan with the news story. >> jim, snow is moving in right now. it's ver e evaporating before hg the surface. as we hit the overnight hours, moisture takes over creating the first snow. looking at the temperatures right now, we are for the most part in the 20s. it's cold enough for snow at the onset. the system is pulling in a lot of warm air changing snow from the south to the north. we are across the board in winter weather advisories into saturday expiring from the south to the north as we head through the morning.

future tracker showing by 5:00 in the morning, we have significant snow fall across the viewing area. the exception along the shore where we see the rain. the surge of warm air will change snow over to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain around philadelphia by 8:00, snow across the lehigh valley, heavy rain south jersey and delaware working up to the north. the problem, when you see it raining tomorrow morning heavily, after two days of temperatures in the 20s, the ground will be frozen, so a lot will be frozen rain, accumulating rain more than a tenth of an inch, near the philadelphia turnpike and closer to philadelphia. we talk more about that with snow totals in the full forecast. >> penn dot crews will begin the battle again the storm. earlier today they were loading salt trucks and hitting area

>> we have better news for those in german town without heat last night. we are delighted to have helped out. dann cuellar is live on the 200 block of church lane. what's the story there? >> our story got the attention of some officials who took decisive action to remedy the potentially dangerous situation here. >> this is such a blessing. >> grateful residents as the crews arrived to restore gas heat to the apartment building on the 200 block of church lane. >> that's super. >> as we reported ppw shut off the gas in april after the owner consistently failed to pay for gas. the outstanding bill reached almost $60,000. the 20 residents who live here were able to get by until it was bitterly cold last night.

residents are warm again. i'm dann cuellar, channel6 "action news." >> good job, dan. two pedestrians are being treated at the hospital after being struck by a car. the accident happened at millville, east broad and north second street. the driver did stop. no word on whether charges will be filed. numerous vehicles responded to a fire at the holiday inn near the parks casino where a fire started in the kitchen two hours ago. the sprinkler system activated and extinguished the blaze. some guests were stuck in elevators. firefighters got them out. >> a ten-year-old boy was caught in a fire in a home this

morning. a man inside the home escaped, by the boy neighbors say was the man's son didn't make it out. high winds pushed the flames to three other homes leaving ten people without a place to live. no word on a cause. three bucks county officials were arrested and charged in a money laundering scheme. they appeared in court in philadelphia. judge john waltman, director of safety robert hoops and constable rafferty were accused of lawnd iring $400,000 in cash. from the news room, the city of wilmington will pay $400,000 to settle a police shooting. a man was in his wheelchair when officers confronted him in 2013. he refused to put his hands up.

none of the four officers were charged but a scathing report recommended changes to police procedures on deescalations. the city and its officers are not admitting wrong doing in the settlement. >> president obama threatened to use cyber muscle against russia for interference in the american election. he made it clear he thought the russian president himself was involved in the hacking of dnc and clinton h campaign e-mails. in obama's words, not much happens in russia without knowledge of putin. >> i felt the most effective way to ensure that didn't happen was to talk to him directly, and tell him to cut it out or there would be serious consequences if

he didn't. we did not see further tampering of the election process, but the leak through wikileaks occurred. >> obama reframed from criticizing donald trump although donald trump rejected the assessment that russia interfered to help trump. >> president obama brought his thank you tour to the state of florida tonight. he said, for too long we have been moving from one wreckless intervention to another. he said it's crazy, and it's going to stop. trump vowed to keep radical islamist terrorists out of country and talked about building infrastructure here. he has his final stop tomorrow in alabama and then off for the

>> police officers are the ones doing the singing tonight on the streets of philadelphia. these 14th district cop carolers singing in german town. the cold didn't stop them from singing their hearts out and putting people in a festive mood. officers from the 24th district took youngsters for a shopping spree in port richmond tonight, helping them pick out toys as part of the christmas gifts from guardians program to make sure children in need have a happy holiday. >> a couple from hat boro are going into the year with new help despite a desperate medical situation facing their daughter. jeff cherco has their story. >> molly duffy is adorable.

the toddler lives with an extremely rare disease called heredity spastic or spg47 which causes delays in physical function like talking and walking. the diagnosis came last year. >> we were devastated. not having information, we didn't know where to turn or who to talk to. >> we were told there are seven documented cases and not in the united states. it's an island. you are the only one. >> no cure and no active research. kevin and angela duffy tried to be hopeful. they learned about robby edwards from massachusetts, a three-year-old with the same condition. they connected on facebook and met last month in boston where the girls both receive treatment at the boston hospital. >> there was someone else, and they are in boston.

>> the united states is demanding china return an unmanned under water drone. sailors from a china ship stole it yesterday as they were heading to pick it up near the philippines. it was a research ship studying things like water temperature and saline content and the drone is not classified technology, so officials are not sure why china took it. some are calling it a political coupe in the state of

carolina. republicans seem to have accepted they lost to democrat pat m mccrory by ten votes but they approved bills to strip him of much of his power. said a democratic lawmaker, i have fear we have harmed our integrity. deadly drug overdoses have spiked 33% in america over the last five years, in some areas 200%. the cdc says urgent action is needed. deaths from fentanyl are rising faster. drug overdosedoses killed more americans than car crashes and suicides. >> a plan to speed up train travel in the next 30 years will
