you, we told you this would happen, snow fell across parts of the region overnight. this is the beginning of a winter storm that will bring ice and rain before it is all over. this morning we have live team coverage of our wintry mix. meteorologist chris sowers tracking the slick conditions. "action news" reporter, bob brooks is out in the elements. let's begin with chris sowers. >> reporter: the snowfall totals

will be probably a coating maybe some areas see an inch. you get into the lehigh valley, one to three. generally speaking this is a glancing blow. there are slick spots out there, temperatures below freezing, whatever is falling it will stick. you look at the big picture, impaired to what's going on across the country. this is like a slap on the wrist. we'll go to the wider view, the moisture is spreading in west to east. there's a lot of color on the map. the white represents the snow, the blue the icy mix where we're seeing a combination of snow, sleet and freezing rain. the greens and yellows and red represents where we're seeing plain rain. that's picking up down the jersey shore. again the winds are starting to shift out of the southeast, ocean temperatures are in the 40s this is all mild air streaming in orderward. all -- northward. millville seeing and icy mix.

mays landing, hammonton an icy mix. some aerials are picking up the sleet pellets, others seeing the freezing rain. the line has pushed through south philadelphia. northeast looks like it's still snowing. western portions of the county snowing there, as well. jenkintown, norristown coming down at a good clip. berlin, glassboro, woodbury seeing the mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain. farther to the north we go, lehigh valley, snowing moderately. kutztown in the snow band. fleetwood, same thing. quakertown, boyers town reporting moderate to heavy snow. that rain line will lift north as temperature progress. warrington, 22. vineland, 28 degrees, when i come back in just a few minutes, i'll take a look at future tracker 6. we'll show you when you change

over to ice and rain, i'll have the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. gray. >> look forward to it, criminals, look at this here, holiday decorations look festive with the light snow falling overnight. the action cam was in collingswood, early this morning, as the snow covered haddon avenue. as chris mentioned this will not last. bob brooks joins us live from king of prussia, montgomery with a look at the conditions at this hour, bob. >> reporter: gray, good morning it is cold out and the snow is coming down. it's getting nasty on the roads. i can tell you on the way out to king of prussia, the highway was starting to cover up pretty well. there was a nice layer, i should not say nice, it's not nice, but a layer of snow was building. i saw a car stuck and had their flashers on. things can get dangerous pretty quick.

we're at mall boulevard. you can see that's the scene we have out here. we have plow truck after plow truck coming by to clear the roads. the problem is, it's coming down so quick, so fast, it's a nasty mix at this point, i don't know what it is, it's like a mixture of snow/rain/slush excuse me. it's making tough for plow trucks to keep the roads to that will he clear. we spoke to an official from penndot they said they have 340 trucks throughout the area. brine was dumped on the roads last night. tons of salt dumped on the roads last night as preventive measures. it's coming down so quick, it's so cold and a nasty mix of what we're seeing it's hard to keep things totally clear. now, the one word i was given by word officials when i was doing storm prep stories yesterday,

was patience. give them lots of time to get the roads clear as the precipitation comes down. they will be working all morning to get the roads clear. they do ask if you can avoid driving this morning at all costs. it might get dangerous. i did see that this morning, someone spun out on the schuylkill expressway this morning coming out here. >> the flakes are falling in hatboro, montgomery county. there you see some of them stuck to the grass, as you can see the roads were prepped ahead time. not a lot sticking to the roads there. still it's enough to require drivers as bob was saying to take extra precaution and avoid the slick spots. warminster, bucks county, this is street road and york road where you can see snow coming down there, there's reports of freezing rain, in that area the cars are moving quite slow as is

they should be. this is warminster, pennsylvania, the snow will be turning into rain. there will be no need to break out the shovels at the jersey shore. the wet boardwalk in atlantic city. the action cam caught people braving the elements early this morning. parkside section. shots were fired in the parking lot in the a-plus mini mart lancaster avenue 1:15 a.m. the man was shot several times. he is in critical condition. there's no word on what led to the shooting or any arrests were made. about to two people were rushed to the hospital after they were hit by a car in cumberland county. chopper 6 hd over the scene at the intersection of east broad and north second street. both victims were taken to cooper university hospital. police say the driver stopped after the accident. no word yet if that person will face any charges. a woman who stole a baby jesus from a nativity scene in bethlehem and took it to the hospital said this was a joke. jaqulyn ross said baby was neglected by his parents who she called joseph and mary christ. is she went to the hospital

after stealing the 2700 figure figurene. she was charged with theft and vandalism. we showed you this piece of surveillance video that man spotted taking packages off a front step. inside the packages were coats to be donated to kids in need. daniel chevy was devastated and worried should not meet the goal of collecting coats for the children. >> philadelphia is the city of brotherly love. i think sometimes we get a bad rap. there are people in need and people step up to help. we have a lot of love to give in philly. >> thanks to every answer generosity, she has collected twice as many coats as she planned. the suspect was arrested a day after our story aired. the cars of the future they are almost here and some believe

by 11:00, with the exception of the poconos is over to a cold rain. here's the good news, today is not a complete wash. by midday a lot of is off the coast. we're looking at mainly cloudy conditions right through 2, 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., this afternoon. what will happen the fog will start to settle in areas that see the snow on the ground. all areas north and west, it will become very foggy, because as the temperatures jump above freezing we'll see the snow melting and visibility will be reduced in the lehigh valley. after 3:00 p.m., the visibility disappears you'll not see anything up through here. fast forward into sunday starting out with clouds, here comes the cold front rain increases by midday, sunday looks like a pretty miserable day, as well. the arctic air comes back in sunday night into monday. snowfall totals looks like, nothing across south jersey, perhaps a coating to an inch for philadelphia. 1 to 3:00 p.m. that's the

general idea north and west, 3 to 5 for the poconos. 1 to 3 for places like pottstown and allentown. 3 to 5 north of allentown into the poconos where they will see ice north and west of the pennsylvania turnpike, untreated surfaces will quickly become slippery during the late morning hours. snow and ice and rain for philadelphia. once temperatures jump above freezing everything should start melting. 44 degrees comes around 10:00 p.m. most of the time we're in the. rain and drizzle redevelops overnight after midnight. watch out for the patchy fog. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, all the way up to 60 degrees tomorrow morning. it will feel fantastic before the arctic front punches through late in the day. temperatures during the evening are down into the mid 30s. 34 monday, 39 for tuesday. and winter begins on wednesday with a high of 45 degrees.

"action news" reporter, bob brooks is live in king of prussia montgomery county. bob, how are conditions where you are? >> reporter: gray, good morning, they are getting bad out. as the snow continues to fall. i was listening to chris, it's becoming a rain mixture. things are starting to freeze up, i'll show you that in a second. this is what we're looking at for road conditions in king of prussia. by the minute it gets colder. the wetness on the roads is starting to freeze up. it's starting to get bad, i caution people if you have to drive do so with caution. i want to bring you the video, this is upper darby, you can see the snow just a little bit ago was coming down fast. the crews can only keep up with so much when it is like that. penndot said they dispatched 340

lying on the sidewalk both had burns and cuts and bruises from the fall. they are in the hospital this morning. no word on what caused the fire. emergency crews responded to a hotel in bensalem after a fire was reported in the kitchen. firefighters rushed to holiday inn on street road. the hotel sprinkler system put out some of the flames. no injuries, but there were frightening moments for hotel guests that got stuck in in elevators. p government -- pgw shut off the gas at a apartment in april. they had a balance of $60,000. councilwoman cindy bass saw our show and she reached out to get

>> reporter: we'll get it on a weekend. we'll get you outside and start you with a shot of the philadelphia international airport. it was snowing an hour ago, but now we have turned over to freezing rain. temperatures are sitting very close to the freezing mark. remember what freezing rain is, when you look out your window it's actually raining. balls the ground is freezing and cold, that rain is freezing on contact with the ground creating a sheet of ice everywhere. that's what we're dealing with right now in all areas shaded in that blue. you can see how far the freezing line is, the freezing rain. this is up in the lehigh valley. just north of the pennsylvania turnpike it switches over to freezing rain. all interior sections of south jersey and the state of delaware you have flipped over to freezing rain. we've zoomed into the southern portion of the viewing areas first. delaware bay area, above freezing. plain rain along the immediate coast, plain rain.

the wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain now most of new jersey and getting into philadelphia and areas pretty close to the pennsylvania turnpike. let's go a little bit farther to the north. there is the pennsylvania turnpike stretching through norristown, south of reading. snowing in quakertown, allentown and milford. even there you will start to switch over from snow to freezing rain in the next half-hour, 45 minutes or so. temperatures are cold, now, again i know it's kind of deceiving, you're thinking we're so far below freezing why is it raining? the reason for that, again, you get a couple of thousand feet aloft, a couple of thousand feet up, temperatures are below freezing. once the snowflakes falls it hits the milder air and freezing on contact 22 with the colder ground. warrington 30 degrees. gandys beach, 32. glassboro, 30.
