you, we are under a winter storm advisory this morning. you'll see snow and freezing rain. that is creating slick conditions out there on the roads. we have live team coverage of our wintry weather mix. chris sowers is tracking the slick conditions, bob brooks is out in the elements in the suburbs. we'll begin with chris sowers at the "action news" big board for the latest. busy morning, chris. >> reporter: busy morning, i want to show you what's going on. this is taking place across the large portion of the viewing area. we're no longer seeing snow in the lehigh valley, just ice pellets and freezing rain. this is was sent in to my twitter account. this is a cover of the grill it's a sheet of ice. it's raining and the rain freezes on contact with the

grounds and grill covers and everything else, because temperatures are so unbelievably cold. he is this in the rain is freezing on contact with the cold ground. for the -- fortescue you're seeing cold rain, areas west of atlantic city, atlantic city expressway around the toll plaza. you go farther to the northwest we're picking up snow north of the pennsylvania turnpike. an icy mix for pottstown, boyertown and green lane, snowing in quakertown and allentown and the poconos, temperatures are way down. 24 degrees in slatington. 22 in quakertown. saint davids. 27. center city up to 30 degrees, all locations are below

freezing. the freezing mark is 32. gandys beach, 32. cinnaminson, 27. the villas, 37 you'll top out in the 50s and hammonton, 29 degrees. the timeline looks like we are switching things over from snow to an icy mix now. eventually going over to rain by mid morning. during the afternoon hours we catch a break or a lull in the action that's when the dense fog settles in. look at sunday, we get ahead of an approaching cold front, temperatures in the 60s in the morning and crashes into the 30s and 40s in the afternoon. i'll be back with the snowfall totals and the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> we look forward to it. holiday decorations look more festive with the snow falling as you see there. action cam was in camden county this morning, as the snow was covering haddon avenue. but it's not going to last.

bob brooks engines us live from king of prussia in montgomery county. hi bob. >> reporter: things getting slick, that freezing rain is starting to fall. i'm going to pick up some of the snow that's come down. with the freezing rain you can see how it crumbles a part. it's part ice at this point. the roads are getting slick. this is what crews were worried about. this is off mall boulevard. the snow was coming down, it's mixing with freezing rain. the temperature are so cold, the roads are slick, you're asked to use extreme caution if you have to drive. i want to bring up video here, this is upper darby, this is what it was early this morning, lots of snow when it was coming down so quick. crews i know they are working hard, it's hard to keep the roads clear when you're seeing so much falling at such a fast pace. penndot has 340 trucks

throughout the area dispatched. they are working as hard as they can. we spoke with other people this morning, a new cab driver new to his job was scared about the storm. >> i am a new cab driver, this is my first snow driving a cab, it's pretty scary. >> reporter: okay be back out live. i want to show everyone, this is a good indicator, this is the box we use to hear the show. that's the ice and freezing rain hits our equipment here and freezes almost immediately. so, again, the freezing rain is out here in king of prussia. that's going to make roads slick, so everyone needs to be careful morning if they hit the roads, gray. >> thank you a good demonstration. thanks for the reporting out there. flakes were falling in hatboro, montgomery county. the roads were prepped ahead of

this morning, a -- tell you about this morning, a man was critically injured in the parkside section overnight. shots were fired in the a-plus mini mart 52 and lancaster avenue at 1:15 a.m. detectives say the man was shot several times. we are told he is in critical condition. no words on what led to the shooting or if any arrests were made. there's uplifting end to the package theft in northern liberties. we showed you this surveillance video of that man spotted taking packages off the front step. inside the packages were coats to be donated to kids in need. danielle was worried she would not meet her goal to collect 50 coats for the children at gw school. >> philadelphia is the city of brotherly love, i think you can see where there are people in need people step up to help. we have a lot of love to give in

philly. >> a lot of of love. we thank you for the love. thanks to everyone's generosity she has collected twice as many coats. the suspect was arrested after the story aired. a montgomery family is heading into the new year with new hope despite their daughter's desperate medical condition. jeff chirico shares their story. >> reporter: like most 3-year-olds molly duffy of hatboro is active and adorable. but she lives with an extremely rare disease called spg47 which causes delays in cognitive and physical function like talking and walking. the diagnosis came last year. >> we were devastated and not having information we didn't know where to turn. we didn't have anyone to talk to. >> we were told there are 7 medically documented cases and none of them in the yieltdz. you're the only one.

>> reporter: no cure and no active research, kevin and angela tried to remain hopeful. it was easier when they learned about robby edwards of massachusetts a 3-year-old with the same condition. their parents connected on a facebook support group and met last year face-to-face where the girls received treatment at boston hospital. >> our hearts started racing, there's someone else and they are in boston. it change our outlook. >> even though caring for molly can be a full time job, the duffys have started a nonprofit organization to raise awareness and find a cure for fpg47. >> there are gene therapies that are on the horizon that show promise that will stop the progression. >> reporter: until then, they hope that spreading the word about fpg47 will help diagnosis

temperatures will sink like a stone. 20 inches of snow fell on the city of billings. they have not seen numbers like this in nearly 40 years. parts of southern montana could see temperatures fall to negative 20 this morning. the windchill negative 40. chris do you still love the cold tell me no. >> reporter: the cold not so much, but the views. gray loves that snow, let me tell you. at least you can track and get footing on snow, when we're we're dealing with freezing rain everything becomes an ice rink. especially anything untreated it become slippery and dangerous. that's what we're seeing taking place now. the lone exception to the rule is along the ocean front, cape may, avalon, stone harbor, those areas there, you have gone over

to plain rain, it's a cold rain, but temperatures are above the freezing mark. everybody else you see that shade of blue that's freezing rain. when you look out the window, appears as if it is raining. the ground is blowing freezing as the rain continues to fall it freezes on contact. glassboro, freezing rain. hammonton, freezing rain. millville, as well. mays landing. freezing rain. middletown, smyrna seeing freezing rain. the freezing rain extends all the way up into quakertown. you're seeing the changeover across the far northwestern suburbs. allentown and bethlehem, the poconos, the chainover line will add -- changeover line will advance to the north. even though the temperatures are in the mid 20s it will appear it's raining in the next are 45

after 1:00 p.m. it's dry, with maybe patchy drizzle and dense fog starting to settle in north and west of philadelphia. and then we get into sunday, temperatures spike into the 50s and 60s and all this washes away very, very quickly and melts. and then we see more rain move in with an approaching cold front. front end snow, basically from allentown south, the snow has ended. the snow on the ground is all you'll get with this system. a coating across south jersey. 3 to 5 for the poconos. now the big concern has switched from snow to sleet to freezing rain. icing concerns, mainly i-95 and areas north and west. south jersey you're seeing it, as well. all untreated surfaces becoming a sheet of ice. very slippery travel conditions, be very careful over the next couple of hours. sunday's breakdown looks like.

rain. meteorologist chris sowers is here he has been tracking all this with the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. chris, thankfully just a morning event. >> reporter: you were saying it looks like a winter wonderland. looks like an ice rink out there. i don't say this very often, honestly if you don't have to go out this morning, don't stay home wait until the temperatures climb above freezing and start running your errands. i would wait at least until 10:00 a.m. before i left the house. that's how bad the roads are right now. you have to remember the road crews can't drop the brine on every single road of every development across the viewing area. the back roads are a complete mess. we're seeing the freezing rain and dense fog settle in. it's a miserable morning around the delaware and lehigh valleys. you're looking at the colors, the green representing the rain, the white the snow, the blue shade is where we're picking up the mixture of snow, sleet and freeing rain. a lot of is freezing rain at

i've sort of been digging around. this is ice, that's stuff, i can't bust through and i've been working at this right here. look at that, breaking off in chunks. that's snow that turned to ice at this point. this is the road condition off mall boulevard. keep this in mind next to king of prussia mall if you're coming out to get last-minute christmas shopping done you'll be facing that. be careful. we have slush, freezing rain and snow earlier making for a nasty mix. i want to bring up video from earlier this morning. this is the timetable of what we've seen, heavy snow coming down in upper darby. crews prepared all day yesterday for this, there's only so much you can do when you have so much snow coming down so quick. penndot says they have 340 trucks dispatched throughout the area. city of philadelphia officials said they have 70 trucks ready to go, 50,000 tons of salt at

their disposal. again, when you're fighting freezing rain it gets tough. drivers we spoke with this morning say they are up for the challenge. >> in the snowstorm we do 12 hours on and four hours rest and 12 hours back on. >> we prepped seven trucks for salt and plows, we're ready for a foot, regardless of whether we get -- >> reporter: make the roads safe. >> that's it, make the roads safe. >> reporter: glad to hear they are up to the task. i have seen plow trucks all morning doing a great job working hard. i've been doing this all morning in between each shot this is the box we use to hear the show so i can hear it in my ear. you see the ice coming off there. some of the rain has frozen. again, like criminals -- chris said, as soon as it makes contact, it freezes.

a few cars spotted on the roads only saw a dusting. you can keep track of the storm as it moves through the area this morning. head to 6abc.com/weather, there you will find the seven-day forecast and get a live look storm tracker 6 live double scan radar and a whole lot more. 7. 7:37 new this morning, a mother and child jumped from a second floor window to escape their, but home in west philadelphia. the fire started on north 61st street around midnight. crews arrived to flames shooting from the home and the woman and her son lying on the sidewalk. they are in the mom. no word on what caused the fire. the heat finally back on at the apartments on east church lane in germantown. pgw shut off the gas in april. the property owner failed to pay the gas bill and has an outstanding balance of $60,000.

starting out with a view of spring mountain in montgomery county. we've switched over from snow where it was coming down heavily. we're seeing the freezing rain. you pick up a coating to a half inch of snow maybe a little bit more. now we're seeing a coating of ice on top. now, this was sent into me by peter. take a look at the scene here, these are the back roads of williams town, this is all ice. everything right now, the sidewalks, the roads, you can see all the ice that has accumulated on the back roads. as i mentioned earlier if you don't have to go out, don't unless it's an absolute emergency. example if you have to go to the gym this morning, hold off a couple of hours until all this changes over to an icy cold rain which is going to happen within

glassboro, 31. at the freezing mark in gandys beach and vineland. later this afternoon, the late morning hours you can see the philadelphia area looks like you're in the clear changing over to a cold rain, icing north and west, snowing in the poconos. by 11:00 a.m. it's a cold rain for everybody. we've got the temperatures finally above freezing at that point. the exception being probably let's say allentown and the poconos. looks like the precipitation is actually going to take a break by midday. through the first part of the afternoon there could be leftover showers. the majority of the afternoon is dry, damp, nothing falling maybe patchy drizzle not a big deal. temperatures at that point are finally above the freezing mark. so the next few hours, this is for everybody except the jersey shore, dangerous conditions setting up, a lot of untreated roadways are a sheet of ice, parking lots, sidewalks, very, very dangerous stuff.
