it's turned over to rain. let's make a couple of zooms, the first stop will take it into south jersey where they are starting to switch over to plain rain now. that's in cumberland and salem counties in the southern portions at that. most of south jersey picking up the freezing rain. glassboro, a sheet of ice. medford lakes, a sheet of ice. to the north, where you picked up a coating to an inch of snow you, too, have gone over to the lehigh valley. lehigh valley sheet of ice. pottstown, sheet of ice. outside town, fleetwood, everything untreated has chaipghtd over -- changed over to a sheet of ice. aloft temperatures are above freezing that's why appear also it is raining. when the rain hits the surface, surface temperatures are well below the freezing mark of 32. 27 in quakertown, 28 in warrington. freezing mark, 32 for center city.

gloucester county earlier this morning. the snow coated parking lots near the deptford mall. looks like a picture-perfect post postcard in collingswood camden county. snow covered sidewalks and streets along haddon avenue. bob brooks is watching conditions near a shopping destination. >> he is live in king of prussia near the mall which is so busy this time of the year. bob what is it looking like? >> reporter: chris was talking about a sheet of ice, standings on the sidewalk we had snow in the morning and now freezing rain and take a look, the sheet of ice is happening right here. you can see on the sidewalk here it's forming all over the place, making things dangerous for drivers on the road this morning. if you're out there, please be safe. at first it started to snow in upper darby it was falling fast on city line avenue in philadelphia, too, it was coming down all over the delaware valley.

road crews were out in full force. early this morning drivers were ready and eager to get out and keep your roads clear. in a snowstorm we do 12 hours, four hours rest, 12 hours back on. >> prepped about 7 trucks for salt, plows, everything is ready to go we're ready for a foot regardless of what we get. >> reporter: make the roads safe. >> that's it. make the roads safe. >> reporter: the snow changed to freezing rain. sure enough around 7:00 a.m., freezing rain started sticking to everything. city of philadelphia officials say they took action yesterday in preparation for it. 70 trucks were filled with salt. they have 50,000 tons of salt at their disposal. penndot said they were ready to deploy 340 trucks throughout the area. with freezing rain there's only so much you can do. one thing you should not do is drive. if you have to hit the roads,

fire started at municipal drive at 5:40 a.m. the building stores equipment for public works employees. there were no reports of any injuries. a mother and her child were hurt by a late-night fire in west philadelphia. the flames forced them to take some desperate measures. they jumped from their burning home on the 1400 block of north 61st street. crews found the woman and her 4-year-old son lying on the sidewalk. both had burns and cuts and bruises from the fall. they are being treat the this morning at the hospital. from the delaware newsroom there's a settlement of the fatal shooting of a man in a wheelchair by police. the city will pay $1.5 million to the family of 28-year-old mcdole. police say he was reaching for a gun and refused to put his hands

shades that are starting to creep further and further to the north. they are getting into most of south jersey, dealing with a lot of ice, at least the rain line is creeping farther to the north. we'll put and end to the ice. bridgeton, gandys beach, the money island area you have switch over to cold rain. millville you're on the edge. mall can a, elmer and buena, you can see the blue color here, that's the freezing rain where temperatures are below freezing, hammonton, as well as mays landing, tuckahoe and egg harbor reporting freezing rain as temperatures are below 32 degrees. where the numbers are colder it's a skating rink everywhere from pottstown, allentown and easton. doylestown and coatsville, lancaster, everybody out here reporting freezing rain this morning. and we have still have several hours of this to go. that's temperatures at the surface are well below freezing.

aloft we're climbing above freezing that's why it looks like it's raining out there. at the surface it's cold, 27 in pottstown, 27 in quakertown. saint davids, 31. center city, 32. levittown, checking in at 31 degrees. 31 is the number at glassboro, vineland freezing 32. that's the number right there, we need to get above 32 degrees to start melting the ice. villas, 32 degrees and hammonton, 32 degrees. future tracker 6, the morning hours and lunchtime and beyond everything flips over to rain. most of the afternoon after we get this batch out of here, most of the afternoon is cloudy with dense fog settling in north and west of philadelphia before you pick up snow before it changes over to ice. temperatures get above freezing you start to melt the snow and we get thick fog.

>> reporter: jeanette and gray, the icy mess is happening right here. here's the sidewalk, i'll continue to show you guys, this is what its become almost a quarter inch layer of ice what the snow has turned into, the freezing rain. i want to show everyone we've been out here since early this morning 5:00 a.m., it's the "action news" van, got icicles all over the front of it. that's what the freezing rain is doing to everything it touches out here right now. i want to bring up video and everyone take a look. this is what the series of events were to get us to this point. this is the heavy snow that was falling early this morning. this is upper darby falling at a quick pace, crews were out there and they were prepared. they did lots of preparations dumping salt yesterday on the road when it's falling that fast and you add on freezing rain on top of it makes a very tough issue. you're advised not to drive if you don't have to, if you do

it was a quiet and snowy scene this is reading berks county overnight. the winds made it hard for much of the snow to stick near penn and north 7th street. >> the action cam caught snow falling in hatboro, montgomery county overnight. you can see it stuck to the grass and coated the sidewalks, but as you can see crews prepped the roads ahead of time keeping them clear for drivers. well, the "action news" cam was in absecon, atlantic county overnight. this was along new jersey avenue where snow left the streets and sidewalks lightly coated. a few cars that were on the roads saw a dusting, as well. >> and this morning here's a live picture from sky6 live hd in wilmington, the commodor barry bridge there, delaware missed out on a lot of snow, but there was freezing rain and that's enough to cause problems on the roads. philadelphia police are looking for the gunman in an overnight shooting. a man was shot several times in

parkside. he was wounded in the parking lot of the a-plus minute request matter at 52nd and lancaster avenue. the man is in critical condition. the motive is still being determined. >> two people were hit by a car in cumberland county, new jersey, chopper 6 hd was over it where it happened, the intersection of east broad and north second streets in millville. both victims were taken to cooper university hospital. the driver did stop, investigators have not announced any arrests yet. 9:36 in politics this morning president obama is all but saying he believes vladimir putin was behind the hacking of the democratic national committee. this subject dominated his final news conference on friday. >> reporter: in his final yearend press conference, president obama pushed back defending his response to russia's hacking and interference in the u.s.

marlton new jersey when the snow was falling this morning. keep the pictures coming into 6abc.com. meteorologist chris sowers has been tracking the weather buffet with snow, ice, rain, and fog. >> reporter: we're coming to an end we had a whole buffet. look at the ice on the lens, temperatures are below freezing, it continues to rain and a combination of two creates ice. we have slick spots out there, you need to use caution be very, very careful this morning. here's some puck -- pictures that were sent in by some of the viewers. look at the ice on the trees, they were starting to bend over. this was taken in chester, pennsylvania. this was sent in by sandy. look at the sidewalks, this is not just north and west of

philadelphia, this is everywhere, the exception of the jersey shore, it looks like everywhere across the delaware and the lehigh valleys. this was sent in by bill out in thorndale, an icy skating rink all over this morning. we have good news, the green is inching north, it's plain rain across the jersey shore where we're seeing temperatures in the mid 30s. millville, salem and middletown and smyrna have switched over to a cold rain. you get farther north into gloucester and camden county, northwest burlington county and areas north and west, it's freezing rain. everywhere you see this blue shade it's freezing rain. it's coming down at a good clip. oxford, media, exton, authors town, jenkintown, medford lakes, cherry hill. moderate freezing rain. you go a little bit farther to the north, make another zoom advance this real quick.

get into the northwest suburbs what we're seeing here, even though we're seeing the freezing rain still falling in quakertown and pottstown and allentown, that's the back edge right there. it's no longer precipitating in reading. that edge line is shifting east pretty rapidly now. i think most of the precipitation will shut off shortly, but we have at least another hour to go. 27 in quakertown. pottstown, 27. chester, 31. 32 in center city. warrington, 29 degrees below freezing. glassboro, 31. vineland, 32. hammonton 32. all areas below freezing. wood by any above the freezing mark, 34. the villas checking in right now at 37 degrees. future tracker 6. we continue to fast forward this, by 11:00 a.m. you can see it's mainly rain in philadelphia areas to the south. precipitation shut off north and west. and then this secondary batch moves in by midday. once that pulls through the remainder of the afternoon is cloudy and damp.

we'll see areas of patchy fog develop. some of that fog will be rather thick. we get into sunday morning, here comes the cold front. ahead of it the winds shifting out of the south we could be in the 60s at the same time tomorrow morning. there's the cold front once it punches through all the numbers drop down into the 30s. temperatures wise the numbers are all over the place in the next 24 to 48 hours. icy concerns over the next few hours, dangerous conditions continue through 11:00 a.m. untreated surfaces becoming slippery and becoming like an ice rink out there. be very careful. the impact scale looks like, we have high impact this morning gradually getting better by midday and no issues later this afternoon outside of a little bit of patchy fog. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, an icy mess this morning getting a little bit better this afternoon, we're up to 44 degrees, that actually doesn't happen until 8:00 p.m. most of the afternoon we're stuck in the 30s. sunday warmer with rain by
