north over the neck couple of hours. they are stuck in the soup in the lehigh valley, .3. and the poconos .8 of a mile in reading. 57 in dover, a pair of 5s for philadelphia. 35 in in allentown. 44 for the peculiars, trenton, 50 degrees. the temperatures will climb ahead of a cold front, and then they plunge in the evening hours. 61 in charleston, west virginia. 35 in pittsburgh, and falling, 30 in buffalo, 55 degrees in philadelphia. and 51 in washington, d.c. so pretty much expect everything today, except snow, it's going to be one of those days. 58 by 9:00 a.m., 60 degrees by 11:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m., 39 the temperatures drop off a cliff and we have windchills in the 20s.

fire is being investigated. police say a pizza delivery driver was approached by a 19-year-old man last night. the delivery driver shot the man twice when he was trying to steal from him. the suspect was taken to einstein in stable condition. this morning another robber was shot this happened at an auto repair shop in southwest philadelphia. police say the 30-year-old robber entered the shot at 7:30 wearing a mask and gloves. he confronted an employee with a gun and demanded money. police say it was while the robber was making his getaway he was shot. >> he was confronted by a second economy with a handgun and license to carry. this male, whether he realized that the store was robbed or not

fired shots at the robber. >> and police tell us the second employee shot the robber three times after the criminal pointed a gun at him. not clear if the robber fired shots. the suspect was taken to penn presbyterian in stable condition. police believe the employee act understand self-defense. this morning at least nine deaths nationwide are being blamed on accidents on snowy icy roads. this is a jaw-dropping pileup in baltimore. tens of millions are caught in the middle of the cold and slick conditions. we have more on the winter blast. >> reporter: millions of americans are in the frigid grip of a cold weather system sprawling from the midwest to the northeast. >> i've got all my gear on. >> reporter: snow, ice and freezing rain turned highways

deadly. in baltimore a gas tanker truck overturned and plunged off i-95 and burst into flames. cell phone video captured the moment it went skidding across the slick pavement tichg -- tipping over and exploding. at least three people are reported killed. in fairfax, virginia, as many as 30 vehicles were caught in this chain-reaction crash. a man's body was found near the crash up, believed to be a victim. in nora -- new mexico another p. even roads that look safe can be treacherous, black ice making for scary spinouts. air travelers found themselves grounded by the wicked weather with thousands of flights delayed or canceled. but the bitter weather can't kill the holiday spirit. >> it's cool that there's snow

the action cam at that scene. the 5600 block of win daily avenue. the fire started at about 3:30 a.m., two people inside scrambled out of that home. they were not hurt, the red cross this morning is helping them find temporary shelter. firefighters put out the fire in about 20 minutes, so far no word on a cause. an early-morning fire in the port richmond section of philadelphia, has left four people homeless. the action cam at that scene. 2700 block of kensington avenue. the fire started at 1:40 a.m. in the basement. all four people living in the apartments on the first and second floors were able to get out without any injuries. firefighters contained the fire to the basement. there is smoke and water damage to the apartments. investigator are trying to figure out the fire. police in kensington are looking for a suspect who reportedly fired shots at officers. the investigation was taking place at d and west more handle

montgomery county east of pottstown south of green lane. green lane is probably seeing heavy downpours now. all this racing off to the northeast at 30 miles per hour. expect heavy downpours briefly and maybe a couple of rumbles of thunder. the wider view shows the system we're watching is a cold front, another arctic front. the air behind this air mass is mighty cold. windchills below zero. chicago, soldier field packers taking on the bears they are forecasting a high of 2 degrees with windchills 15 to 20 below. for us it will touch off rain maybe downpours in the midday hour. our temperatures crash, are as well in the evening hours. 55 in philadelphia, millville. dover, 58. trenton, showing a pair of 5s. future tracker 6 i think you'll

see more rain than what the model is picking up. everybody will see showers the exception being the jersey shore by 11:00 a.m. this will push south and east during the first part of the afternoon. 2:00 p.m., same thing you'll see more in the way of showers than what the model is showing. and then we quickly clear, the frontal system is quickly pushing through. by 5:00 it's already hitting the coast, at that point that's when the temperatures tail off. for today it's almost like the tale of two seasons. almost spring like, by tonight winter. watch this, as we take a look at future tracker with the temperatures, by noon, the model has us up to 62. upper 40s, low 50s for the far western suburbs. look how quickly the numbers drop off in the span of three hours we're down to 45 in philadelphia. 40 in reading, 38 in lancaster. we get to 6:00 p.m., 39 degrees for philadelphia.
