new information to tell you about this morning, two family pets are dead and seven people are getting help from the red cross after a fire jumped from house to house. this happened in philadelphia's frankford section. flames shot from the home on orchard street. the fire spread to neighboring homes. smoke alarms did go off alerting people to get out. sadly a pit pull rescued from abuse and trained to walk again died in the fire, he said a 14-year-old cat died. >> it is an unfortunate situation someone's house catches on fire during christmas time, but companies made a good effort to get everybody out. >> live wires fell on the street hampering fighting the fire. peco responded quickly and they put out the fire. they are investigating what caused it.

police are investigating two separate incidents in which would-be robbers were shot by their victims. police say a pizza delivery driver was approached by a 19-year-old man at 9:30 p.m. the delivery driver shot the man twice when he tried to steal from him. the suspect was taken to einstein million center listed in stable condition. this morning we're learning more information about another robber shot this happened at an auto repair shot in southwest philadelphia. police tell "action news" that the 30-year-old robber entered the shop on the 6800 block of pashle avenue wearing a mask and gloves. he used a gun and demanded money. the robber was making his getaway when he was shot. >> he was confronted by a second employee with a handgun and license to carry. this male whether he realized that the store was robbed or

not, fired shots at the robber. >> and police tell us that the second employee who shot that robber three times after the criminal pointed a gun at him. not clear if the robber fired any shots. the suspect was taken to pen presbyterian listed in stable condition. police believe the employee acted in self-defense. this morning at least nine deaths nationwide are being blamed on accidents on snowy, icy roads. among the horrible driving conditions, look at this, this pipe july happening in baltimore, dozens of vehicles littered i-95. tens of millions are caught in the middle of the cold slick conditions, we have more on this winter blast. >> reporter: millions of americans are in the frigid grip of a cold weather system sprawling from the midwest to the northeast. >> i'm prepared i've got my gear on.

with us on a sunday morning, 7:11 a.m., look at there, 56 degrees, are you kidding me, this is a live love of center city. we were dealing with fog, but that's gone, but the weather rollercoaster continues. >> reporter: it will continue into this afternoon. actually this week is a rollercoaster. let's get you outside and show you the view, commodor barry bridge, we have mainly cloudy conditions, a few peeks of sun as the sun starts to climb. what you will notice today a lot of clouds again, and eventually we'll get into showers and perhaps downpours as an approaching frontal system gets closer and closer to the area. once the front crosses, the temperatures will drop. let's flip it over to the radars, we have this little band

developing over upper montgomery and bucks county. we'll zoom in there. it is pushing off to the east, moving into hit and run -- hunterdon county in north central new jersey. we had lightning strikes a half-hour ago. we're seeing heavy rain indicated by the darker shades of green and yellow in bedminster and souderton. we have cells developing north of horsham and willow grove. these have developed in the last ten minutes or so. they are moving to the northeast, 40 miles per hour. newtown, and doylestown will pick up the activity in the next 20 minutes or so. the main event gets in here later this afternoon with the approaching cold front. temperatures out ahead of the front, now the warm front has pushed through already, wind have shifted out of the south. you can see that here with these

arrows. they are in a souther direction with the southerly winds that continue to increase. we're seeing wind speeds in the 20-mile an hour range. we're not seeing 20s and 30s we're seeing 50s. and some areas closing in on 60 decrease. winds speeds 20-mile an hour in philadelphia. 25 in dover. 24 in trenton and ten miles per hour in millville. it's going to be a warm, but windy morning and cold and windy late afternoon. double scan live set it in motion, lots of precipitation out there, a lot of rain and heavy downpours lining up the spine of the appalachians and mixing taking place on the back edge as the colder air works its way in. look at the numbers out to the west, this is another brutally cold arctic air mass. the good news, the air mass is heading east. the core of the cold this right here is moving like that. we'll miss out on the teens and 20s below zero for windchills.

poconos they are seeing colder air. the front will continue to lift north during the morning and everybody should get into the mid 50s before we start to cool it down. philadelphia close to 60 degrees. here's what we're tracking it's an area of showers and embedded downpours and thunderstorms down to the south. the cold air is add craning so quick -- advancing to quickly on the backside we'll have sleet freezing rain and actually a little bit of snow. that is charging east during the the course of the day. what to expect, near 60 by dawn. next couple of hours temperatures get close to 60 degrees. the cold front slips through in the late morning hours and the first part of the afternoon. rainfall totals a quarter of an inch. others three-quarters of an inch. the temperatures start to crash, once the front pulls through, near 40 by sunset. it will be like the upper 30s and windchills are in the 20s. the other thing we're concerned about overnight if there are any

get safely out of their wynnfield home during a house fire. the action cam at the scene the 5600 block of glendale avenue. the fire started at 6:30. two people inside scrambled to get out. they were not hurt, thankfully. we know the red cross is finding them a temporary place to stay. firefighters put out the fire in 20 minutes, no word on what caused the fire. an early-morning fire in the port richmond section of philadelphia left four people homeless. the action cam at the 27 hub block of kensington -- 2700 block of kensington avenue. this fire started in the basement. all four people living in apartments on the first and second floor were able to get out safely. nobody was inside the basement. firefighters contained the fire to the basement, but there's smoke and water damage to the apartments. this morning investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire. police in kensington are

looking for a suspect who reportedly fired shots at officer. the investigation was taking place at d and west moreland streets at about 10:30 p.m. we can tell you nobody was hurt. a delaware native who invented the heimlich manuver has died. dr. henry heimlich was born in 1920. he died of a heart attack. his invention as you know is believed to have saved thousands of lives. dr. heimlich was 96 years old. it is now, 7:35 look at this here, thousands of people packed the ohio state university auditorium to give a tearful goodbye to john glenn. the space pioneer and former u.s. senator died at the age of 95. an honor guard of marines escorted the casket into the auditorium. they carried the casket into the auditorium. then came the heartfelt tribute

biggest hits. from now until april there are 4 more productions in the 2017 season. after kicking off the season with the award winning show rant and kinky boots. they are set to stage the charming cinderella through the 7th and the 12th. >> reporter: international irish dance phenomena opens february 21. >> that showcasing that took dancing to a whole other level. >> reporter: pippen is going to be there in march. once, we recreate an irish pub on stage and the entire cast are the musicians for the show, so they sing and dance, but they also play the stroormts, as well.
