front has shifted the winds temporarily out of the south, that has put temperatures in the 50s and 60s this morning. you'll notice immediately when you step outdoors it feels better out there. as we flip over to the radars, this is double scan live set in motion, this is the cold front stretching from new england down the spine of the appalachians into the western portions of the virginias and the carolinas. we've picked up downpours and lightning strikes reported with this a couple of hours ago. the cold is racing in on the backside we're changing this rain over to frozen precipitation. sleet pellets in pittsburgh and buffalo and snowflakes being reported. that's what we'll be dealing with later this afternoon. not necessarily the frozen precipitation, but the fact that the numbers drop so rapidly it will get bluster ut where the day is out -- blustery before the day is out.

they say they found a man in his 50s dead on the second floor. the home and the surrounding homes on that street are vacant. the cause is under investigation. two family pets are dead and seven people are homeless after a fire jumped from house to house in the frankford section overnight. flames shot from a home on the 4200 block of orchard street. the fire spread to neighboring homes. smoke alarms went off alerting people to get out. sadly, a homeowner said a pitbull rescued from abuse and trained to walk again died in the fire. he said a 14-year-old cot died. >> it's an unfortunate situation when someone's house catches on fire during the christmas period. companies made a good effort and got everybody out. >> we learned that live power lines fell on the street hampering effort to fight the fire. peco responded fast and shut off

the line. the cause is under investigation. a man and his elderly mother safely escaped their burning home in wynnfield overnight. firefighters were called to the 5600 block of win dell avenue after reports of flames on the second floor of the home. it took 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. the man and his mother were not hurt. the cause of this fire under investigation. two would-be robbers picked the wrong victims both were shot. this morning philadelphia police are investigating two separate incidents. this is the 1400 block of wellington street in northeast philadelphia. police say a pizza delivery driver was approached by an 19-year-old man at 9:30. the delivery driver shot the man twice when he tried to steal from him. the suspect was taken to einstein in stable condition. the second location is right here at an auto repair shop in southwest philadelphia. police tell "action news" that the 30-year-old robber entered the shop on the 6800 block of

paschel avenue at 7:30 wearing a mask and gloves. he confronted an employee with a gun and demanded money. he was shot making a getaway. >> he was shot by a second employee with a handgun and license to carry. this male, whether he realized that the store was robbed or not, fired shots at the robber. >> police say the second employee shot the robber three times after he pointed the gun at him. they say the employee acted in self-defense. the suspect was taken to penn presbyterian in stable condition. your time, 9:05. there's important information for parents and students out there, there can be a revamp of the statewide grading system in state schools. education leaders proposed a change called future ready pha

the organs -- oranges and yellows starting to show up. that will begin at 2:00 p.m. the front clears the coast, the temperatures start to fall. this is what's going on out west these current windchills. look at this, how many times do you see 3 degrees in dallas. minus 9 in omaha. 21 below in bismarck. 14 below in chicago. bears taking on the packers forecasting a high in chicago of 2 degrees. cold stuff. all this is racing to the east. the good news even though it's going to get a lot colder we're not seeing to see anything like that, or dangerous temperatures, cold nonlt the less, but -- nonetheless, but not that bad. cold today, windy, 60 degrees is the forecasted high. by 11:00 a.m. there's the high for the day.

double scan live we continue to watch the radars closely. we're waiting for the rain off to the west. we zoom into the lehigh valley. there's allentown and bethlehem. farther to the west there's pottstown right there. all this racing off to the east. very, very light no frozen precipitation with it, very light rain, but adding to the misery in the lehigh valley this morning. visibility down to less than a half mile. kind of stuck in the muck, so to speak. it's only 39. the warm air has not made it into the lehigh valley. i don't know if it will. 59 in philadelphia. 39 in in in allen to -- allentown. let's say you top out around 41, 42. upper 50s, low 60s for everybody else. next couple of hours it wouldn't surprise me if someone hit 61 or 62 with the strong southerly breezes. this is the 24 hour temperature change, what you're looking at,

philadelphia is 27 degrees warm are than the same time yesterday. dover, 29 degrees warmer. millville, 25 degrees warmer. trenton and atlantic city and wildwood, as well. 26 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday when we had all that ice and snow and temperatures in the 20s and 30s. now, again the warm front is lifted like this right about there, we're in the warm sector of this storm. now, the cold air is quickly charging in again, that's why we're seeing the tail end of the line of precipitation turnover to a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. look at the windchills, look at the difference, 300 miles between philadelphia and pittsburgh. near 60 in philadelphia. feels like 21 in pittsburgh. 17 in buffalo. charles it was in the 60s now it feels like 28 degrees. that's the colder air heading this way. you will feel it this evening, and tomorrow morning when the windchills bottom out in the low to mid teens in the philadelphia area. here's future tracker 6.

rollercoaster in the temperature. meteorologist chris sowers at the "action news" big board with a look at accuweather. >> reporter: good morning, nydia. temperatures are 25 to 30 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday when we were dealing with all the ice and snow. big, big changes have arrived thanks to a warm front which purged through. it hadn't made it all the way up to the lehigh valley just yet, but everybody else south of let's say the pennsylvania turnpike, already upper 50s, low 60s. it's nice out there. here comes the rain, this is the cold front we switched it over to a frozen precipitation on the backside, and temperatures crash. we're in store for a wide range of weather today. we'll see a lot of everything. 38 degrees in allentown. close to 60 for philadelphia. there's the warm front it's right about there, but it's not pushing any farther to the north. it kind of stalled. looks like allentown and most of the lehigh valley is probably as warm as you'll get, maybe a couple of degrees warmer that's it. 60 for millville and atlantic city.

dealing with tragedy. they are not only out of a home but lost two beloved pets in fire. one pet was a rescue given a new life. annie mccormick heartbreaking for this family, what are you learning? >> reporter: and gray, that dog brandy we are told the owen rescued from spca the dog was unable to walk when the owner rescued him and nursed him back to life. that dog died in the blaze. take a look at the video from the fire. it was a quick-moving fire. the brock out in the 4200 block of orchard after 11:00 p.m. crews arrived to heavy fire and smoke. no civilian or firefighter suffered injury. they did find several pellets alive in one home next-door where they believe the fire began. 4249 where the blaze did begin, the homeowner was not home at

the time, but his 14-year-old cat and dog both died. that is according to the family. fire officials say they had issues fighting the fire because live wires fell into the street. >> it's unfortunate situation when someone's house catches fire during the christmas period, but companies made a good effort in getting everyone out an making sure sure that the fire didn't extend to neighbors, we have red cross here and we're working with peco and police, just unified toafort make sure we're take -- effort to make sure we're taking care of the citizens that the fire affected. >> reporter: now, where the blaze began, obviously that home is destroyed. the next-door neighbor has a lot of damage to their house, they are unable to stay there. also the home on the other side of where they believe the fire began has damage on the side, as well. we are talking to several other people who were affected, at least seven people are now getting help from the red cross

last night. the delivery driver shot and hit the suspect and he was taken to einstein. a 30-year-old robber entered the auto shop wearing a mask anne gloves. he confronted an employee with a gun and demanded cash. he was shot trying to make a getaway. >> he was shot by a second employee with a handgun and license to carry. this male, whether he realized that the store was robbed or not, fired shots at the robber. >> police say the second employee shot the robber three times in self-defense after the suspect pointed the gun at him. the suspect was taken to penn presbyterian in stable condition. the time 10:07. a montgomery man who was out of prison for less than a week is back behind bars this morning accused of killing his aunt.

you'll go up to 40, 41, you won't get into the 60s like everybody's. winds speeds from the south, 15 to 20 miles per hour. 18 in philadelphia. 16 in trenton. that's in advance of the approaching cold front which stretches from new england all the way down into the deep south, the dixie south. eastern portions of kentucky and tennessee they are seeing snow and ice from this system right now. lots of rain for central pennsylvania and that's what's heading this way during the late morning hours into the first part of the afternoon. we'll stop the clock at 11:00 a.m., you can see rain for most of the philadelphia area, looks like the shore is in the clear at this point. 2:00 p.m., the heaviest stuff is off the coast, still raining for i-95 corridor, lighter rain, 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., the precipitation pulls out to sea. the numbers bottom out. look at the numbers to the west, gray you paying attention to this, 24 degrees.

you know why i keep showing them [laughter]. look at these numbers, 6 below in omaha. these are windchills in chicago. feels like 3 in dallas. dallas, texas three degrees, that cold air drops into mexico. that's the air mass heading this way. rain developing between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. the rest of the day is dry, windy, 60 degrees that is the forecasted high. you can see we hit that early and the numbers tank, 56 by 1:00 p.m. 45 by 3:00 p.m. down to 39 degrees by 5:00 p.m. windchills in the 20s, overnight tonight, when you wake up tomorrow morning, that's the temperature across the western suburbs, 18. it's 60 right now. 25 degrees across the outlying suburbs, yes be often look out for icy patches. if you have puddles they will refreeze overnight tonight because of how quickly the temperatures drop off.
