from northeast philadelphia where two people were killed in a nasty wreck on roosevelt boulevard. it happened when a mercedes benz slammed into the back of a school bus at high speed. jeanette reyes is there. jeanette? >> walter, the occupants didn't stand a chance. it can only be described as horrific. look at the car after rear ending a bus. the bus has hardly any signs of being in an accident although the driver is understandably shaken by all of this. philadelphia police say the crash happened around 9:00 p.m. the driver of the mercedes was driving well over the 45 miles per hour speed limit approaching wood >> dr. casey wardynski: street. the bus was filled with more

than two dozen students dropped off at a church minutes before. the bus stopped at a red light when the mercedes rammed the bus. two people tried to yank open the door to save the man and woman, but flame flames encircle vehicle. >> it went under the bumper of the school bus and the impact killed the male driver and female passenger. they were killed instantly. >> the good samaritans tell me they believe the occupants were dead, but they didn't want them to have to be caught up in the flames. coming back to us, we are told there are officers witnessed the car going well above the speed

limit. ithis is what they hoped would not happen. there were no other injuries. the driver of the bus was not injured and refused medical assistance. jeanette reyes, "action news." walter? >> thank you, jeanette. >> and a motorcycle crash left a man seriously injured near pleasant valley road in newark. the motorcyclist crashed his bike and the bike caught fire. he's in serious condition at christiana hospital. the intersection is still closed as police piece together what happened. >> now to the story of the day, temperatures are taking a huge dip. melissa has the forecast. >> walter, a far cry from early dwreearlier today.

temperatures were mild, the high in philadelphia at 60-degrees. right now, 35 in the city. that's a 25-degree temperature drop in 11 hours as temperatures tuggle. it's all because the cold front came through today. at the coast in cape may, 40. the winds are relaxing from nine miles per hour in philadelphia, 15 in the poconos and 14 miles per hour in dover. radar 3d, you can see the cold front to the south and east. we are tapping the winds from canada drying out the atmosphere chilling us down as well. it will be colder, back to work monday. mild starred for winter beginning this week. it feels like that to some. rain on the way as well. we have details with the

exclusive forecast, walter? >> thank you, melissa. >> much of the nation is dealing with deep freezes and more than a dozen deaths are being blamed on the weather. hundreds of crashes are blamed on icy roads. check out the field in kansas where this is won of the coldest games in nfl history. at kickoff, temperatures at one degree and felt lower with the wind. >> some flights were delayed by more than two hours. several frontier airline flights were canceled all together. bob? >> walter, good evening. the passengers tell me their flights were canceled. they were not given the option to get to their destination. it happened at the frontier checking desk.

to put it mildly, there are unhappy people inside of there right now. >> never ever again will i fly frontier. >> honestly, i believe they should be put out of business. >> for lack of better word, these customers are not happy. after a cancellation of flights, things at the check out gate got heated. >> now we can't get home until tuesday. i have to work tomorrow. i have to work tuesday. >> the people are headed to florida but the flight was canceled last minute and customers were offered no solution until a flight on tuesday. one woman tried to speak to frontier and they were told, you get what you pay for. i don't think it was appropriate for the employee to say that to the people. >> five frontier flights were canceled. joseph patterson was going to orlando and opted for a ticket

with american airlines. >> it's like seven workdays. to get home, i have to do what it takes. >> jimmy was headed to north carolina. his flight was canceled. >> the next flight is next monday. >> bad weather has impacted 3,000 flights around the country. in denver, frontier was also having problems. hundreds of bags piled up with no employees to sort them. customers had to search themselves. seems united airlines was having issues as well. there was only one employee at the customer service desk. certainly not what you want to see as we begin this holiday travel week here now. we tried to speak with frontier but they denied us comment at the desk tonight. bob brooks, channel6 "action news." walter? >> you can see the frustration. thank you, bob.

>> a vigil was held to remember the life of a little girl killed in a hit and run in overbrook. she was killed a month ago when she was crossing with her siblings at 63rd and lands down. tonight they held hands in prayer. >> our family is hurting really bad. all we can do is be strong. we are so glad that jianna's mother and her father have been so strong. >> meanwhile 24-year-old paul woodland is behind bars for the deadly hit and run. police say he confessed to the crime. >> a fire in the frantford section killed two pets and left two families homeless. >> firefighters found the house engulfed in flames. it spread to the house next door as well. the cat and dog the homeowner

rescued from the spca were killed. they were able to save two pets next door. >> moving on to the white house transition now. tomorrow, members of the electoral college will meet to place their vote for the president of the united states. it will be watched with heightened interest. the college is under scrutiny because hilary clinton won the popular vote and second finding that russian hackers at least tried to alter the outcome of the presidential election. president elect trump needs 270 votes to win and it looks like that will happen. 80 electors have asked for classified briefings on the hackers. most are pledged to clinton and they say they need all of the information before they vote.

>> sad news fromhold, actress zsa zsa gabor has died at the age of 9.

her husband said gabor died today at her home. she suffered from a string of medical issues after breaking a hip. she was best known for her many love affairs and nine marriages. a young child was killed during a case of possible road rage that inded in gunfire in arkansas. the three-year-old was in the car with his grandma and one-year-old. the person behind her honked his horn. when she honked back, the man jumped out of the car, and fired one shot. she took off and called police. it wasn't until she pulled over to get the kids out of the car to find the three-year-old was shot. the child died in hospital.

>> the family is completely innocent and has no connection to the shooter. police are offering a $20,000 reward in this case. >> firefighters say they sensed the true meaning of christmas in a letter from a boy to santa claus. in the letter, he asked for a heart for his mom. the firefighters at the fire house in houston decided to surprise him friday. they brought him gifts as a token for his admiration for his love for his mom. >> for him to be selfless and not ask for anything but his mom to be healthy at christmas, it put us back. >> me and my dad play for my mom. all we want is to see my mom happy. >> the gesture moved his mother
