using. >> they are doing it wrong. late night rescue operation going on here off the coast of new zealand. right here you see an orca has been caught by the tail in a fishing line. a trap at the bottom of the sea, the line is now wrapped around the tail and you've got people here doing their best with a make shift grasp to free the orca. >> they need to breathe. most horrible irony for a whale to drown. >> this whale was close to drowning because it had been trapped there for 16 hours. took about an hour to free this whale. got it. >> yeah! >> you would think the people that were involved in this rescue would be hailed as heros. >> you're the man. >> however, at least one, the harbor master, has had his duties diminished because he went against the advice to not go out and do this. the whale was reported as stuck at 9:30 in the morning.

16 hours later, nothing had been done. the doc hadn't planned on going out until the next morning, so the locals went out to help the whale out. >> what's their problem? >> he basically was insubordinate. they are his boss and he didn't take their advice. >> but sometimes it's about the big picture. >> it's so ridiculous. >> part of the issue they have with the harbor master is he used one of the official boats to do this. he was using company equipment to affect this rescue. the local regional council is conducting an investigation. the irony here is, the harbor master was scheduled to resign later in the month anyway. they kind of just pushed him out because of this. there's a petition to have him reinstated. people feel they should be held as heros and not reprimanded for what they did. people are super consumed with youtube and the kids are
