this noon with incredible developments from a new jersey highway. some vehicles were ripped to pieces during a nasty multivehicle collision. despite all the damage everyone survived. annie mccormick joins us from the logan police department with the full story. >> rick, we just learned from logan township police they have issued a summons for reckless driving and that is for the operator of the tractor trailer that they believe caused the accident. >> chopper 6 hd over the scene of a multivehicle accident just before 3:30 this morning and preliminary reports believe that a tractor trailer hauling a tanker of waste water failed to stop and plowed into traffic at a stand still because of an earlier issue on the road. >> there were seven vehicles involved in the crash and three of which were in the median and three of which were on the right

shoulder. >> and multiple agencies responded and emergency crews rushed victims to local hospitals and none had life-threatening injuries, the driver of this honda with the roof torn off was alive and talking and police stopped other drivers from plunging into a pond along the highway. there was so much debris police had to bring a dumpster to the scene. >> we were expecting life-threatening injuries but thus far there is no life-threatening injuries, everybody appears to be inconsiderably decent shape. >> we are told that the roadway should be completely cleared in 15 to 20 minutes. ar for the conditions of the victim. we were told they were taken to cooper hospital. annie mckofrmic, channel 6

"action news." >> thank you. a series of violent attacks on local women have been connected to one man according to authorities. police just announced murder charges against byron allen for the death of natasha gibson in delaware county. she was stabbed and beaten in september. alan was previously charged in four other knife attacks against women in philadelphia and was in custody for the past several months. we'll have a live report in this case coming up later at 12:30? in radnor township, chopper 6 hd was over the scene of a water rescue this morning. a drever lost control and drove into a creek at 7:30 a.m. at saw mill lane. two people were trapped in the vehicle and fire crews were able to get them out and no word on their conditions or why the car veered out of control. >> turning to accuweather the fis day of winter is feeling a

bit on the mild side. temperatures are milder today as we look live from our sky 6 hd camera. karen rogers has the first check of the forecast. feels nice? >> it doesn't feel bad as all for the first day of winter. we have lots of clouds up above and today is the winter solstice, it arrived at 5:44 this morning and that is when the sun's direct rays are over the tropic of capricorn that means not as much daylight. the shortest day and longest night but little by little over the coming weeks we'll gain the daylight hours back. satellite 6 along with action radar showing us how the clouds have really filled in and they are mostly high, thin clouds but absecuring the sun through this. and a mix of sun and clouds, it will look similar for the rest of the afternoon and evening. winds are light at 9 miles per hour. we stay dry and not a bad day

and temperature 40 degrees. 40 in allentown and 39 in reading and 42 in millville and 42 in atlantic city and 37 in trenton and we started off this morning in the 20s. everybody was below sfreezing and this is not a bad bounce back after a cold start to the day. you factor in the light wind from the west it feels chilly out here, it feels barely above freezing in philadelphia. 34 in trenton and 32 in reading and 36 in millville. so the wind is not playing a major factor just cutting down the temperature a bit. here is a look at your evening commute. 41 degrees from our high of 45 and 5:00 in the 30s at 39. 7:00, 36. and we stay dry for the evening commute tonight getted colder overnight and we expect a cold morning tomorrow but the afternoon highs are off to the races, you'll see that in the

from new york. >> reporter: rick, authorities are not specifying if this is the suspect they believe was behind the wheel of the truck but they posted a notice looking for a man who is named aniece amry. and he has known ties to terror groups. today german officials hunting for the terrorist that killed 12 people and injured dozens of others at this christmas market in berlin. confirmed they have now identified a suspect. this home among the places they are searching for a tunisian man in his 20s. german papers were found in the truck. the market was packed with shoppers as the truck barrelled through and a christmas stopping the truck. >> this place was not protected

killing his wife, tara o'shea. they spent hours searching the remote area but had no luck finding the 32-year-old fugitive. a man was ambushed and shot to death sitting in his car. he walked up to a toyota camera and shot the victim multiple times before 1:30 this morning and was found dead on the unit block of north 41st street in philadelphia. investigators have not released his name. a philadelphia community has been chosen to receive thousands in federal grant money. the announcement came in west philadelphia. mayor jim kenney and dr. williams hite and various community members were there to celebrate. drexel will receive close to $6 million from the department of education to improve opportunities for children.

the death toll after an explosion at a fireworks market in mexico has climbed to 31. so far nine bodies are identified. among them a 3-month-old boy and 12-year-old girl. more than 70 people were hurt in the blast. investigators have not yet said what may have caused the deadly explosion and the death toll is expected to continue to rise, the market was well stocked with fireworks for the holidays. queen elizabeth ii and her husband have delayed their

hold a special session to repeal a law that limits lgbt rights and which bathrooms that they can use in public schools and public buildings. they were willing to consider appealing the law if charlotte undid their anti-discrimination ordinance. and a man that won a medal of honor received the award a century and a half later. he never knew he was warded the honor part of the confusion is because harry smith is really harry reynolds. it was in the name of the aleis and this week the medal was finally given to ren old as grandson in his honor. thousands of meals for students without standing lunch balances in utah are paid for by the generosity of one man there.

35-year-old damon burton donated $2,000 to the school district and that was enough money to pay for 5700 meals. burton says he is familiar with the financial struggle for the students and their families. >> i benefitted with free programs in my school and over the years i wanted to figure out some way to give back. >> because of the donation the school says that 365 students from 17 schools now have a zero balance.

americans are buying up homes at the fastest pace in nearly a decade. the national association of realtors is out with the latest numbers. sales of existing homes climbed .7% in november. last month sales were 15% higher kbar compared to the same time last year and the tight supply is pushing up prices as well. >> turning to health check this noon, a new report says that drug overdose deaths jumped 23% from 2010 and 2014 and heroin is the main culprit. according to the centers for disease control it has surpassed the prescription oxycodone as the main killer. and deaths from fentanyl has doubled. and during the holidays many of us reach for comfort foods and pizza, donuts and mac and

and mild temperatures that could extend in christmas. >> looks like the next seven days, afternoon high as above average. not bad unless you are a snow lover and then i apologize. lets look at stormtracker 6 live double scan around the area. and we are dry we are staying dry today. maybe a shower sneaks in tomorrow. lets go outside and see what it looks like right now. the action cam was out and about in radnor township. the water looking rather still. lets look at the current numbers for you. 40 degrees right now not bad after a cold start. we started in the teens in the lehigh valley in the 20s everywhere else. the dew point 22 degrees, a dry atmosphere and pressure is rising now and the winds out of the west-southwest light at 9 miles per hour and the ocean temperature is 40 degrees, satellite 6 along with action radar showing the clouds that have really moved in overhead and sticking with us the rest of

the day, for the most part they are high, thin clouds and you see the sun filtering through a bit and lots of clouds out there and we are staying dry today and in the lehigh valley more clouds than sun and not as cold as it has been. a high of 42 degrees and down the shore more sunshine than the rest of us will see, rather mild with 46 degrees for your high. not too shabby for the first day of winter and hitting 46 degrees, 2:00 this afternoon 43 degrees and our high is 45 and we hit it around 3:00 or so. 4:00 p.m. we come down from that at 41 and sunshine filtering through with the clouds and 8:00, 34 and 10:00, 33 degrees and the overnight low is 30 another cold night. and then the front comes through tomorrow and ahead of it we get a mild surge, up to 50 degrees for your high temperature. normally would be in the low 40s that is quite a bit above
