shooting of a ups driver in the city of chester. it happened in the area of tenth and highland but the driver made it to murphy ford in the 3300 block of township line road. that's where "action news" reporter bob brooks is now live. bob, first of all, what's the condition of the driver? >> reporter: jim, well, good evening. this could have turned out much worse than it d luckily i can report the driver was only shot in the shoulder. he was grazed. he is going to be okay and the reason why we are here at murphy's ford, that driver thought he could find help here and he did. a ups truck parked at murphy's ford in chester. it doesn't seem like an unusual sight but how it got there s around 1:30 the ups driver came barreling into the dealership. he had been shot out on the job. and thought he could find help inside. >> he came in because he knew it was safe. we always have police around because we service chester vehicles and we take care of the paramedics.

>> reporter: turns out the driver was right. >> turned out there was a paramedic here took him right in and took him to the hospital. >> reporter: it was a chaotic situation that could have turned out worse. the driver was passing through the area of tenth and highland. a stray bullet came through and grazed him in the shoulder. he made a beeline for murphy's. at this point detectives say they don't think the ups driver was the intended target but rather caught in crossfire. they add he's lucky he was only grazed. the packages were loaded onto another truck and sent back out for delivery. lucky indeed that help was here. now we are hearing that that ups driver was a 13 year veteran with the company. we're told there also was a delivery helper aboard there truck. they were uninjured. for now reporting live in chester, bob brooks channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, bob. a montgomery county woman whose missing adoptive daughter was found dead was released from jail this

afternoon. police sasarara packer gave fleeting information about grace packer after she went missing last july. investigators say she also allegedly kept cashing grace's monthly social security checks. yesterday police confirmed grace's dismembered body was found in rural luzerne county. sara packer has been charged with obstruction and endangerment. she is still considered a person of interest in the murder case. police in new jersey have arrestd two women for their alleged roles in the deadly shooting of the south jersey woman who was using a lyft ride share vehicle. casey dezolt and dominic richter face several charges including being an accomplice to murder. police say 27-year-old amber dudley died after being shot during a robbery attempt last month in trenton. the search continues for the gunman. we are at the start of the holiday weekends. better news here. so two things are very important. travel and weather

information. we've got "action news" reporter john rawlins stationed at philadelphia international airport but let's get the latest from accuweather and meteorologist cecily tynan. >> jim we're dry but double scan live showing there's a storm system with moisture moving our way very similar setup to last week. low pressure that's really cutting up to our north. very different though as far as the temperatures. last week remember we had two days that arctic air with temperatures stuck in the 20's. we've been pretty mild at least for the second half of the week. right now 41 degrees in philadelphia. trenton 42. reading 38. cape may 40. made it to 46 today. yesterday made it to 53 so the ground is pretty warm. but there could be a few pockets of some freezing rain. so, the national weather service has issued a freezing rain advisory from 1 o'clock in the morning until 9 o'clock in the morning for our far northwest suburbs, berks county, lehigh county northampton county upper bucks and the poconos. this is where there could be a

few patches of ice. i don't think it's going to be widespread, though. future tracker showing even by 8 o'clock in the poconos, this is a rain event and it's a pretty quick moving system so it will not be a washout for christmas eve, just rain really the first half of the day. so looking ahead clouds will continue to thicken tonight. with the thick cloud cover temperatures not dropping off much. wet christmas eve into midafternoon it should be exiting the coast and it will be dry for the start of hanukkah also dry for santa but i'm tracking more mild weather on the way, some warm temperatures. details on that in the accuweather 7-day forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. let's switch live to "action news" reporter john rawlins at philadelphia international airport. john, a lot of folks traveling this weekend. what's the situation there? >> reporter: well, a lot of folks traveling but it's been pretty smooth so far today. no major complaints. no weather delays. no complaints from inbound passengers. we just checked the time it takes to wait in a t.s.a. service line here.

security line here in terminal d about 11 minutes not bad for a holiday travel day. >> new york. >> reporter: aaa says back to back holiday weekends will likely trigger a record number of holiday travelers. 103 million over the next 11 days. 90 plus percent of them will be taking to the roads while gas prices are up, they are still perceived as reasonable. >> so, when gas prices are relatively low, it puts more disposable income in people's pockets and they're able to travel. >> reporter: here at the airport very few delays reported today. >> i was expecting it to be a lot more crowded and a lot more stressful but it was easy and relaxing. >> reporter: everything on time. >> everything was on time. everything was great. >> yeah, it's on time. >> reporter: crowded or. >> no, it was good. everything was fine. >> reporter: the only delay is the -- >> the luggage. >> reporter: how long have you been waiting for the luggage. >> like 20 minutes around there. >> reporter: normally phl handles about 86,000

this holiday weekends from storm tracker six to the latest traffic information, we have you covered and please follow our meteorologist on facebook and twitter for weather updates as well. other news at this hour a man died this morning in a fire that also left six families without a place to stay just days before the holidays. the two alarm fire broke out at 1:30 this morning in the 400 block of east high street in pottstown. before firefighters arrived neighbors in the apartment complex helped several children get out safely. >> grabbed them. that was it. didn't grab anything else. just grabbed the little ones, got right out of there. >> the victim's brother identified him as 50-year-old david jukc. firefighters think careless smoking caused the blaze. philadelphia police are searching for two men who they say stormed into a kensington house late last night and shot a woman inside. investigators say the suspects knocked on the door of the

home in the 500 block of east allegheny avenue at 11:30. when the woman opened the door, police say the men forced their way in and demanded money. there was a struggle. the woman was shot in the arm. she is in stable condition tonight. families of fallen heroes and police officers came together for a holiday meal this morning in northeast philadelphia. the fraternal order of police hosted its annual survivor's christmas breakfast at philadelphia lodge five headquarters. there was food, holiday music even gift baskets for each of the families today. the event is a reminder to families that they will never be forgotten. >> nobody could ever experience what they have experienced so the best that we can do is to offer them our friendship and our support for themselves and for their children. >> it's just a nice thing what they do, how they never do forget us. that's huge. that helps us a lot. >> commissioner richard ross

"action news" was at socks bakery in port richmond in philadelphia which was sold out of cakes. look at those shelves. people were only able to pick up their preordered desserts. the bakery hopes to have those shelves stocked with cakes tomorrow. the holidays will be even brighter for a delaware mother and daughter now that they are officially a family. 44-year-old zoey was adopted by her foster mother today. to celebrate there was a special ceremony featuring characters from zoey's favorite movie, "star wars" darth vader the storm troopers and shoe chewbacca were there in the courtroom. this is all in wilmington to congratulate zoey and her knee mom deanna pettcone. zoey was placed in her care in 2013 and the two formed such a strong bonds that petticone wanted to make it official and that's what happened today. [applause] (man) my dad and i have the same eyes.

3 degrees above normal. so again a pretty mild day. trenton 41. atlantic city 43. allentown 39 and reading currently 38 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar slowing we started the day with sunshine but the clouds moved in throughout the course of the afternoon. they're pretty thick right now and the moisture is also on the way. you can see that there is some snow in the north edge of this but really this is going to be primarily a liquid event as it moves in. there just could be a little bit of touch of some freezing rain across the poconos, the lehigh valley in the wee hours of the morning so we have a freezing rain advisory up there. i don't think it's going to be a big problem. tonight the clouds roll in. rain will be here by dawn. again, the cooler suburbs lehigh valley 32. philadelphia it's going to be too warm for anything frozen. 35 degrees and future tracker showing the best chance of any freezing rain across the poconos, the lehigh valley really the wee hours of the morning around 3 o'clock and then by 8 o'clock, it's rain even across the poconos. pretty steady rain along i-95,

south jersey and delaware but this is a fast moving system. by lunchtime we're drying out west of philadelphia. by about 2:30 all the rain is out of here and the clouds breaking for some sunshine pretty quickly so really getting a lot better as we're heading through the day so this is what to expect. that precipitation beginning after midnight, brief mix in the lehigh valley and the poconos, mainly rain for all of us. dry early in the afternoon and how much rain you get really depends on where you are. the steadiest, the heaviest will be closer to the shore, about a half inch, philadelphia close to that. the northwest suburbs not much at all, less than a tenth of an inch of rain and christmas day beautiful, mostly sunny, very pleasant. 8 o'clock 37. by noon, 45 and then by 5 o'clock 46 degrees. should be a beautiful day. so the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast rain early. late clearing. it's dry for hanukkah. dry for santa. 48 degrees. sunday a lot like today, mostly sunny and very nice,
