preparations for the big day are finishing up. tonight procrastinators shop until the very last of the stores close their doors. some folks started before the suntoday. for others christmas eve is a time to take it slow, preflekt and pray. the big story tonight is christmas eve 2016. at this point many people are probably settling in, getting for the arrival of old saint nick and hopefully the kids are sleeping tight and the cookies are ready. you can see santa claus and his reindeer there. we have team coverage tonight. jeannette reyes is in winfield heights where just moments ago the final shoppers left target where we begin with meteorologist melissa magee. >> walter, was a bit of a soggy start to our holiday weekend

with a high in philadelphia 46 degrees but we did have that rain earlier today. the rain has since moved out of our region and we've got a partly cloudy sky. right now the city coming in at 43. chilly to the north and west, 36 in buffalo, 38 in pittsburgh and 39 degrees in boast washington, d.c. and he richmond virginia. it's dry and quiet we had that fropt across our region earlier today and has since moved off to the south and east so we've got clear skies on the way, partly cloudy sky for the rest of tonight. for the next 12 hours it's chilly we'll jump down to 30s in the suburbs. so as we look ahead we'll take another look at santa and his current destination and where he's headed next. it's sunny for christmas day with temperatures in the 40s. in fact we'll take you through our planner tomorrow. mostly sunny, it's pleasant and mild. 8:00 in the morning 34. by noon on christmas day 43. 5:00 in the evening we're coming

into numerous parents. >> some last minute shopping. >> reporter: you've got your hands full here. >> yeah, i do. >> reporter: zbl this little kid is trying to empty my pockets. >> he says she's a good shopper but gets distracted she made sure to check off her christmas list herself. no help needed her. >> i'm shoopg for myself and my daughter because i'm going to make sure she's goog to iceland and i want to make sure she has everything she needs and i've got a couple of things for me. >> reporter: over at target in winfield heights, the parking lot was just about the only thing packed. many shelves were left bear after a tornado of hardcore procrastinators came through. >> we'll be done very soon.

victim's daughter. >> reporter: instead of celebrating christmas eve, there's a neighborhood in south philly where pretty much everyone is spending the day crying. some could barely stand. we spoke with her daughter maria at the family's home today. >> she was loved by so many people. >> reporter: maria says she doesn't think this was random. >> somebody was stalking my mother for whatever reason. >> a man dressed in all black entered her store called marie's grocery. the store just two doors down from the family's home. detectives say the suspect said nothing, stole nothing but shot the 81-year-old several times. there was a witness inside working with marie and there is a description of the suspect. they now have a message for. >> he better turn himself in, because not for nothing but we

president-elect donald trump says he plans to dissolve his controversial foundation. he says the trump foundation has done wonderful things contributing money to veterans, law enforcement and children in need. but trump says he still wants to dissolve it to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of of interest. the foundation has been criticized for reportedly funneling its money to settle legal disputes. the foundation is currently under investigation by the attorney general. tributes and well wishes are
