times whenever a large gathering which is what we'll have this weekend happens it is a security issue. just a fact of life. we've all heard about what new york is doing as far as times square tomorrow night and philadelphia has a tradition of not going into detail about its security measures about its staffing then sort of thing but a spokesman for the city said today that it would use best practices tomorrow night sunday. >> it's all hands-on deck. utilizing patrols, special operations. >> reporter: sunday thousands will pack into this area around city hall and south along broad to take in the mummers. saturday night, thousands will crowd along the delaware for fireworks. it will be a weekend of mass celebration large crowds of people. by definition they are soft targets much like the crowds that gathered in nice and we are and will. there terrorists using not bombs but nothing more exotic than large trucks were able to kill and maim. in reaction new york announced it will beef up security around times square tomorrow night. in addition to officers and

bag checks 20-ton trucks loaded with sand will be used as shields to physically stop a truck attack. not going into detail about philadelphia's plans lieutenant stanford says the city has used trucks in the past to provide a level of protection. >> we've used a number of those tactics in a number of different events we've had just more recently the dnc as well as our celebration we have during july 4th. we'll have the same tactics in place. >> reporter: images of the european truck attacks that killed 98 people have been seen by pat but she understands her daughter's decision to be part of the crowd here this weekend. >> i'm not going to stop my life or have my kids stop their own because of something else another person is going to do. i want them to enjoy especially our community that's involved. >> reporter: so a big holiday weekend this week going to be opened to many public events. expect stepped up security both seen and unseen. live at dillworth park john

complaints for your saturday and sunday but for today kind of winter-like with winds whipping in out of the northwest. we had some of those flurries and snow showers working off of the great lakes. most of the heavier bands of snow were well to our north and west but a few passed through our region kind of giving that feel that yes, it is winter and it is december. those wind gusts in philadelphialy 37 miles an hour, wilmington 35, 36 in al tune and clocking in at 40 miles an hour for atlantic city as well as mount pocono making it feel a lot cooler than it was today. in fact those wind chills stayed in the 20's most of the afternoon. as we get into new year's eve here, a lot of clouds but not too chilly. your temperature at 6 o'clock, 41 and at midnight another round of fireworks your temperature still right around that 40-degree mark. in fact, we're going to go to 45 for a high tomorrow, sun and just high clouds. still a bit breezy between 10 and 20 miles an hour and as we ring in the new year sunday lots of sun, 50 degrees so a

overtly which you see today and some things covertly which you don't see. >> reporter: the white house is also slapping sanction on five russian entities including intelligence services and has ordered two russian found in new york and maryland closed. the fbi also wants two russian men accused of cyber crimes all of this if response to what u.s. intelligence says was a coordinated russian hacking effort to influence the november election. russian officials vowed to hit back. >> of course we cannot let such escapades happen without a response. the reciprocity of law and diplomacy and international relations. >> reporter: vladimir putin said we will not create problems for american diplomats. we will not send anyone away but still receives the right to retaliate in the future. president-elect donald trump long skeptical of u.s. claims of russian hacking said it's time for our country to move on to bigger and better things. >> he'll receive an intelligence briefing in this coming week and in the meantime he believes it's time

to move on. >> reporter: those now unwelcome russian diplomats have until new year's day to leave the u.s. what's unclear is whether president trump will let them back in. scott mcclain channel6 "action news." >> bill cosby's lawyers are now asking that his trial be moved out of montgomery county. lawyers for the 79-year-old embattled comedian say jurors here have been tainted by negative media coverage of the sex assault case. they filed a motion today asking that the judge in norristown either move the trial out or bring a jury in from elsewhere. cosby is scheduled to go on trial next summer for allegedly drugging and molesting a woman at his nome 2004. >> an armed robbery had police surrounding a drug snore west oak lane today. investigators say two men went into the rite-aid on stenton a it was 11:30 when they flashed a gun and demanded money. the clerk handed over about $300 and the suspects fled from the scene. a gas station cust mr. was beaten and robbed in front of

a security camera in east oak lane. you can see three people attacking the 19-year-old outside that sunoco last friday. they punched him and kicked him repeatedly and then took his cell phone before he broke free and got help from the store. police are still looking for all three men who ran from the scene here on the 400 block of cheltenham avenue. the victim is going to be okay. >> firefighters are still trying to determine what started a fire that badly damaged a home in bucks county. this viewer video shows smoke pouring from the house as crews work to get it under control. the flames started about 7:00 a.m. in the unit block of red cedar lane in levittown. firefighters say two dogs died. there were no reported injuries. a domestic dispute throwed a car crash and some frightening moments for a young child in the back seat. this car came to a stop when it hit a house at the intersection of d street and lowden street in the feltonville section of the city shortly before 1:00 a.m. the male driver ran away. the female passenger grabbed a

child in a car seat and attempted to chase after the man. police caught up with her a short time later. the child was not hurt. >> we are coming home. those are the emotional words behind groundbreaking in wilmington today. the reverend cleveland brock was joined by parishioners from his new jerusalem missionary baptist church on that very spot where the building burned down one year ago. after a vow to rebuild in the same police here on sand mere avenue and months of work to make that happen today they put shovels to dirt. >> it has been a difficult challenge this year but god has shown himself in many ways. >> that church was struck by two separate fires back in december of last year which destroyed much of that structure. the cause was never officially determined. >> all right. time right now for a check of the traffic report on a friday afternoon. >> friday, we made it. matt pelman standing by in the

"action news" traffic center. looks like a very smooth ride thus at a. >> nothing too ground breaking on the traffic front this afternoon. we starter out busier earlier this afternoon. there was a broken down vehicle on the vine eastbound approaching 95. got it cleared out of the way. still stacking slightly as you approach 95 but not as bad as a normal afternoon and some more good news coming out of queen village. they finally finished the work on the water main break along columbus boulevard southbound just in time for tomorrow night's new year's eve festivities at penn's landing so everything is opened. three southbound lanes back in business along columbus boulevard. but the business is slow on the schuylkill of course. 15 miles per hour as you head eastbound there by girard and we're getting set for an opening at the tacony palmyra bridge coming up in just about 15 minutes or so. start heading for that betsy ross bridge instead. camera time in delco. this is 95 right at the pennsylvania-delaware state line by the welcome center. there's are a disabled vehicle off to the side northbound. traffic is a little sluggish but not too bad.

the u.s. coast guards still airi shortly after takeoff it family members say the pilot is john fleming, the ceo of the superior beverage company. his wife, two sons and two neighbors were all with him. crews have not found any sign of that plane thus far. >> i'm always hopeful whenever we're still conducting the search out there. i truly believe we're going to find something. haven't done search and rescue cases myself as a pilot. every time i go out i'm looking to find a needle in a haystack and i'm hopeful i'll do that. >> the search is focusing on a section of that lake where the water is about 50 feet deep. >> family members say they are planning a joint mother-daughter funeral for hollywood legends debbie reynolds and carrie fisher. the 84-year-old reynolds died from a stroke on just one day after the passing of her famous 60-year-old e a look back at the duo loving

>> i would do it. >> you would be gumby, right. >> i would totally do it. put it on and head down the slopes. that will get some attention. sky6 live spring mountain we have the boarders and skiers out here a good amount of them and the little ones here getting a l and also they got a food truck right there, kind of set it in order and get one back but we'll take this cold weather today but this is kind of abnormal for the month of december thisear for the last six years. in fact we take a look at december temperatures in philad running pun .3 above normal this year. last year we have an asterisk here because it was a blow torch, a record high december with temperatures running 13.7 degrees aboyou can see theo down to 2012, even 2011 was above normal for degrees. you have to go back to 2010 before it went below ski resorts really struggling the last six years the month of dec to get some snow.

winds gusting today, kind of whipping from the west, they right now in philadelphia, clocking in 25 allentown, 30 lancaster, 23 millville and the same for dover. as we look at wind chills, feels like the upper 20's to we. below freezing even along i-95 and below freezing even down to the south millville and the atlantic city airport not hitting that 32-degree threshold this afternoon. a lot of clouds spilled in as expected this afternoon because of that cold unstableaif lake effect snow showers to break their way into parts of the region today but they kind of fell, hit the ground and melted right away. mostly clear tonight. less wind, though. we're going to pull them back to about seven to 14 miles an hour with air temperatures in the 20's. as we look at the day forecast here for tomorrow, a lot of sun and some high clouds. kind of a milky white appearance to the sky. winds do kick back up between 10 and 20 miles an hour. air temperatures above average in the middle 40's for most of us and in fact as we go

through the evening hours down at penn'sfireworks landing or wherever you're going tomorrow evening, not bad. temperatures stay in the 40's all the way through midnight. again a bit of a wind so it will feel like it's in the 30's but really can't complain. as we look at that four day at 4:00 forecast here, 45 tomorrow, rather breezy but some high clouds around and then the sunshine is in full force sunday for the eagles and mummers, 50 for a high in the afternoon. it is raw damp and rainy here on monday, at times, a lot of drizzle at 48 degrees and then periods of rain continue but much milder on tuesday up to 60 degrees. so, again, ski resorts having a hard time going into the new year with more rain, warm temperatures we'll see if we can kind of flip that page with the seven day coming up in the next half hour. >> okay adam thank you. penn state football fans are leaving this weather behind heading to pasadena california for the rose bottom of the beltway harrisburg international airport is

>> ♪ >> a fun afternoon for children to make some spare change ended with a visit unfortunately from police. nine-year-old friends were out selling lemonade outside their apartment near tampa florida when two teens approached the the teens didn't like the drink which led to a verbal argument. that is when 18-year-old deonte small 16-year-old stole an ipod and 14 bucks

cash the little kids earned. >> innocent sitting there with a box magic markers construction paper. >> well, the little boy does admit he poured water on one of the suspects during the argument but his mom says that's no reason to steal from the children. undeterred by the crime the kids were back out at the lemonade stand the next day. >> well, major mixup is messing way chicago college student's plans for the future and here's why. ashley walker has been mistakenly declared dead. she's only one year away from graduating. that's in jeopardy because she may not get financial aid. walker traces the issue back to her father's death in august. a few months after he passed away a company declined to give her internet service and she got called into her college's financial aid office much after that came a trip to the social security office where they told her she was dead. >> i looked at them and i said august 31st and he looked and he said ya'. i said that's the day my

on christmas eve and police say the suspected gunman intended to kill buck's grandson but shot her instead. "action news" reporter annie mccormick has the latest. >> reporter: family and friends arrived at saint mary magdalene church for their final goodbye to 81-year-old marie buck the beloved grandmother killed in her corner store on christmas eve. yesterday homicide captain james clark announced charges against 31-year-old maurice green. police say he shot buck 11 times. the motive, a according to police a dispute with buck's grandson over an expensive gold chain. buck's grandson allegedly stole from it green and the suspect apparently went to the store to confront him. >> we think he went there with the intention of shooting and killing the grandson. he opened the door, he saw the grandmother and at that point he made the choice that he was going to kill the grandmother since he was not there. >> reporter: buck was so popular throughout her south philadelphia neighborhood hundreds turned out to show their respects last night and at a second viewing this morning and then to a funeral

ryan seacrest once again is hosting the biggest new year's eve party in the world on 6ab 6abc. dick clark's new year's rocking eve starts tomorrow night at 8:00. >> three, two, one. a large area of chester county will get 24 hour police coverage starting january 1st. departments are joining fors to become the southern chester county regional department. all police cruisers will get repainted and the officers will be getting new uniforms and badges. police tell us the change will provide better service to both communities. >> merging your services creates an e those are passed along to the community. public tax dollars are hard to come by and we want to make sure we're doing the right thing with them. >> before this west grove only had a part-time policedepartmen. the newly formed regional department will start out with 21 officers with plans to hire more as the year unfolds. >> a delaware county animal shelter wants you to ring in the new year by adopting a new pet. these are some of the adorable pups available at the providence animal center in media. this weekend the adoption fees will be reduced to just $20 and they're hoping that discount will bring in more people in the door. take advantage of the deal

>> ♪ >> the case of a man killed by a police officer in south carolina will now get another look from a new jury next year. a marie trial date has been set for the former north charleston officer michael slager. he's accused of gunning down walter scott as he fran a traffic stop in 2015. a mistrial was declared earlier this month when the jury could not reach a unanimous decision on a murder

charge. a worker in houston texas was killed after he was crushed by granite slabs. officials say employees at a stone company were loading granite slabs onto the truck when one of them fell off and crushed the man. inve he died instantly. it's reportestrong gusts of through at that time. >> a nine-year-old girl remains hospitalized from a ski lift accident that killed the 40-year-old mother died when she and her two daughters fell 20 feet out of a lift at granby ranch. the nine-year-old is seriously hurt. chair lifts are normally safe. over the past four decades only 12 people have died from malfunctions. >> it is very rare you'll have a chair lift incident of the 13 million people that go skiing every year it's very rare. >> authorities say this family was visiting from texas. the lift at ski granby ranch

but good news on columbus boulevard. all southbound lanes reopened as of about 12:30 today. they've finished the repair work on the water main. tacony palmyra bridge back old. the delaware memorial bridge has been really slow this afternoon getting into delaware. we started around 1 o'clock way broken down truck but that's been gone for awhile. still those speeds just in the teens heading into delaware. then you join up with delays on 95 southbound and 495 southbound. also have a crash that we're watching in pennsville along broadway close to herron avenue there by the pennsville shopping center where the acme is. two issues this afternoon on 42 southbound. a crash by 130 just cleared out of the way but still speeds in the 20's coming off the walt whitman bridge. and then farther south where we had the big accident yesterday northbound there was another crash but that's gone cleared out of the way by sicklerville. in edgewater park by holiday ice cream, i like ice cream on the holidays or any other time there's a crash along 130 near bridgeboro road and the 15

in the poconos. this is great weather to make some snow up there in natural ss they got today. 30 right now in millville, feeling like 31 at shore. there's in low winding up. they got over 2 feet of snow in maine over the last 24 to 36 hours. that low is moving away and again those snow showers beginning to fall apart kind of working with that daylight kind of interacts with some of those great la have yet to freeze over at this point. once the sun sets that lake effect snow machine shuts off so it turns clear overnight, less wind 24 in allentown, 28 in philadelphia, 27 in dover. high pressure just off the coast. in the summertime this is what we call a bermuda high as it pumps in the heat and humidity it will pump in warmer temperatures tomorrow. 45 degrees way milky white sky. winds still 10 to 20 so that 45 may kick back into the upper 30's new year's eve. front comes through at night, dry and it sets up for a new high pressure coming from the

the big story on "action news" is the investigation into that crime spree that dates back to october. >> new at 5:00 "action news" reporter chad pradelli spoke to one of the victim's relatives. easton night in upper darby police and chad you've got the details. >> reporter: yeah, brian, police say a group of teens was terrorizing upper darby residents in october. now detectives are trying to figure out if others connected to this group struck again last night. the victim says three teens stormed into the house here on the 100 block of pen knock avenue in upper darby last night. they had guns drawn. the victim and her three nieces and nephews had just walk into the house. police believe the teens were watching ready to pounce on someone appearing to be an easy target. they ransacked the upstairs, stole cash and other valuables then fled except one assailant was left behind and picked up on the streets by police. this woman who doesn't want to be named is the sister of the aunt.

>> everybody's fine. we're just very thankful to god that nobody was hurt and possessions can be replaced. >> reporter: upper darby investigators believe the crew may be tied to a group who committed a rash of carjackings and robberies in october. including one carjacking at park view and oakly around the corner from yesterday's home invasion. those teens would target women in the area. the victim from yesterday says the teens demanded her car keys but eventually fled without the car when she didn't produce the keys fast enough. >> i would like to say to them they need to find their saviour jesus christ and to repent to put their faith in him and to stop doing this. >> reporter: and three plainclothes officers here from upper darby police did arrest three juveniles in october connected to those carjackings. sources tell me that these teens simply took the vehicles for fun and would ditch the vehicles in and around 34th street near the philadelphia sea. live in upper darby, chad
