jefferson university hospital. lincoln drive is open in that area. security will be extremely tight in new york city in time square tonight where as many as a million people are expected to cram in and celebrate the new year. yesterday the crystal ball was getting ready for its close up, there it is. given a test run. organizers flipped the switch for a rehearsal yesterday. the waterford crystal ball has 32,000 crystal lights, it ascends to the top of the pole at one time square and back down again at midnight tonight. excitement is building for the new year's eve fireworks that will be set off over penns landing, happening at 6:00 p.m. and of course at midnight. several hotels like the hilton at penns landing are preparing for multiple new year's eve party tonight. franklin square if you have not seen it so far, the electrical

firefighters tamed a massive inferno that wiped out 14 business in new york city. three firefighters were hurt battling the blaze. they got the call in queens in 3 minutes. but by then flames were racing through concealed spaces spreading from store to store. the stores were fixtures in the queens community for generations. >> it's been here our whole life and we just watched the

trump is praising russian vladimir putin, he tweeted that putin was very smart and not retaliating against new u.s. sanctions put in place by president obama for the alleged hacking into the u.s. election. putin said he would not respond to the sanctions put in place as pay back for the interference. that leaves a questions about russian relations. >> this is not a new cold war, it's cold war 22.0. it's been going on for several years. >> reporter: trump doubts that russia hacked into the democratic e-mails to skew the vote in his favor.

forecast for today, high temperatures topping out at 47 degrees, look for a gradual increase in clouds. overnight tonight, as we ring in the new year, 6:00, 43, midnight, 40, clouds and mild. a lot of buzz going around about this. up to this point we have not had much to talk about. next weekend we're watching a coastal storm. this time around there will be a lot of cold air in place. here's philadelphia here, there's an arctic front that will drop down to the south. it will stall over the virginias and the carolinas, this is all cold air up here. a wave of low pressure will develop. this is next weekend. the question is where the does the low travel. it's pretty much up in the air a lot of models take it off the coast of the carolinas. if it travels farther to the south, all this precipitation gets pulled to the south. it's something we have to watch closely. this is our best chance up to this point to see a little bit of accumulating snow which would

shots were fired at the oakdale theater in wallingford. they have not linked the shooting to the performance or meek mill. a woman was critically injured after being hit by an suv in northeast philadelphia. this happened at 9th around 11:10 p.m. driver told police the woman ran out into the street. she was behaving erratically before the crash. the driver was not charged. one person was killed and three others hurt in a three car crash in medford, last night. chopper 6 hd was above the seen a car collided with an suv, no worthed on what caused the crash. there will be extra security in place to insure that everyone enjoys a safe celebration as we ring in 2017. the big draw of course, will be the magnificent fireworks
