have identified a pennsylvania state trooper killed in the line of duty and the search for the man who killed him is on going at this hour. trooper landon weaver was shot in heston huntington county. he was handling a protection from abuse complaint. jason robison pulled the trigger. that's a look at him right there. he has not been caught. law enforcement using helicopters to aid in the search. some residents were evacuated as a precaution. >> we've seen two helicopters i couldn't tell how many cop cars, under cover cop cars have gone by, so it's been everything, i hope it gets sorted out. >> there are five or six families down there, and some of their family is home, and the rest of us are waiting in the church parking lot hoping we can get home soon. state police say that robison is considered armed and

dangerous, his hair may be dyed purple. if anyone spots him they are asked to call police immediately. in a statement governor wolf said -- weaver had just enlisted a year ago. he adelso adelso matos oh oh there will be extra security in place to make sure everyone enjoys a safe celebration as we ring in 2017. the big draw will be the fireworks at penns landing at p.m. and again at midnight. jeff chirico explains there are plenty of ways to ring in the new year in the city of

over the past five years, decembers have been above average. 2012, above average. i believe this was the year the eagles played the lions in all the snow, there was snow in the month of december. generally speaking all the decembers have been well above seasonal averages. last year it was 14 degrees above average. this december, 1.3 above average right now. we should end the month about a degree and half above normal. will january follow that lead? we'll see, there are changes coming in the seven day forecast. 47 degrees is the forecasted high for today. another day above seasonal averages, starting out at 31. 33 now. 28 in allentown. 35 for millville. cape may, 39 degrees. trenton, 30. lancaster and reading you're cooling, temperatures are in the upper 20s, low 30s. winds speeds for the most part are on the lighter side 3 to 5 miles per hour, every now and then you see it go up a bit.

nothing like the 45-mile an hour gusts. that's how it will stay today, we're forecasting winds out of the southwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour. high, thin clouds over us now, thicker clouds to the west. they will lower and thicken during the afternoon. we'll have mainly cloudy skies from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on. what that will do is help to keep temperatures fairly mild because all the sun's energy gets trapped close to the ground with all that cloud cover. it can't escape back in the atmosphere, the result is warmer temperatures. it will be mild this evening. 8:00 p.m., there could be a flurry or spritz or sprinkle, the air is so dry it will evaporate before it reaches the ground. midnight, looks clothed and dry, lots of sunshine new year's day. new year's day we could hit 50 degrees, warmer stuff is on the way.

related crashes. national highway traffic administration says 139 people were killed nationwide in drunk driving crashes during the holiday week last year. in pennsylvania state police responded to 400 crashes over new year's. more than 10% of them were alcohol related and more than 300 people were arrested for dui over the holiday. pennsylvania senator bob casey and other state officials want to keep $23 million in federal funding to expand internet service. the money was offered to verizon to rural customers in pennsylvania. verizon turned the job down, meaning the money could go somewhere else. senator casey is lobbying the fcc to give the money to another provider so the rural customers can benefit. a driver picked up an extra purr. he discovered the feline when he
