raak will land? >> reporter: well, jim, good evening. we expect him at some point tonight and again going back to the airport istanbul raak spoke with news crews there. he talked about how grateful he was to the fact that he gets to come home where so many people who were killed in that attack aren't. now, he's going to come walking through -- i should say he'll be brought through these doors just behind us here. this is the international arrivals hall at the airport. the exact time we're not sure. right now we're just going have to wait. jacob raak knows he almost didn't make it to the airport in istanbul to go home. he knows he was almost killed. like the 39 others that were inside the nightclub he went to on new year's eve. >> me i wake up in the united states. i eat breakfast. you guys wake up and have to think of this. it's so, so sad. i really wish everybody here the best. >> reporter: after he was pushed through the airport on a gurney, then helped onto a wheelchair raak the lone

american wounded in the club spoke to reporters. >> i was with nine people. seven of us were shot. >> reporter: almost 70 were injured and again 39 were killed. as of now authorities are still looking for the shooter. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack calling the shooter a soldier. the gunman walked into the club as a new year's celebration was under way and opened fire. raak tells reporters that he as well as many others played dead. raak also said he continued to play dead after he was shot. video was captured right before he was rushed to the hospital. >> by even shot in the leg man. crazy people came in shooting up everything. i don't know. i saw one person. >> reporter: he was struck in the hip and he says his cell phone blocked part of the bullet and redirected it into his knee. doctors tell him that likely saved his life. >> i would say, you know, it's a very good country and it's so unfortunate that this is happening and i really feel for everybody here.

>> reporter: another live look at the airport here. again, that is where raak is going to be coming through. the exact time again we're not sure. his family tells us it's been hard to communicate with him since his cell phone was destroyed by that bullet. for now reporting live at the philadelphia international airport, bob brooks channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you, bob. world news tonight will have continuing coverage of the nightclub attack in turkey. that is next at 6:30 right here on channel6. it has been a dreary start to the first week of the new year. tourists braved the raw wet weather to check out the rocky statue in front of the philadelphia museum of art. let's go meteorologist cecily tynan and trouble scan radar for the full story from accuweather. cecily. >> hi, jim. the good news is that this round of rain is drawing a close. double scan live showing the system, that low pressure that brought us generally less than a half inch of rain through the day is moving out to sea taking the rain with it. however, there's another system waiting in the wings

and facebook. philadelphia police are searching for a motive in a deadly shooting in north philadelphia. gunfire erupted on the 2800 block of north park avenue just before 9:00 this morning. the gunman shot a 23-year-old man four times. the victim was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. there have been no arrests. chester police are investigating the first homicide of the year in that city. police responded to the intersection of 22nd and howard streets at 8:05 this morning. that's where a 24-year-old man was found dead in the driver's seat of a car. police say it appears the victim suffered multiple gun shot wounds. a new year means a host of new beginnings and in philadelphia it is the beginning of a new beverage tax. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live at the shop rite at frankford and morell in northeast philadelphia. john, how are customers reacting to the new levy tonight? >> reporter: well, no one

actually welcomed the idea of paying more for items they buy all the time. that said there is some confusion at the consumer level as some stores have raised prices, others have not. shoppers today checking receipts to gauge the impact of the new philadelphia sweet tend beverage tax. different retailers different takes. at the aldie on grant avenue no indication of a price increase so far. this giant referred us to a corporate spokesperson who had not responded by air time. acme is adding the cost to the tax one point half cents an ounce so this 20-ounce soda that was $1.88 up to $2.18. shop rite says in the interest of transparency it wants customers to realize what is driving prices up. displaying in it black and white. the primary shelf tags show the untaxed price but below them in the yellow the full tax that will be added at the register imprinted as a second line item on receipts. tom baker bought this pack of

iced teas $6.49. the tax passed through. >> didn't finds the line item. $3.24. >> reporter: so that's on top of the $6.49. >> on top of the $6.49. >> reporter: chuck andrews pick up this $1.77-gallon jug of team he got home and looked at his receipt. >> i read the receipt. i'm like wait a minute. i paid more in tax than i did for the product. >> reporter: the tax $1.92 which he says is okay but he would rather have the full cost posted in one inclusive shelf tag. >> that's what my complaint is. this was not inclusive. >> reporter: inclusive or not others today in particularly those who live near a city border claiming. >> i'll probably go buy my sodas and drinks, sweet drinks out of the city. >> reporter: well, whether city based stores are going to be hurt as people go across the border remains to be seen. the city today reiterated this is an excise tax that is on the districts that it does not

have to, meaning the distributors do not have to pass the costs down to their customers at this point. suggesting that the distributors could absorb the cost by slightly lessening their seven figure bonuses. live in northeast philadelphia, john rawlins channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, john. the fbi and philadelphia police are hunting for a pair of armed robbers who held up the td bank on east butler street in port richmond this afternoon and the duo may be responsible for three other holdups since the middle of december including two on the same day. the other robberies were in chestnut hill, wissahickon and upper darby. in pasadena, california penn state is playing the grand daddy of them all, the rose bowl game against usc. currently usc winning 13 to nothing. to track down a man who has been exposing himself to women including teenaged girls. "action news" reporter walter perez has details. >> reporter: the most recent case occurred last friday afternoon in evesham township. authorities tell us a heavyset man in a jeep got out of his vehicle and simply started running toward a pair of teenaged girls. the man was reportedly wearing nothing but a pair of sneakers. the girls quickly ran to their homes and were not injured. meanwhile two other very similar cases have been reported in nearby medford township. most recent taking place about two weeks ago on december 20's first. >> the subject drove past the person, came back again and then proceeded to get out of the vehicle completely naked and actually looking through a trash can at one of the resident's house. >> reporter: authorities say the third encounter took place on november 30th. in each of the cases the naked man is described as a heavyset white man with brown hair and an excessive amount of body hair. his vehicle is described as an older model jeep with a white

decal on the right side of the rear window. we spoke with people from both communities who say they want to make sure their neighbors know what's going on. >> keeping an eye out, talking to neighbors, making sure my neighbors are aware. >> reporter: now the man involved has not injured anyone during these cases but authorities and neighbors as you would imagine want this person off the streets. anyone with any information is asked to call police. reporting from evesham township walter perez channel6 "action news." >> thank you, walter. the man who ran against seth williams for philadelphia district attorney in 2009 as a republican is trying again, this time as a democrat. he is a center city attorney and a real estate developer. he's served assistant district attorney under ed rendell and is a deputy state attorney general

>> late word from accuweather and cecily tynan. >> keep the umbrellas on hand tomorrow. more rain is on the way. storm tracker6 live double scan showing right now the highest concentration of showers is really centered near the trenton area, crossing route 70 near lakehurst as well. doylestown getting in on some of the action. this batch is moving out. we've got another one moving in and between the two, we've got lots of low clouds and damp run ways. sky6 taking a look live philadelphia international airport where we do have some ground delays thanks to the low cloud ceiling and as we look ahead the accuweather highlights showing you tomorrow morning when a lot of people return to work, kids return to school, it's going to be a slow commute. not heavy rain, just areas of fog, some drizzle but the roads will be wet so definitely expect delays. the second band of rain likely will have a little bit more moisture than the first. today less than a half inch,

tomorrow additional rain looking like a little more than a half inch closer to three-quarters of an inch of rain in parts of our viewing area but temperatures tomorrow will be warmer than today around 50 degrees. so, it's not going to feel quite as miserable. right now 42 degrees in philadelphia, allentown 38. cape may 44. wilmington 42. but we still have that wind out of the northeast. generally up to about 10 miles per hour so there is a bit of a wind chill, kind of damp and raw. wind chill makes it feel like 36 in philadelphia, feels like 31 in allentown. satellite6 along with action radar showing that this rain is almost out of here. we've got still some light rain hanging across south jersey but that low pressure is moving away. lots of clouds to follow and then there's another storm system waiting in the wings. this low pressure bringing some severe weather, tornado watches across the gulf coast. this low rides to the west and another rides off the coast that brings us another round

of rain right in the day. 10:30 tonight plenty of clouds a few areas of drizzle. heading into tomorrow morning, 8:30, it's cloudy again some patchy drizzle but that steady rain will be here by lunchtime heavy at times. you can see across the viewing area this is all liquid, no freezing rain, no snow and then it lifts out by tomorrow evening by 5 o'clock just a little bit of drizzle left over. behind this system wednesday the pick of the week. we're in between storm systems. that low pressure deepening up to our north and east means it will be a windy day. wind gusts up to about 35 miles per hour. partly sunny. 54, not bad, pretty mild but there's an arctic boundary there will swing through late in the day and this will bring some very cold air for the second half of the week, really right through the weekend. along with it the possibility of some snow showers on friday. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, another rainy day tomorrow. it will be dreary but again, not that cold. the afternoon high 50 degrees

and tonight the overnight low in philadelphia 42 so no freezing rain tonight even the suburbs about 36 degrees. so, temperatures well above freezing. wednesday partly sunny. the winds kick up in the afternoon. the high 54 degrees. and that wind will deliver some cloudy cold conditions on thursday. the high 35 degrees. friday a reinforcing shot of arctic air will bring us the potential for some snow showers. if they happen in the morning, could cause some problems for the morning commute. the high 34 degrees and heading into the weekend that cold air will be holding on. on saturday the high 32 degrees. watching a developing storm, the latest computer models having moving off the eastern seaboard well to our south. i'll keep you posted on that, see if that changes. if it moves up the coast we'll be dealing way snowstorm. on sunday it stays cold actually even colder, 31 degrees and monday mostly sunny with a high of 33, so tomorrow it will be rainy, not cold but that cold air arrives by thursday. >> thank you cecily.

camden's adventure aquarium welcomed the new year with the official debut of the new resident. a baby loggerhead turtle which matched august went on display today. the public is being invited to help name the young turtle. it will live at the aquarium until the fall when it will be released to the waters off north carolina.
