a delaware man survives a terror attack in turkey arrived back home as the manhunt continues for the shooter. and president-elect trump is going after general motors as the new republican led congress is being sworn in. and a home invasion that turned deadly when the victim turned the table on the attackers. two men burst into a home where a couple were getting ready for bed. annie mccormick is live near the scene where this unfolded in the frankford section of philadelphia. >> reporter: and sara, those little girls that were inside of the home at the time of the home invasion, luckily were mot injured and the accomplice ran when one was shot and killed. >> i heard six shots -- >> 11:00 last night block street

captain lenny heard the shot. >> upon police arrival they found two shooting victimed. one victim was the 26-year-old homeowner. and the other one of the robbers. they forced their way inside after the homeowner forced themselves into the door. the wife had the young daughters. and the homeowner kept them at bay and he was shot twice and then fought back. >> the homeowner had a weapon in his possession and fired multiple shots striking one perpetrator in the head. >> i witnessed the officers got the wife out and when they got the wife out the homeowner started crawling because i believe he was shot as well and came crawling to the front steps. >> the police declared the shooter dead at the scene and the other ran off. >> the homeowner was brought to

this morning and the bulk of this is pushed all the way past new york and we begin to see breaks to the south and a yellow patch here and there and that means there will be steadier rain cells coming in and there is the closer view at stormtracker 6 live double scan most of what we have now is moderate to steady rain and every now and then a heavier cell like the big batch of yellow west of wilmington. and we give you the movement, this is moving up from the south with a tragedy ectory to the northeast. and every now and then the cell producing the ponding and puddling on the roads. the northern suburbs we haven't gotten into that. and steady enough rain to produce ponding and puddling on roads and probably worse south where the heavier cells are popping up in yellow and down in seasonal, that is where the breakup is occurring. a heavier cell moving foo cape may and a cell popping up into

a 16-year-old girl is now facing charges following a violent encounter with a police officer. this instagram video shows police sponing to a call for a person with a weapon at 54th and springfield yesterday. they arrived to find a large group of teens fighting in the street. the officer forced the girl to the ground and jumped on top of her and hitting her. but commissioner richard ross says the video does not tell the whole story. >> one thing that that does not capture on video, is that she smacked the officer in the face knocking her glasses off her face. that officer remains off the street pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation. an all out search continues

for a 6-year-old boy in aurora, colorado, missing since new years eve. david puckett left wearing only a light jacket. law enforcement and other agencies joined in the search for the little boy. and an amber alert is issued. they asked people to check their cars and other places where the child may have taken shelter. and they posted a 10,0$10,000 w ward for his safe return. a day after storms killed five people in two states, they are calling for more dangerous weather. the national weather service is trying to confirm if tornadoes hit the region and more strong storms are coming to alabama, georgia and the florida panhandle. authorities have recovering more than 100 pieces of debris possibly from a missing plane in ohio. the plane was flying from cleveland to columbus with six

people on board when it disappeared from radar, over lake eerie last week. the pilot was a business executive flying his family and his neighbors to a cleveland cavaliers game. the debris in the water was consistent with the type of plane that vanished. the search is on for three thiefs that got away with a fortune during the ball drop in new york city. it shows them breaking into the store of a high end julie designer at 12:01 a.m. while 7,000 police officers patrolled the area, they got away with $6 million worth of jewels from a safe. they are wondering if it's an inside job. >> there are pieces of inside information as to how this place operates and the apparatus both outside and inside. >> they fled the building through a fire escape stairwell.

a 2-year-old boy mustered up the strength to save his brother from a dresser that fell on top of them. the twin moves around looking for a way to move it and eventually was able to push the dresser away enough for the brother to wiggle free. both children are okay, the mom and dad bolted the dresser to the wall immediately and posted it as a wake-up call to other parents. pretty incredible. the philadelphia orchestra is taking people on a musical journey to europe. we have a preview kicking off next week. plus, a cancer patient and her soldier husband is bringing home four new additions to their family after giving birth to healthy quadruplets in tennessee.

custom check points are back to normal around the country after a major outage caused delays last night. it created long lines last evening and tension in border check points in new york and miami and atlanta. some people had to wait hours in line for hours with no help. they say they tried to process travelers as fast as possible. the cause is still unknown.

health check this noon. another way that parents should watch their weight. it could effect their child's development. they found that children with obese mothers were likely to have more difficulty with motor control like in their hands and higher developmental delays like feeding and undressing themselves. they surveyed 5,000 children. a soldier and his wife have four tiny reasons to celebrate in this new year. kayla, who is battling cancer and her husband, sergeant charles gaton welcomed quadruplets in tennessee. they were shocked to learn of the pregnancy because kayla just finished up five weeks of chemo, she delivered two girls and two boys, all doing well and getting treatment in the nicu. the "action news" team is out working on news stories today at 4:00.

. david here now with a check of the accuweather forecast. the pretty raw out there. >> the end is coming but probably about four hour as way. we look at stormtracker 6 live double scan you can see there are breaks in the rain but still some heavy cells mixed in and we are looking at a decent amount of rainfall for the next several hours, once we get past 4:00 or 5:00, things get better especially down south. if you get a break great but you'll still watch the water roll off the roadways and then more rain. and every now and then a heavier cell. out in chester county we see a good chunk of gray pass through. and that will put some additional ponding and puddling on the roadway. going out wide things getting betner south jersey and up north a good shield of rain popping through. outside we have the action cam

earlier rain coming down with the cloudy skies above. that is the water works next to the art museum. it's wet out there and on the chilly side. 45 is your current temperature in philadelphia within that northeast wind running through the region at 10 miles per hour it's feeling extra cool out there. 40 in allentown and 43 in trenton and a little better in millville and 50 degrees doesn't feel all that great. future tracker 6 showing you that between now and 3:00 we'll see the bulk of the heavy stuff start to push back philadelphia, and additional showers by 3:00 or 4:00 and drizzle where you don't see the activity rain. by 6:00 i think most of us are looking a lot better and roads are still a bit wet and beginning to drain and getting better in allentown. and later tonight a spoke of additional precipitation is possible especially in the northern areas.

you get the picture. the less rain you see. clouds in the lehigh valley and a high of 44 degrees, at the shore we'll stick with the rain for another two to four hours and 53 degrees and 49 degrees is your high in philadelphia today with lots of clouds and rainy conditions and that temperature possibly popping up later in the afternoon when the rain begins to thin out. the winds are a bit of a factor, 10 to 20 miles per hour. overnight the winds drop down and the rain tapers and there is fog around and 43 is the overnight low. with that number possibly rising as we get toward dawn in the morning and tomorrow is a milder day with a high of 54, partly sunny skies andoo a lot better and the winds get blustery in the afternoon and evening and after that we are on the lookout for cold air coming in and arctic blast and along the way thursday night into friday morning, a little light snow is possible. your exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast 49 is today's high and and rainy and
