folks were bundled up because westerly winds are plunging the region into cold temperatures. there was a cold blue in effect tonight and stays in effect until next tuesday. we could also see snow. it is wednesday night. the big story on "action news" tonight is the latest on our polar plunge. meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the big board. >> jim, it's a shock to the system after today's mild high of 54-degrees, 13-degrees above normal. temperatures are stepping down as we head through the week and into the weekend. the next few days, 20-degrees cooler than today, the weekend feeling 25-degrees cooler. those are the air temperatures, not the windchill. the current windchill is cold out there. philadelphia feels 26. pittsburg, windchill is 10.

tomorrow morning windchill in the teens at 7:00. winds not as gusting as today, 18 miles per hour, but windchills won't climb out of the 20s. then tomorrow night, i'm tracking snow. double scan showing a piece of energy rolling through the plains. you can see it's not a big storm system. it's a weak piece of energy moving through tomorrow night through friday morning. the latest models are speeding up the system meaning the snow comes from the west between 8:0, out of here in time for the morning community ending by 5:0. anything untreated could cause delays for the morning commute. well talk about that more in the accuweather forecast. jim? >> we'll have the latest timing

and tracking of the snow at 4:3. bus driver c katrina sanders has been found guilty of death by vehicle in the death of a 93-year-old man. christichristie lleto is there. what is the latest? >> jim miller's son is struggling to understand how this bus driver didn't see his father crossing in the crosswalk. he is pleased by the guilty verdict but doesn't want to see the woman responsible for killing his dad behind bars. >> she wasn't paying attention. she was reading papers. she feels distracted. >> katrina sanders reported that the papers were part of a bus route she wasn't familiar with. just after reading them, she ran

over 93-year-old edward miller. edward miller junior spoke on camera. >> dad stood catty corner from her at the post clear as anyone could be. >> sanders says she didn't see miller but investigators show she operated the bus in a negative manner. a jury found her guilty of homicide by vehicle. >> if you are not paying attention driving a 20-ton bus, you are going to do damage. >> his son verdict and less interested in punishment. >> you think the appropriate thing is to do community services? >> i would like her to go to

churches and schools and say i drove distracted and killed someone's father, someone's husband. don't do what i did. >> sander's attorney says they'll likely appeal the verdict and homicide by vehicle carries a maximum of seven years behind bars. her sentencing will be in the next few days. jim? >> septa is investigating an accident where two trolleys collided one rear ended the other. 46 people were hurt the injuries minor. the crash happened in philadelphia. septa is trying to figure out why the trolleys were traveling close to together. fire caused thousands of dollars in damage after breaking out at the farm last night. it took crews seven hours to bring under control.

they managed to keep the flames from spreading to the greenhouses on the property but the fire destroyed the farm shipping ability. there is no word on a cause. no one was hurt. >> a man accused of killing his estranged wife and avoiding police for weeks will be in court monday. jeremiah monell made his first appearance by video conference. prosecutors say he slashed the throat of tara o'shea in her home december 18th. he did it, says the charge, in front of their 12-year-old son. monell spoke today to answer questions from the judge. >> a verbal sparring match has broken out between top officials over this police provocation. he dropped charges against the

16-year-old who admitted slapping the officer before the officer retaliated. it is not the first time that the d.a. has chosen to disregard his responsibility and look the other way when a police officer is assaulted. then he added a personal attack against williams calling him a morally and ethically challenged playboy. in response he said he will never apologize for relying on standards before taking away someone's freedom. he reminded him that he's prosecuted more police officers than the past two predecessors combined. >> maceys is going ahead with plans to close 48 stores across the country. all told the changes eliminate

100 people were injured when a train crashed in brooklyn. the long island train slammed into a bumper block forcing the front car off the tracks. those not seated went flying. none of the injuries were life threatening. >> investigators are trying to figure out why the train's operator didn't stop before hitting the block. >> in chicago a man with special needs was brutally tortured and streamed on facebook live. he was bound and beaten, his hair was cut with a knife until his scalp bled. several people can be seen eating and laughing as the attack was going on. two people have been arrested one was known from school.
