snow of the season and penndot is getting ready brining i-95 in northeast philadelphia and the schuylkill expressway in center city. in new jersey they were loading the salt trucks at the department of public works facility in lyndonwald and this was the scene today on 95 in newport delaware as big trucks were putting down brine solution there. we have all the bases covered tonight. "action news" reporter sara bloomquist and gray hall are covering the philadelphia area and northern delaware but first lets get the ratest from meteorologist, cecily tynan and adam joseph. >> this is the first time this season that our entire viewing area sees some snow. not a major snow storm though, double scan live radar showing the elongated piece of energy moving out of the ohio valley transferring low pressure off the carolina coast and moving northeast out to sea. this means we'll see snow tonight into the early morning

hours. zoom in on storm tracker we see snow now reaching the ground, kent county, delaware and lynn tells me on facebook it's been snowing an our and beginning to stick and snow starting in wilmington and this is filling in over the next few hours as we head later on tonight. a winter weather advisory is posted starting at 8:00 tonight until 6:00 tomorrow morning. for really all areas south of the pennsylvania turnpike. it's not a winter storm warning because we are looking at generally light snow accumulations and temperatures now down to the freeing point and we are dropping down to the 20s overnight and anything that falls on untreated suffer as will be sticking and temperatures dropping quickly it's going be a light powdery snow and not a wet snow. for details on the timing of the storm lets head of toage able. >> the timing is a benefit for most of us, the steadiest snow is falling when the majority of

us are home in bed, sleeping and dreaming in another world. so between now and 8:00 p.m. the snow is moving in but the steadiesteady est snow doesn't fall until 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 in the morning and then wrapped up and moving out by 4:00 to 6:00 in the morning as it ens from the west to east. and as we look at how much we are expecting here with the four different models but this is for philadelphia specifically but that doesn't change much. an even distribution of what we see a general 1 to 2 inches for most and some areas 3 inches in and around philadelphia and chester and montgomery county and salem county in new jersey and far less into foreign areas like the lehigh valley and dover and the shore. and breaks of sun developing by the morning rush and still slick spots around that we'll have to watch because the temperatures will be low in the 20s and as we

take a look at the road impacts as we go into the morning rush the main roads are minor and a good handle given how early the snow ends and the overpasses could have moderate impacts and same for the driveways and sidewalks. when cecily comes back we'll show you the snowfall expected map for tonight and the second storm over the weekend for some of us on saturday. >> adam thank you. lets go live to newport, delaware and news reporter, gray hall. how is del/dot getting ready for the first bit of snow? >> crews are actually treating the roads since wednesday and work throughout the night and the salt piles are ready and everyone has been waiting on it's snow and we are seeing flurries here in delaware. >> there will be no snow. >> customers at fairfax hardware in delaware are betting on no snow but the workers welcome the

what caused the 16 inch main to break. philadelphia police are trying to track down four men that forced their way into the hope of an 87-year-old man this afternoon in port richmond and they got away with a bundle of cash. "action news" reporter vernon odom has the story. >> reporter: this is the victim of the home invasion, 87-year-old richard, a former teacher at frankford high school. he told detectives at mid-day four men in their 20s somewhering hoodies knocked on his door on the 3400 block of emerald street and his nephew picks up the story from there. >> he said he was from the company and showed a badge and my uncle said he would call to verify, they pushed open the door. >> and said if he didn't give them money they would beat him up. >> the hoodlums ransacked the house and made out with a substantial amount of cash and his cell phone and left on foot

wilmington it's snowing. new jersey and oxford and pushing towards philadelphia. the action cam in wilmington look at that a half hour ago the flakes are falling. allentown and reading 29 and trenton currently. low pressure is moving outside of ohio valley and moving out to sea and this brings us steady rain and snow. while many of us are sleeping overnight. future tracker 6 showing at 11:00 it's steadier filling in at 2:00 the snow reaching all the way to the coast. look how quickly it moves out. by 6:00 it's already moving off the shore. sunshine returning by mid-day.

expected snow north of the pennsylvania turnpike. poconos a coating at best be pennsylvania turnpike to the shore 1 to 3 inches and a ripoff zone from cumberland to kent with a coating to inch of snow. and the bigger storm happens this weekend, we are talking about it all week. saturday a coastal storm emerges from the carolinas and parts virginia beach could get more than 6 inches of snow and the latest models have shifted this a little bit further to the west and we'll get clipped and a winter weather warning is posted for kent, cape may and atlantic county. anywhere from 2 to 6 inches and a sharp cutoff as you move inland this is something you have to watch. could be a bigger event down the shore on saturday than tonight.
