>> morning it is 4:00 a.m. on this friday, january 6. we're on half an hour early this morning to bring you the latest on the first widespread snow of the season. >> a look at storm tracker 6 live shows us the snow is moving out of the area right now. as it fell overnight, it covered and sidewalks, road crews are preparing for a slick commute. let's go outside, sky6 live hd the view city hall, you see the snowflakes blowing in the wind, a winter weather advisory is in effect until 6:30.

karen rogers is keeping an eye on the traffic situation let's get going with meteorologist david murphy and accuweather. >> reporter: i like the blacktop showing through in center city. the heaviest band of snow is over the coast. if you have plans to head out on the garden state parkway, if you give it an hour or so, you'll be in better shape. this snow will be off the coast in the next 15, 20 minutes, there's a light snow shower continuing through philadelphia and another small burst out by reading. this should be it. we were expecting it quickly this morning and indeed appear it is. winter weather advisory has started to fall, southeastern pennsylvania is out of the woods and so is delaware. active snow showers have south jersey counties in the area, including mercer and cape may

county a winter weather advisory. they could drop these counties closer to the coast or sooner than that depends on how conditions improve over the next hour or two. 30 degrees in philadelphia. 26 in allentown. below freezing everywhere outside the cape may, at cape may you're at the freezing mark. we can support snow on the surfaces that have not been pretreated or shoveled. by 7:00 a.m. we're fairly cloudy, a cold temperature of 28. by noon we'll struggle to get back to 32. the high today will be 4 degrees, we'll re-introduce sunshine during the day, but it will be cold and not all that windy today. karen, there's another storm off the coast that looks like it could brush the coast with additional snow, i will have that coming up. >> reporter: it doesn't take much snow to cause problems, as seen here on i-95, there was a

jackknifed tractor-trailer closing i-95 for hours, they towed it away. looks like they were dealing with the remnants of a fuel spill here, as well. all lanes blocked on i-95 between academy and cottman. you can't travel there, it's been that way for hours, it's been that way, they have towed the vehicle away, stick to woodhaven to frankford to bridge, i-95 southbound blocked with a jackknifed tractor-trailer. onto big picture you can see the problems on i-95. 15 miles per hour because of an another accident on i-95. that cleared, but causing a delay. i-95 northbound at the ben franklin bridge. we can see northbound traffic the left lane had been blocked for a while. they cleared the accident out, seeing slow speeds. a good shot of the highway, not that the highway itself is in bad condition. looking at the vine you can see the surface of the roadway.

the highways in pennsylvania you'll be okay, you want to take it easy. you can hardly see any snow at all. this is 42. in the median you see more snow and the main highways in new jersey, looking good, but the secondary roads are snow covered. >> let's look at the major roads, katherine scott is live along the boulevard in northeast philadelphia, hey, katherine. >> reporter: hey, matt. right now the snow is coming down, it's snowing lightly, but it's coming. it's lightened up considerably from overnight. we're at the boulevard you can see the lanes are wet, but they are relatively clear you might see slushy patches or slick spots, but not a whole lot of coverage on the boulevard. you get to the side streets you'll see less block top and more snow. use caution as you head out. two nights ago, the streets

department crews brined the boulevard and the higher elevations of the city and mobilized at 7:00 p.m. to start their salting operations. they have 70 trucks out with 50,000 tons of salt available. the drivers we were speaking to this morning say they have encountered slippery spots, but especially on the neighborhood streets. as you take a live like on the boulevard, you can see there's not a whole lot of traffic. it's early, it's 4:00 a.m., we'll see cars as it gets later. the drivers we've been speaking to have been moving along just fine on the main roads. still best to leave extra time him to clean off your car, i know we're rusty with the snow plan, here we are again, more of a nuisance for the driemples -- drivers we're speaking to. the sidewalks have not been

this is pennsauken camden county, route 70 and route 38. as far as treating the roads, we have department of transportation trucks go through, we saw a lane salt down here on route 70. camden county said they have 100 pieces of equipment ready if the weather does progress beyond the light coating we're seeing they will spread salt and plow over the 1400 miles in the entire county. i can see and hear the roads, we caught up with a couple of people talking about their morning commute and what they are waking up to. >> coming from upper darby township going through pennsauken, working the shuttle at the airport. >> reporter: you have a lot of driving to do. >> i do. >> reporter: so far what have you seen on the roads. >> just a little slippery, not too bad in jersey, but in

pennsylvania. >> reporter: when you were coming out of the house in your neighborhood, what did you see? >> wow, we have snow. >> reporter: wow, we have snow, take a look you can see it glistening right here. the if you are driving there will be puddles, if you drive by a reporter on the side of the road, slow down so they don't get splashed. take your time as you go through, we're not seeing much ice over the roads or freezing at this point so far this morning. reporting live in pennsauken, and channel 6 "action news." annie mccormick. please drivers do not splash annie. >> reporter: this is how it looked along lancaster avenue in wilmington. deldot worked through the night to make sure the roads are clear for drivers.

>> an intense band of lake-effect snow walloped new york. look at that picture. emergency management recommend people in traffic pull off into retail establishment parking lots to let the plow drivers get by and clear the roads. it was frustrating for motorists who were stuck, some of them were so exhausted they ditched their cars on the road and come back for them later. >> reporter: that is why we don't live in buffalo. this is a light snow, it is fairly low impact. we have had accidents, so be careful. route 1 and out to delaware county, it is just wet. the snow is almost over in these spots. storm tracker 6 live double scan, down the coast getting its way off the coast. as we go back in toward philadelphia, this is light snow coming through, probably not

adding too much of an additional impact on the roads. nonetheless if the snowflakes are falling you're slowing it down. we're getting that in jenkintown, malvern, doylestown, and lansdale. the current band is heavier up there and probably over before too much longer. philadelphia about to pick up additional snowflake activity. if we go farther to the west, the last of this, the last band is popping through reading, if you're seeing snowflakes around reading fleetwood is done, lancaster county you're almost finish with this. we have to check out the shore, that's where the heavier band is coming through. that will pop an additional quarter inch on the ground as it passes over you. it will be another 20 minutes before it gets off the coast. i'll leave you with that wide view. thar she goes, behind it we have

light snow around the region. let's get you outside, atlantic city south along the coast, it's looking cold and not real comfortable down there. that pretty much says the story. plus, at the shore you have a little snowflake activity. in atlantic city it's not too bad. current temperature, 30 degrees. winds out of the north at 9 miles per hour. the windchills are in the mid 20s for the most part. a little bit on the cool side. the rest of the snow will get off the coast quickly. we expect by 5:30 a.m. it will be gone, still a flurry around, cloudy by 5:30. by 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., we'll see a break up in the clouds and overall we'll see a mix of sun and clouds. it will be cold, though. 28 degrees by 8:00 a.m. the snow is gone by then, even at the coast. the high is 34 degrees.

similar to yesterday, not all that windy. winds 6 to 12 miles per hour. high temperatures this afternoon in allentown just barely above the freezing mark. 34 in reading. 34 in philadelphia. with the sun getting in on some of the sidewalks and roads we'll probably see some melting even in areas where you'll be above freezing for an hour or so. 36 degrees in millville. 37 in cape may. tomorrow we're watching that coastal storm, still going to be cold around 29 in philadelphia. now looks like the storm might be close enough where it clips the coast with a little bit of light snow. that's during the morning tomorrow. there's 9:00, 2:00, cape may might be seeing snow by then, looks like it pushes away after 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. in most areas. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, clouds and sun today, still cold, high of 34. tomorrow, brisk with that storm mainly off the coast, maybe the coastal communities brushed with more snow. 29 degrees is the high there. it will feel uncomfortable on sunday, brisk and cold high of

28. windchills in the teens all the way. on monday, very cold, 31 degrees probably not as windy, on tuesday, especially early in the day there could be a flurry around or just a brief snow shower, other than that we bounce back to 40 for the high. wednesday looks like we'll go up to the low 50s. and the possibility of rain in the afternoon. >> what difference. >> president-elect will receive a briefing today on the russian hacking report while senior intelligence officials tell congress was more than a tacking. an suv plows into a restaurant with visitors there enjoying a bite and working. >> reporter: jacker knifed tractor-trailer they are trying to clear the road on i-95 southbound between academy and cottman. we'll take you into new jersey and check the snrawl there when we come right back.

>> welcome back, of course we've got mobile 6 are out there taking a look at our snowy and wet conditions. it is on north on broad street in south philadelphia. as david has been pointing out on many of the major roads what you see are wet blacktop. you have to take it easy, you can still skid and have difficulties out there, at least these roads were brined and ready for the morning commute. >> karen how was your trip coming in? >> reporter: i found on residential streets, it was slippery. my residential roads were not brined. new jersey got a little bit more snow here, we're live inool rich township.

the ramps or snowed over, you have to be careful as you're traveling in and around the main roads. the highways looking good. whistles driving on the new jersey turnpike, the road was coming down. some of the road was snow covered. they have done a great job. we're not seeing anybody slipping or sliding. i was surprised when i got on the ramps that there was snow on them after the highways look so good. we have an accident on 295 northbound at 130. you want to watch for the accident blocking the left lane. police on the scene. we see an area of yellow 295, it's an area slower with the left lane blocked. i-95 southbound, this is the big story, i-95 has been shut down for ours, a jackknifed trailer and diesel fuel spill. they have sand they are putting it on the roadways. these police officers and emergency workers do everything, they are out here sweeping it on the main highway trying to

reopen i-95 which has been closed for hours. driving on the schuylkill expressway and i-95 i found it was hard to see the snow they have been treated so well. looking on storm tracker 6 live double scan, you can see it's coming down in spots, you want to be extra careful in reading along 422. you're dry in pottstown around route 100, it's snow in norristown and malvern. it's light snow, in downingtown it's ending, but currently in media, the route 1 media bypass and woodbury, new jersey. as you look along the coastline it intensifies, you see the shades of pink near sea isle city and the atlantic city, be careful driving on the parkway and route 9. >> happening today, senior intelligence officials are briefing president-elect donald trump on their russian hacking report. four officials made their case before the senate armed services

expressway, hard pressed to see if we had any snow. you can see it on the sides of the road. the schuylkill expressway is in great shape, cars moving fine on the schuylkill expressway. well treated and looking good right now. mass transit showing no problems right there. >> reporter: light snow getting off the coast on storm tracker 6 live double scan. right now the garden state parkway picking up this last band. there are other bands to the north and west these will be pushing through over the next hour, hour and a half. 32 by noon, 4 is the high by 3:00 p.m. a mix of clouds and sun, not a lot of wind, but bundle up. 33 degrees by 5:00 p.m. 29 by 7:00 p.m. by the way guys, there's a winter storm watch tomorrow morning starting in the morning and going into the afternoon because of the coastal system. there's concern we get additional snow especially close to the coast.
