santiago. >> a man was bleeding profusely and a woman was yelling help, help. >> security yelled, everybody hit the floor. >> hundreds were evacuated some marching away with their hands in the air. the killing spree ended abruptly as it started. >> he threw the gun on the ground and laid on the ground spread eagle. >> police arrested santiago without a struggle. he flew from anchorage to fort lauderdale legally checking his gun into baggage. his motivate a mystery. >> investigators are scouring the military record to look for signs of posttraumatic stress disorder and they are working to figure out if this is a case of terrorism. santiago was born in union city, new jersey. he was most recently living in alaska. he have's 26 years old. he served in the army national guard assigned to fort dix in 2006 and 2011. his family says he lost his mind after that and was plagued for mental health issues. in november, the fbi interviewed him after concern from coworkers. he told agents that the government was controlling his mind and forcing him to watch isis videos. >> "action news" reporter, dann cuellar and jeff cherco are in fort lauderdale. dan, what have you heard coming through? >> it's level air travelers

stunned and wondering if we need changes down the road at our airports. >> the airport monitors tell of canceled flights to and from fort lauderdale. there are people that had no idea what happened while on a plane. >> i was shocked. >> or what they would do if caught in a horrible tragedy like that. >> i don't know what i would do in a situation like that. it's scary. >> it's unfortunate. we have to better evaluate how to improve security. >> to learn the gunman legally checked his pistol and put it through security to arrive at baggage claim and do what he did. baggage claim is outside the secure area. maybe that should change. >> they open it and take a

chance and fire a gun out here. >> the gunmen was known to the fbi as having mental health issues, turned over to law enforcement in alaska and somehow managed to get his gun back. >> if he has mental health issues, why is he allowed to carry a gun? >> he should not have been allowed to have a license for a gun. >> this is making some nervous about flying anywhere soon. >> it scares me. we are going to florida in february. we are not going to fly. i would rather drive. >> finally, if you are flying out of here tomorrow and even if you are not flying to fort lauderdale, check with your airline first. the reason is this, some of the flights to be used tomorrow morning are stuck in fort lauderdale and some airlines are

is reigniting concerns about so called "soft targets." you pull into th into the air sd you see increased security. >> just so people feel the presence around them. >> the extra officer and protection dogs are precautionary and here to reassure passengers like the rosenberg family. >> i think it gives you peace of mind to see police presence. that's a good thing. >> the added security won't last and the shooting enhances the baggage pick up and arrival hall. both exphoited.

virginia. the storm is south moving over florida. this tracks up the eastern seaboard offshore. over the past 24 hour, this has made a slight jog only 50-miles to the west. that's enough to bring the threat of heavy snow into our region. we have winter storm warnings in effect along the shore. these are the areas hardest hit. we have winter weather advisories into the i-95 corridor also expecting a few inches of accumulating snow. future trange tracker showing ad lunchtime, the snow closest to the area. -lehigh valley and poconos barely anything at all. it depends on where you are. for more let's head to adam joseph. adam? >> the hardest hit is around lunch time.

lehigh valley, just flurries. the heaviest starts around the i-95 corridor, most of the snow fall 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the shore and kel ware and new jersey 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. it's a longer duration storm the closer you are to shore and far less north and west of philadelphia. windchill a major fact or with the storm. teens blowing drifting snow. across the board, five to 12 is how it felt throughout the day. we have more in the full forecast. >> adam, thank you. i think. the morning team will be on the air at 5:30 a.m. with the latest on this coastal storm. three allentown police officers are recovering tonight from a

dangerous co confrontation while trying to serve a warrant. a fugitive tried to flee in his car and drove into the officers. officers fired their weapons and struck the driver in the leg. he's in stable condition. the suspect was wanted by new york city police for attempted homicide. the lehigh county district attorney's preliminary opinion is that the police shooting was justified. police took a sword wielding man in custody outside of city hall. when an officer confronted the suspect, the armed man pulled out a gun. he was apprehended without violence. the ice rink feet away was evacuated during the confrontation. politics now, president elect donald trump got the goods on russian hacking today at a

briefing at trump tower. the heads of the four biggest intelligence agencies told trump vladimir putin aimed at the u.s. election to undermine faith in the process and undermine hilary clinton's potential presidency. putin developed a clear preference for trump. trump said only that it was a great meeting and he learned a lot. he insisted whatever russia did had no effect on the election. >> looks like the american taxpayers will pay for trump's wall. republicans are coming up with a plan to allow congress to pay for fencing, not really a wall, in its annual spending bills. the spending plan will speed up the process but "we'll be

1800 block of sant um road. the driver stopped but no word on what led to the collision. >> a pizza deliveryman shot by two police officers will receive $4 million from the city of philadelphia. the 23-year-old suffers from a seizure disorder and brain damage after being shot in 2014. the officers thought holland was the shooter joffe shooter invola shooting a few blocks away. >> tolls are going up on the turnpike. the 6% hike affects cash and easy pay drivers. the hike will support repairs and mass transit through the state. this won't be the last hike. they expect to raise rates every year for the next 27 years.

the final jobs report under president obama's tenure shows a tick up in the unemployment rate to 4.7%. hiring did not meet expectations. employers added 156,000 jobs in december expected 175,000. the good news is that wages rose by the fastest pace in more than seven years. michelle obama made her final speech as first lady today. it was an emotional one. she spoke before school chancellors at the white house. she addressed the nation's young people. she spoke about the power of dreams and discrimination. finally, she choked up when it was time to say goodbye. >> i want to close the day by simply saying thank you. thank you for everything you do for our kid and our country. being your first lady has been the greatest honor of my life.

push in within the next five hours. temperatures show it's cold enough for snow, the high 32. 26 in philadelphia, 21 in redding. the air temperature in the pocono, ten degrees. satellite 6 along with action radar, you can see it's snowing in norfolk, virginia. this is a long duration storm. the low pressure, center of the storm still over the gulf of mexico moving into florida right now tracking up the coast. that brings a lot of moisture to parts of the viewing area. the farther east the more snow you see. snow starting, the tip of cape may, 9:00, you wake up in philadelphia, snowing heavy snow south jersey, by 1:00, you see how the line makes it further north and west than the southern lehigh valley moving out to see

for the evening. we are looking at a substantial amount of snow for parts of our viewing area. the northwest suburbs, not a major event, a coating to an inch of snow. the i-95 corridor, a solid one to three inches, south jersey, three to six incheses. parts of cape may and sussex county get more than six inches of snow. this is the hardest hit area around the coast, around six inches, isolated seven to eight inches. a great day, sat. stay indoors. travel will be dangerous not just the snow but the cold and windchill 7-degrees. the seven-day forecast, snow arriving tomorrow early, most of the day snowing i-95 and areas to the southeast, the high 29-degrees.
