you, 6:00 a.m., saturday, january 7. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news." a nor'easter is moving across the area from the jersey shore north. we are tracking the storm and bringing you the latest on how much snow you will see where you live. a man is shot seven times

in north philadelphia. and word on whom donald trump blames for russia cyber hacking. first, the tri-state area will see snow from the nor'easter. the jersey shore that will bear the brunt of the storm. sky6 live hd taking you live to cape may, new jersey, where we've been seeing the snow falling for a while right now. the snowfall will fall as far as the lehigh valley, we'll see a few inches in the city of philadelphia. it is the shorepoints that will see the most significant amounts of snow today. let's go over to meteorologist chris sowers at the "action news" big board with more from accuweather. chris, this is the day, snow is here. >> reporter: this is the day. as you were mentioning, the jersey shore that will pick up the heaviest amounts of snow. because it's a coastal storm they will see more. it's a huge system. it's snowing all the way down into places like alabama, north

of new orleans, louisiana, it's stretching into the ohio and tennessee valleys. it's starting to lift north up the coast, the snow is reaching the ground across south jersey and the delaware bay region and the state of delaware. it is inching closer and closer, it is falling in millville, and buena, vineland. dover, cape may, sea isle, avalon reporting light snow, route 47. route 30, u.s. route 9 all of those roads are starting to see snowfall at this point. with the temperatures as cold as they are, everything will immediately stick. the visibility gives us a good idea where the snow is actually reaching the ground at this point. you can see mainly sussex southern kent county in delaware, cumberland, atlantic and cape may counties in south jersey. we expect the visibility to go downhill as the morning wears on

as the snow lifts to the northwest as we progress along in time. the starting point times looks like, lehigh valley, i-78 corridor, well north and west of philadelphia. look for the snow to begin around midday. i-95 corridor, it will start at 7:00 a.m. it will go into the afternoon. central delaware and southern new jersey it is starting now, it will continue until 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., this afternoon. forecast for today, for philadelphia looks like, snow and cold, becoming windy, that 25 will feel like the teens with the wind. when i come back in just a few minutes, take a look at the snowfall totals, i'll have more of the accuweather forecast. >> this is sky6 live hd overlooking atlantic city. the snow is beginning to move into parts of the area coming in from the south. it's falling in atlantic city. we want to take you live this is

>> reporter: as you pull into the airport you see a major show of force, a boost in philadelphia police presence a direct response to the fatal shooting in fort lauderdale. >> you will see increased patrols of the airport police in the arrival roads and departure roads and ticketing, baggage claim. >> reporter: philadelphia chief inspector for homeland homeland security said the extra officers and protection diagnosis are precautionary to reinsure families like the rosen rosenbergs. the shooting highlights the vulnerability of the airport depart and arrival halls. >> passengers do have guns in their luggage. they are allowed to check guns through security, these go through a scanner there's a photograph taken or x-ray taken of the weapon.

there you can find the latest updates with pictures and videos from the scene, we'll alert you about any new developments over the weekend. new information to tell you about this morning, a man is dead after he was shot at least seven times in north philadelphia. police found him injured on the corner of 10th and clear field around 1:00 a.m. he was pronounced dead at temple university hospital. the victim has only been identified as a man in his 20s. this morning who shot him and why is still not known. a pedestrian was seriously hurt after being hit by a car this happened in south jersey just last night. chopper 6 hd over that scene of the 1800 block of salem road in burlington township. the driver of the car stopped after the crash. the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. u.s. intelligence officials have told president-elect donald trump face-to-face that moscow

snow where you live. >> reporter: arkansas has seen more snow than philadelphia at this point. that's going to change. it's not been a good winter for the snow lovers. we're live on mobile 6, our good buddy alex is drive in atlantic city. the snow is starting to fall. we have covered roads now, testers will play a role in this as to the fluff factor. we're not talking about numbers close to the freezing mark that will keep it from sticking to the roads. we're talking about numbers in the 20s, it will make for dangerous travel conditions, make sure you're very, very careful on the roads today. there's double scan live zoom into south jersey, particularly in cumberland, atlantic city and cape may counties. the brighter shade of white is where the snow is heavy right now. it is well south and east of philadelphia at this time. we'll zoom into atlantic county,

mays landing, estell manor, buena, the snow is flying, atlantic city is right about there. our friend alex is right in through here. the snow is starting to fly. all this will lift north and west as the morning wears on. the visibility report this confirms where the snow is starting to reach the ground. we're down to two miles in millville. this is all of cumberland county. atlantic and cape may counties down to one mile. expect these numbers to decline as the day wears on, as well. here's storm tracker 6 live we set it in motion for you. here's where we're seeing the heavier snow this will be an all outblizzard for the virginia capes and carolinas, they are expecting 15 inches of snow down here. for us, a lot of this will push off the coast. this is kind of like a brush job for us, it will be heavy enough where we see major accumulations down in through here, this part

of the viewing area. there is future tracker 6, 10:00 a.m., it's snowing across the i-95 corridor and all points south and east, probably not snowing in the lehigh valley, but we expect the snow to begin there around midday. look at the deep color blue here, purple or whatever color that is, light lavender, the darker, the shade, the heavier the precipitation will be. 1:00 p.m. it's snowing steadily across south jersey and delaware, 4:00 p.m. it's starting to wind down from west to east. by 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. it is long gone and that's when the temperatures start to crash. the jersey shore this is the area hardest hit we are expecting 6 inches of snow, cape may, atlantic, eastern portions of cumberland county. isolated amounts of 7, 8 inches. it will make for dangerous traveling conditions. the winds will pick up to 30 miles per hour. that will produce windchills as cold as 10 today. this is the 3-inch line right

>> reporter: all right, welcome back everyone, 6:24 saturday morning, snow is falling across south jersey and delaware. not everywhere where you see the white the snow is reaching the ground. the air is dry. we have dewpoints in the teens and 20s down in through here. where you're seeing the brighter shade of white, the snow is starting to reach the ground looking at observation, especially the fog and the visibility is reduced across cape may and atlantic city and cumberland county. this gray shade getting into salem, camden and gloucester counties. him the snow is not reaching the ground there. all this is lifting to the north. let's say you're traveling on route 40 near woodstown it's okay. you travel east, buena or richland, minotola this snow is reaching the ground. alex is in mobile 6 on the white horse pike in atlantic city we have snow-covered roads there. all this is lifting off to the

elements and flames at an spc overnight. >> we're learning about the murderous rampage of a man from new jersey at a florida airport. sky6 live hd looking live over atlantic city. that's the boardwalk. a little white snow there. the southern parts of new jersey will get hit the hardest by the winter storm. it won't be the only area that will see snow today. meteorologist chris sowers has been keeping his eye on the storm and has the latest details from accuweather. >> reporter: if you're not a snow lover, i have good news and bad news, it's going to snow today. when you look at the size of the storm and you think of the amounts parts of the region will pick up with this, we're only

getting brushed. 18 inches in virginia, the virginia cames, hammonton roads area. down in richmond could see a foot of snow. philadelphia getting 2 to 4. jersey shore getting 6 or 7. this is really a brush for our neck of the woods here. there's going to be a fine cut off, too, that's the one thing for these coastal systems, depending on the track, it determines who see the snow and who doesn't. we could see the sun in harrisburg, where it is snowing across south jersey and delaware, throughout the afternoon hours, a tight cut off line with this storm system. we're going to zoom in on storm tracker 6 live, this white shade of gray is where we are picking up flurries. the precipitation may not be reaching ground at this point. the air is dry. glassboro, flurries, steadier snow for hammonton and millville and sea isle city and atlantic city. the visibility has started to reduce.

so we can confirm whose picking up the snow and who is not. millville, 3 miles. atlantic city, 1.3. wildwood, 1.3. this is where the snow is falling at this point. we are expecting the visibility to decrease farther north and west as the morning wears on. in the lehigh valley, looks like start time is around midday. wherewhereas everybody else wile much much sooner. the lehigh valley i-78 corridor it will start around midday, give or take a half-hour or so. it should be light we're not expecting a lot of snow. the range should be midday, 2:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m. after that the snow will stop. forthe i-95 corridor, it will continue until 3:00 p.m. central delaware and new jersey,

people at fort lauderdale at philadelphia international airport. 13 people were shot, so far authorities have not ruled out terrorism. the suspect is 26-year-old esteban santiago. he was born in union city, new jersey. and was living in anchorage alaska. police say he legally checked an unloaded gun and ammunition before boarding a flight from alaska to florida yesterday. after arriving in florida, authorities say he retrieved his gun and loaded it in the bathroom and randomly shot at people in baggage claim. >> he basically threw the gun on the ground and laid on the ground face down spread eagle. he was waiting for the officer to approach him. >> we learned that he served in the army national guard in several states before being discharged and served in iraq. his family said he lost his minds after that and was plagued by mental health issues.

in november he told the fbi that the u.s. government was making him watch islamic state videos. the fallout from the rampage made waves across the nation. dann cuellar talked to travelers at philadelphia international airport. >> reporter: the airport monitors tell the story of canceled flights to and from fort lauderdale. there were people who had no idea what had happened while on the plane. >> i was shocked to see that on the monitors, we came out of akron today. >> reporter: what would they do if they were caught up in the middle of a horrible tragedy like that. >> it's scary. it's unfortunately find a way to better evaluate and improve security here. >> reporter: and then to learn that the gunman checked his pistol and put it in security only to arrive at baggage claim and do what he did. travelers are realizing most baggage claim are outside the

security areas and that should change. >> watch that people get the correct baggage and nobody opens it and takes a chance and fires a gun out here. what's more troubling, the gunman was known to the fbi and had mental health issues and turned over to local enforcement in alaska and was given the gun back. >> he had mental health issues, why was he carrying a gun. >> he should not have a license for a gun. >> reporter: clearly all of this is mick b making some nervous about flying anywhere soon. >> we're going to florida in february, we're not going to fly, i would rather drive. >> as you can see this is giving air travelers a lot to think about. might we be seeing changes in the wake of the terrible tragedy at philadelphia international, i'm dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." >> while authorities say there's no known threat to

philadelphia international airport, there has been a boost in police presence which is, of course, a direct response to the fort lauderdale shooting. philadelphia police tell "action news" there is increased patrols at the arrival roads, departure roads and ticketing and baggage claims. extra officers and protection dogs are recaution -- precautionary and there for public. 6:38 new information to tell you about, quick thinking by a worker at the montgomery county spca saved dozens of animals from the fire. the fire started in the roof of the spc buildings on ridge pike in white marsh township. ten dogs and 15 cats are safe all thanks to the alert worker. >> she went to check where the fire alarm was coming from and

discovered the problem and notified 911 and the fire companies were dispatched she started the evacuation process of animals. >> glad to hear all the animals will be okay. all of them are being related to spc -- relocated to spca in abington and perkiomenville. good news, the fire is under control. fire damaged a home at the jersey shore, flames swept through the second and third floor at a home on the 800 block of plymouth place in ocean city. nobody was home when the fire started. investigators are working to determine what caused it. residents in northeast philadelphia will spend the weekend assessing the damage from a water main break. the basement of several homes were flooded along millbrook road. water destroyed appliances and keepsakes and penetrated the waters and floors. water compartment -- department

north. that particular band is not sitting on top of you for an hour, if you did you would pick up an inch. delsea drive, 535 reporting snow. route 40 from mays landings. that's snow covered, atlantic city expressway. all those roads are seeing snow reaching the ground. which is confirmed with the fog report we're down to 3 miles in visibility in millville because of the falling snow. wildwood, 1 point 3. everybody else is in the clear. it should get in the city of philadelphia probably in the next hour or so. winter storm warnings for the jersey shore, we are preparing for significant accumulations down here, at least 4, 5, 6 inches. the advice is for lighter amounts in the i-95 corridor where we have extended the three inch line and pushed it closer to the city of philadelphia,

we'll run it parallel to the delaware river. i'll show you the totals here in a second. here's the heavier snow down to the south, in the virginias and the carolinas that this is lifting to the north. future tracker 6, 10:00 a.m., snowing in philadelphia. steady snow all of south jersey and delaware, delaware bay region not doing much of anything in the far northwestern suburbs. that will change around midday. we're expecting snowflakes in the lehigh valley. lunchtime, 12:30, give or take. snowing steadily in south jersey and delaware, by 7:00 p.m. the storm pulls away, that's when the winds pick up and it turns icy, icy cold. this is the hardest hit area. you can see 6 inches in cape may, and atlantic city, isolated areas could see 7 inches. one to three for the i-95
