following developing news, a 75-year-old man is in critical condition. this after a heavy dumb bell crashed through his windshield on the new jersey turnpike. the 50-pound weight came flying at his vehicle in salem county. a medical helicopter had to land on the highway to rush the driver to the hospital. "action news" reporter, bob brooks is live along the turnpike with the latest on what happened. bob. >> reporter: sarah and rick i want to stress to everyone you said that 100 percent correct a 50-pound dumb bell came crashing on this man's wind sheild into his suv. it happened on the southbound lanes of the turnpike in oldmen township. the 75-year-old victim is in bad shape. new jersey police are trying to figure out how a 50-pound dumb bell came crashing through the windshield of this gmc this

morning. it was a 50-pound dumb bell. right now the driver is badly hurt in critical condition at the crozer-chester medical center. the good news the state police say the driver, a 75-year-old man was conscious and speaking before being airlifted. chopper 6 hd you can see the shape of the hole made in the suv windshield matches that of a dumb bell. the accident happened in the southbound lanes at 7:30 near mile mark 6. the driver ran off the road and suffered serious injuries. we did speak with state police over the phone, they tell us they have not ruled out the possibility someone may have thrown the dumb bell over one of the overpasses nearby. you can see from chopper 6 hd there are two close to the scene. again, another live look out here, state police say they are investigating the possibility that somebody may have thrown the dumb bell off

one of the overpasses hitting the victim, a # -- 75-year-old man in critical condition. bob brooks, channel 6 "action news." thank you. turning to accuweather, the freezing cold temperatures, the windchills are hovering in the sing digits and teens today. it's a good idea to keep an eye out for slick spots on local roads and sidewalks. melissa magee in for david murphy tracking the latest cold conditions. >> reporter: it's a cold start no longer with temperature in time single digits and teens. we're recovering a little bit, but 32 degrees below the freezing mark. 21 in allentown. 13 in the poconos. 22 in cape may. 21 in dover. now, you look at the windchill across the region and this tells the story, this is why you need the extra layers, gloves and scarves. the winds are not as blustery as yesterday across the region, but it's making for a chill.

lancaster. we'll let you know when it transitions over to freezing rain. rick. >> thank you. some residents have a cold night without heat or water in the kensington section because of a water main break that triggered a sinkhole only the 2100 block of east boston over the weekend. two vehicles were swam lowed up when most of the block collapsed. most are without water and gas service. another large water main break is causing problems in new jersey, a section of market street in trenton was flooded after a 16-inch main broke. the water froze and turned the area into an icy mess. officials had to close the hughes justice complex and the mercer county courthouse building for the rest of the day. nora muchanic has an update on the situation and live report at 12:30. >> a developing situation in orlando, florida, a massive
