to appear on camera. >> i said give me everything and hit me with a shotgun in the face and throw me on the floor and take everything. when they were going to leave they shot me. >> both victims were taken to the hospital and both are expected to be okay. police believe the cases are connected. in west philadelphia police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man that ent screened in a robbery on the 1500 block of girard avenue, barry jones was inside of an apartment with a friend when someone stormed in trying to rob the woman. jones went to stop the suspect and he was shot and killed. >> a man arrested in georgia in delaware county made his first appearance in court today. only "action news" was there as rodney shelton was brought into the courtroom. they say he killed thomas childs in 2015, childs was working at a

truck dryer it happened when shelt on was trying to rob childs. police want your help tracking down this man. look carefully, he is accused of robbing four fast food restaurants in philadelphia. it shows the man breaking into the restaurants through the drive-thru windows and he was able to steal cash from the burker king on christmas eve and less than a week later he targeted three other stores including the same burger king again but this time unsuccessfully. if you have information call philadelphia police. the wilmington firefighters union is speaking out against the new role for the city's former fire chief. anthony good. name aid senior firefighter after the mayor announced a new chief last week. that means goodell gibl to retire in object will get his full pension. the firefighters association calls it unconsciousable.

a chester county horse is recovering after getting stuck in an icy pond this morning. police were called to the scene in mount vernon at 11:00 a.m. they had to use a pick axe to get ricky ricardo the horse to safety. >> reporter: next to me is ricky ricardo himself and his owner kim. letting us come in and do the live report. it looks like ricky will be okay. butter earlier today he gave everyone quite the scare. >> they are using sledge hammers and axes and anything they can to get ricky ricardo out of pond. kim says her owe horse was in the pond for more than an hour. they tied ropes to his halter

breaking news out of south carolina. a jury just sentenced dillon roof the convicted gunman in the charleston church shooting to death. he showed no remorse for shooting nine parishioners in 2015. they were all african-americans, he said he quote, had to do it. roof wants to start a race war he said. >> right now thousands of people are lined up to see president obama's final speech as commander and chief in person. the president returns to his home town of chicago for a farewell address. is he expected to address the economy and health care and many

wal-mart's first training academy in pennsylvania officially opened today. the academy at the super center in hatfield offered hands on and classroom training for wal-mart supervisors, they celebrated with a ribbon cutting and the graduation of the very first class. they plan to open 200 such

cecily tynan is standing by we are getting a brief break from the wintery weather tomorrow. >> temperatures should be up into the 50s and 60s on thursday. and we are live on sky 6 hd taking a look overlooking reading from the pagoda, this is one of the areas that could get freezing rain as we transition to some of the warmer air but today finally we climbed out of the deep freeze, at 1:00 today we climbed above freezing but from 6:00 thursday evening through noon today, temperatures were below freezing that is 114 hours and that is part of the problem, the ground surface is so cold even when air temperatures rise above freezing the rain is falling on a cold surface and that causes the freezing rain. allentown 33 degrees right now and again, the surface is very cold. that is the area that could see the freezing rain. philadelphia 36 right now and cape may 38 degrees with a wind

along east washington street and a sewer contractor was at the site today and six homes are without water and gas. business was back to normal here at the hughes hughes complex in trenton after a water main break yesterday. it broke four to five feet underground on market street and caused an icy mote around the complex and some reads experiences reduced water pressure at the time. an ex-secret service officer trying to solicit sex has plead guilty. lee moore was arrested in 2015 after sending lewd picture to what he thought was a teenager. the online conversations lasted two months and some happened while moore was on duty at the white house. moore plead guilty to the offensive materials to a minor. a man plead guilty -- half

hitting two pedestrians at 11th and market streets, the women were in the crosswalk and struck by a truck and one woman later died from her injuries, gonzales is facing several charges including homicide by vehicle. it was a close call for a store owner in warren county new jersey. a tractor trailer lost control coming down a hill and crashed into the general store cafe, two people heard the collision and ran to the back of the store to avoid being injured and the truck driver is also okay and engineers are trying to determine if the building is secure. towns in new jersey that tried to honor police by painting a blue line on their streets are actually violating a federal policy, the blue center line was painted to show support for law enforcement. but highway administration officials says that blue lines are meant to mark handy capped parking spaces and all the towns were told to get rid of the blue

to see the flashing lights right there by the ben franklin parkway mostly on the side and west of broad street and eastbound is a solid line across town from the schuylkill to 95. vine does close tonight at 11:00 for overnight construction. so don't say i didn't warn you. problem on the drives is on the lincoln drive. a broken down vehicle north of gypsy lane by the old 92nd preaf sink and one of the lanes blocked. and there say crash on the lawndale section at whitaker to watch out for. and the fire department activity close to rittenhouse along rodman street at 16th. down the shore at the garden state parkway it looks like the crash is off to the side because speeds are back up into the mid-60s and a warning for tonight. like last night in buck county, route 1 the super highway will close. starting at 9:00 watch for the

a suspect is in custody after a hostage situation at a credit union in tuscaloosa, alabama. the man went inside and took the employees hostage and then the s.w.a.t. team moved in and captured the gunman. police say the incident started as a bank robbery attempt. 22 states coast-to-coast are living under flood or winter storm alerts and some folks are being rescued from their inundated towns in central and northern california. under a foot of rain that has already come down and six feet of snow is piling up in the sierra mountains and strong winds that hit the rockies. the storm has destroyed an historic drive-thru tree at

yosemite national park, the well known giant sequoia looked like this. it was hollowed out in the 1880s and was shattered when it hit the ground this weekend. they blame rains for toppling the roots of that tree. back here mayor jim kenny continues to advocate for the newly expanded pre-k program, they joined them for snack time and read them a book and some kids are in class for a program that provides quality education to young children for free. the program is paid for by money raised by the sugary beverage tax. >> your life doesn't depend on soda, not like an elismer of life that you need to drink every day. we need to know the importance of taking care of our children

overnight hours. we really have to speed up future tracker here until 11:00 tonight. we start to see blue and freezing rain and berks county and north parts of lancaster county and the poconos 28 degrees and icing in those areas late tonight and it lasts maybe an hour or two before it flips over to plain old rain and by 2:30 in the morning 41 in allentown and 41 in reading and mid-40s philadelphia and 50s showing up here along the shore, a quarter inch of rain across the board here. during the overnight hours but gone by the time we wake up tomorrow morning for the rush hour above the normal for this time of year. we are at 41 at 6:00 in the morning and upper 40s to the south. so if you are traveling anywhere around the lehigh valley or again in northern chester or montgomery or buck county, watch for slick spots overnight and the ground is below freezing
