>> reporter: jim, the search mission is on hold at this hour because of darkness. it is set to resume at 7:00 in the morning. after a day long search across the tuckerton and little harbor bay area, the coast guard state police and the local fire department have called off the search for the night. since 8:00 this morning they've been looking for this clam fisherman christopher hug age 45 who lives about 2 miles down the road. his family tells me he's been fish argue rounds here all of his life. he went out clam fishing yesterday. his family has not heard from him since last night. >> at 8:00 p.m. last night a man who was out fishing in his boat contacted a relative saying that his boat ran aground and was not required assistance and then at 8:00 a.m. this morning we were notified that the man is missing. >> reporter: hug's small boat was located on leather island in the channel but hug was nowhere to be found. >> the boat that was found with the fishing gear on board

was found in little egg harbor at hithering island between the barrier islands and the mainland. this long time friend of chris hug is trying to get a boat ride to hither island tonight to search for him. >> if he's okay he could be hidden in a duck line. they're camouflaged. there's hunting shacks up there too. he knows that place like the back of his hand. >> reporter: again jim that rescue effort set to resume at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. live at tuckerton bake i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news. >> thank you vernon. we hope the temperatures in the 60's this week haven't tricked you into thinking that winter was over. some snow is actually on tap for tomorrow a little bit. philadelphia streets department is preparing the salt trucks tonight here at the depot in feltonville. 70 city trucks will deploy tomorrow morning. let's get the latest on this wintry mix weekend system.

let's go to storm tracker6 live double scan and meteorologist cecily tynan. >> and jim, double scan live showing that there is some moisture riding along a front to our south. it's not a big storm and even now temperatures right now are way too warm for snow but we will be cooling out as we head through the overnight hours. 44 degrees in philadelphia right now but if you look at those arrows, those stream lines from the northwest that's the wind direction. buffalo and binghamton, temperatures in the 20's. we will be dropping into the 20's overnight and then temperatures will be really holding in the 30's. so, the next 12 hours at 1 o'clock in the morning below freezing and then early tomorrow morning 29 degrees so a cold start to your saturday and then some of that moisture will be moving in right around lunchtime. that light snow beginning to break out from the west to the east between about 10 o'clock in the morning and 1 o'clock in the afternoon. so, right around lunchtime. could get a little bit of sleet mixing in south of philadelphia even areas far south, dover, cape may could have a touch of rain. it's a quick hitting system.

it will be all done between 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock and we're looking at a nuisance event a coating to perhaps an inch in some areas so not a big system. i'll have details on what to expect for the rest of the holiday weekend coming up in the full accuweather 7-day forecast. jim. >> thanks cecily. monsignor william lynn was back in philadelphia common pleas court today. his attorney argued that city prosecutors withheld evidence at lynn's first trial. lynn was convicted of child endangerment for failing to investigate allegations of child sexual abuse against a priest. lynn spent 33 months in jail but was released when an appeals court granted him a new trial. now his lawyer says that the withheld evidence should bar a new trial. the judge will rule in march. the man who escaped a police car while handcuffed is back in custody. chopper6 was overhead as the man was taken into police station in northeast philadelphia. it all started with an attempted traffic stop for

reckless driving on the boulevard at 5 o'clock this morning. authorities say the driver struck a police car and two other vehicles. he was apprehended by an off duty state trooper but managed to break out of the vehicle. police caught up with him again at 9:15 on the 900 block of godfrey avenue. there has been another violent crime on the schuylkill river trail in center city philadelphia. a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint at 12:30 this morning. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live on the trail near walnut street. jeanette, what's the full story there? >> reporter: well, jim, the trail here was bustling with people just a few minutes ago. it's when the sun sets that those numbers start to dwindle. we talked to a lot of runners here and others who were in the area and they tell us it's the scenery that really draws them out here but when the sun sets, some say they are more aware others avoid it altogether. >> i think of this like an unsafe area when you're

running along here. that's shocking. >> reporter: for sisters rage shell and alyssa kirk news of a robbery came as somewhat of a shock though less so once they learned what time it all happened. >> i definitely wouldn't come here at like 1 o'clock in the morning or anything. but it does kind of concern me because we do kind of run along here a lot. >> reporter: philadelphia police say around 12:30 this morning a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were walking along the trail near walnut street when they were approached by a masked man. he pulled out a gun and demanded their things. the victims weren't harmed but the suspect did get away with their phones and wallets. >> our main thing is seeing if we can investigate get additional information and get this guy in custody before he can do it again. >> i'm in the surprised i'm disappointed. >> reporter: runners say the trails are great to enjoy while the sun is up. at night it can be a little risky. >> it makes me nappie have someone to run with so i'm not by myself. >> reporter: still, with or without a partner, some say it's simply not worth hitting

the trails beautiful as they may be so late at night. >> if i don't see anybody at all from the bridge i might not come down here. >> i'm only here during the daylight hours when there are other people running and walking. >> reporter: now police did increase patrols in the area here well before all of this happened. some of the officers are uniformed others in plainclothes. still they're asking people if you must come out here at least be more aware of your surroundings. as far as the suspect here, they weren't able to get a detailed description but of course anyone with information on this case are you asked to contact police. reporting live in center city, jeanette reyes, channel6 "action news. jim. >> jeanette, thank you. a bomb scare in atlantic city caused quite a commotion this morning and it's still having an impact. police blocked off the 1300 block of atlantic avenue and evacuated several buildings all to inspect a suspicious package left outside the county office building. it was an unattended suitcase.

bomb squad officers say it didn't prove to be a danger. but the lockdown delayed the city's 30th annual martin luther king jr. celebration which has now been postponed until next week. a camden man shot by police on wednesday is facing attempted murder charges tonight. the county prosecutor says 38-year-old josé fernandez ventura was involved in a domestic violence incident inside an apartment on the 2700 block of federal street. officers say they saw fernandez ventura point a gun at a woman who was holding an eight month old child on her lap. and they say the man pulled the trigger. police then opened fire. the woman and fernandez ventura are in the hospital. the infant is okay. the u.s. department of justice today released an update on the philadelphia police department. the review was ordered back in 2013. that in response to an increase in officer-involved shooting. well the review finds the department is implementing a

majority of the 91 federal recommendations including the creation of an officer-involved shooting investigation unit. mayor jim kenney is also reviving the police advisory commission. the push to repeal obamacare in washington is having ripple affects across the country. that's why democratic senator tom carper organized a news conference tonight in wilmington to focus on the importance of the affordable care act. it took place less than an hour ago at saint francis hospital. lawmakers and healthcare professionals argue that repealing the aca without an adequate replacement would be detrimental to the health of patients and the healthcare system. that's carper's point of view. coming up on "action news" tonight life is a highway. we'll introduce you to a young lady from cape may county who just wants to keep driving at 100 years old. and we'll explain what got these philadelphia school students so excited today. cecily.

accepted to a four year college. [cheers and applause] the students erupted in cheers this morning when they heard all 80 seniors have received letters of acceptance from colleges and universities. it was part of the school's honors convocation ceremony at our lady of hope parish in north philadelphia. >> i didn't think it was going to happen. i'm really proud of all my classmates and the work we've put in and it's really paying off. [cheers and applause] >> this has been four years in the making for our terrific senior class. they have hearts on fire for college. and we have a great staff that ignites that fire. >> and last year's graduating class also had a 100 percent college acceptance rate. these are america's newest citizens. they swore an oath of allegiance today at the u.s. citizenship and immigration field officers in west philadelphia. today's naturalization ceremony was chosen specifically to honor dr. martin luther king jr. in advance of the holiday on monday. these immigrants came to the

united states from more than 30 countries. it is an accomplishment in and of itself to live to 100 years old. quite another thing to still be driving a car and keeping a busy social calendar. but that is the life of cape may county resident elsie sheerer who marks her milestone birthday tomorrow. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic introduces us to this inspiring centenarian. >> ♪ >> reporter: music has always been a part of elsie sheerer's life. she learned to play piano at four and now as she turns 100 her fingers still glide across the keys. >> for 50 years you ask me a question i've been taking vitamin supplements. do you think that might have something to do with it aside from the almighty up there? they're not ready for me yet up there. when elsie was born january 14th 1917 woodrow wilson was president and a loaf of bread cost seven cents. a century later this philadelphia native has

changed her look but keeps plugging away. she plays piano at the upper township senior center each day and until recently led an exercise class there. >> she's an inspiration for all of us to not give up actually and to just keep going. >> there's not many people on this planet that make to it triple digits so it's a spectacular event. >> reporter: retiree from campbell soup she married and worked with chorus leader louis shearer until he died in 1991. these days she likes to keep busy and keep a sense of humor. >> we meet every sunday. show goes to a methodist church, i go to a baptist church. >> we'll forgive her for being baptistism elsie shearer still driving. she motors to the senior center and every sunday to trinity methodist church in marmora where she's the organist. >> the best thing we ever did was adopt her. >> reporter: doris and rick jones keep an eye on elsie. >> we try not to do holidays without her and she's just a big part of our life. >> reporter: elsie's stamina would put the energizer buddy

>> we've got some messy weather for saturday. >> little bit of a nuisance event not a big storm but some snow, some sleet. most of it will be melting on the roads. storm tracker6 live double scan showing right now we are dry. notice we are getting some echoes near baltimore. that's verga, a lot of dry air at the surface so it's not yet reaching the ground. it will take awhile for the atmosphere to moisten up. what a great sunset. this is posted to my facebook page from north cape may tom says it was really getting cold on the beach today. clouds were rolling in. those clouds will be thickening as we head through the overnight hours. temperatures, though, for january still not bad. 44 degrees our high for the

day, 61. that's deceiving. that came shortly before 1 o'clock in the morning before that cold front moved through. 44 in cape may, 42 in wilmington. allentown 36. in the poconos the cold air is arriving there currently 26 degrees. satellite6 along with action radar showing did see a good amount of sunshine today. the clouds are beginning to roll in. ahead of this ripple of energy that will bring us some snow perhaps a little bit of sleet mixed in during the day tomorrow. again for us this is not going to be a big event. it will be a bigger event for the central plains. this is where ice accumulation will build up to about an inch in oklahoma city. that's a major ice storm. kansas city about a half inch. the playoff game on sunday had to be moved from early in the afternoon into the evening to allow the temperatures to warm there. here though temperatures will be dropping into the 30's tomorrow. so, future tracker six showing around 10 o'clock in the morning we will see a few snow showers beginning to break out lancaster, near wildwood. it really fills in around

2 o'clock. this is when we'll see most of the snow falling but again, it's a light event. could get a little bit of a mixing or changeover to some rain in cape may, south of dover and then poof by about 6:30 it's out of here. so we're looking at again a nuisance event. light snow perhaps mixing with a little bit of sleet. calling for a coating to 1 inch at best. and again, since this is happening during the with temperatures above freese freezing this is on the grassy surfaces. main roads will be wet. the problem though could be saturday night. secondary untreated roads with temperatures dropping below freezing could get slick so if you're heading out on saturday night just be careful. anything that looks wet to actually be icy. behind this system on sunday, high pressure building in. that means that system really shifting down to the south. lots of sunshine not as cold, 44 degrees and then we'll see increasing clouds but still dry for martin luther king holiday on monday. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast tomorrow some
