a pleasant good morning to you, 7:00 a.m., saturday, january 15. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news," it will be a wintry saturday across the tri state region. more snow is moving into the area. details ahead on how much you can expect where you live. new overnight, crews worked to free a driver that mashed into the back of a tracker -- smashed into the back of a tractor-trailer. a south jersey home is ruined from fire and sends the homeowner to the hospital. snow and sleet. >> reporter: an aggravating event. not just a coating to an inch stuffer. here's the view, we get you outside, live in spring mountain where temperatures have not been cooperating over the last few days, they have not been able to make much snow. they will get a little bit of help from mother nature and temperatures will drop overnight

tonight. 31 degrees in philadelphia. the colder air is pulling in. we were 66 a couple of days ago. trenton, 29. allentown 27. the poconos, 19. dover, 33. cape may, not reporting at this hour, at last report they were sitting at 34. they are in the clear, as well. cold air is spilling this way down the eastern slopes of the appalachians, most of the big cities are below freezing all the way down to washington, d.c. here comes a sliver of moisture approaching from the west running into the cold air and producing light snow. the blue is sleet and freezing rain mixture. the white representing the snow, and the greens and the yellows, representing the rain. it's not even close to what we saw last weekend. cloudy this morning, light snow and sleet developing this afternoon. high temperatures close to 37 degrees. breaking it down, a little more specifically for the

philadelphia area, this afternoon the light snow will fall, but most of the roads are wet with temperatures in the mid 30s. it's later this evening, as we get closer tore -- to sunset and beyond it's a period of snow and sleet. temperatures get closer to freezing and that will create slippery travel conditions. it's not a big event for us, but it doesn't take much snow and ice to see a big problem. when i come back we'll break it down on future tracker 6, go hour by hour and how much snow is here and how much to expect for your neighborhood. >> stay with 6abc.com/weather, storm tracker 6 live double scan radar have show you what to expect and when and follow each of other meteorologists on twitter and facebook for the latest updates. time 7:02, if you're just waking up, new information to tell you about this morning, two tractor-trailers crashed on i-95 at the same time miles a part in

delaware. "action news" was right there overnight as firefighters rescued a driver from a car that barreled into the back of a big rig. this accident happened on i-95 south near churchman's road in newark. the driver of the car was taken to the hospital in critical condition. not far away, a driver escaped this burned car. it ran into the back of a tractor-trailer on i-95 south at route 273 in newark. the driver is being treated for minor injuries. the tractor-trailer drivers in both wrecks are okay. a homeowner in the hospital after a fire in burlington county, new jersey. flames gutted almost all of the home on west second street in palmyra. the homeowner got out, and overcome by smoke and sent to the hospital. firefighters knocked down the hot spots. the cause is being determined. happening right now, police in delaware county are searching for a suspect who shot and

killed a man in chester. this happened in the 3200 block of west third street around 9:00 p.m. no word yet on a motive. we're learning information this morning about a woman charged in bucks county with killing her adopted daughter. the victim was 14-year-old grace packer. sarah packer and her ex-husband david took in 30 foster kids between 2000 and 2010. david served time in prison for molesting grace packer a learning disability teen. they were arrested for raping and killing the 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered in december. rittenhouse square, a change to the park's wall and the change is not sitting too well with anybody.

>> we saw the sign and said there's no one in the park. >> reporter: in rittenhouse square signs warn the lime stone walls are off limits. >> it's not fair. >> it's not nice, i think it's kind of depressing. >> reporter: the passion department approved the rule to protect the new walls. , but it's not sitting well with some. >> it's lessen the vibe in rittenhouse square. >> we had so many people sitting on the wall that were smoking marijuana, a 3-year-old >> reporter: loiterers have been

there. >> counsel they are trying to get -- sounds like they are trying to get rid of a certain kind of person. >> reporter: a murder led to increase police presence, some worry whatever the reason, the ban will have unintended consequences. what message does it send? >> i think it's we're not open for business and we're not friendly. >> reporter: mayor kenny said the rules were implemented to protect the walls, protests are planned for next week. two cleveland police officers are facing grin from their department -- discipline from their apartment for the shooting of riles -- tamir rice at a recreation center back in 2014. the child had a pellet gun.

his partner is accused of driving his cruiser too close to rice. both officers were cleared of criminal wrong doing. the head of cleveland police union said the officer who shot the child did nothing wrong that day. tamir rice's mother settled a civil rights lawsuit with the city of cleveland for $6 million and questioning police community regulations. >> i don't feel safe any more, i don't feel comfortable knowing that we have these public officials that are not giving us the kind of benefit. cleveland safety director will determine what kind of action will be taken against the officers. the police chief will not be involved in the process. the city of chicago is planning to revamp the department after a scathing farm from the department of justice. they found that the department

has a pattern of using excessive force and violating constitutional rights for several years. it includes transparentcy and better training. federal officials say the philadelphia police department has made substantial efforts to implement changes in its use of deadly force. the justice department praised the city for implementing 91 federal recommendations for improvement. the review was ordered back in 2013 in response to an increase in officer involved shooting. a man with one of the most recognizable names at the jersey shore has died. bill morey pictured on the left with his brother bill opened surf side pier back in 1969. he was a life long resident of

deal for south jersey and delaware, temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30s, cold enough for snow sleet and freezing rain. the arctic high is passing on by to the north. some of the cold air has reached the eastern slopes of the appalachians. it continues to drive down into the baltimore metro area. as this approaches this cold air it turns into sleet and freezing rain. portions of the viewing area will pick up all three. lunch time, not snowing in philadelphia. there could a couple of snow showers far southwestern suburbs, but the city itself looks to be in the clear at that point. light snow breaks out between 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. southwest to northeast. very light stuff. with temperatures in the low 30s, roads will be wet, it's grassy surfaces and picnic

tables that will pick up a coating to an inch. we'll get into a steadier bands of light snow down tort south. this model flips cumberland and atlantic and cape may counties over to cold air. it continues until 6:00 p.m. and skies clear overnight tonight. what to expect over the next 24 to 36 hours. light snow a coating to an inch at best. main roads wet, the secondary roads could become slick especially this evening, because temperatures will drop back down again. during the heart of the afternoon we're in the mid to upper 30s. let's say 35 to 37 degrees, the snow is not sticking to the roads during the day. once the sunsets, the numbers go back down. that's why there could be icy patches this evening, and in the overnight. 37 for philadelphia. reading, 35. millville, 39. cape may and atlantic city,

we were 66 degrees the other day, i'm sure many were saying how in the world is this happening of we have a huge arctic pressure system passing on by racing west to east across the northern tier states. the leading edge of the cold air has made it as far south as the baltimore and washington, d.c. metro area. the timing is perfect that the moisture is running into the cold air. this is gone by tomorrow, and we start to warm up. there's a little bit of moisture run into that cold air. the result will be light snow and sleet later this afternoon. the snow begins between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. southwest tow northeast. it mixes in with sleet in the city especially across south jersey and delaware, maybe changing over to rain for cumberland, cape may and atlantic city counties in south jersey and delaware. it ends west to east 6 to 9:00 p.m. patience appears to be paying off for the sixers they

board, chris, what can we expect? >> reporter: not much, it's a nuisance event. 66 degrees just the other day, how are we talking snow today? we have a cold running high running the u.s./cancanadian border. 31 degrees in philadelphia. lancaster, 29. allentown, 27. the national weather service issued a winter weather advisory for lancaster and chester counties until midnight. the reason for the advisory there could be a brief period of freezing rain mixed in, as well, especially late this afternoon and into the evening hours that could produce a smaller light glaze on the secondary roads. be mindful of that if you live west of philadelphia. this is not a big event we're not talking about major snows or anything close to last weekend. this is a small batch of moisture running into that cold air. forecast for today, if you need anything done, you want to go

meteorologists on twitter and facebook for the latest updates. 7:32 a.m., new this morning, three people were shot along a philadelphia street and police are talking to security guards who fired a dozen shots during the incident. a dispute spilled out from a bar on the 2800 block of ridge avenue when the actor took a violent turn. >> private security guards on location, they heard gunshots and they saw a person firing and they returned fire, three security guards total returned fire. it was a total of 19 shots fired by security guards. >> police say one man was shot repeatedly and they found -- he was found with a gun. three other bullet shell casings came from his gun according to police, a woman was shot in the back, both are in critical condition at temple university hospital. another man's head was grazed by a bullet.

he is not cooperating with police as they sort out what happened there. a driver is dead after a crash in cumberland county, new jersey, a lincoln town car slammed into a pole along east broad street in bridgeton. this happened at 9:00 p.m. state police have not released the driver's identity. they are not saying what caused the accident. an autopsy is planned for later today on the body of a marine found dead in the camden county lake. lance jail was discovered in bottom lake in clementon. he had not been seen since december 2 when he got involved in a fight in a nearby tavern. police and marines searched for him for weeks, they say the feeling of find him was somewhat therapeutic. >> being able to bring closure to the family so they can go to sleep at night. >> reporter: james was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder. he served two tours of duty in the middle east. an autopsy may provide clues in

the circumstances of his death. police in bucks county are looking for a robber. officers say a masked man walked into the 7-eleven on newtown road early this morning. police say he showed a handgun to the clerk and demanded money from the register. the clerk was not hurt. we can tell you there were no customers inside the store. the senate intelligence committee will investigate possible contact between russia and people associated with the american political campaigns that probe part of a broader investigation into moscow autopsy mettling into the 2016 election. russia interfered with the election helped trump win the presidency. most of the committee work will be done in private. senators said they would hold open hearings when possible. the allegations of russia's interference has sparbled --

and thicken and eventually snow moves on in. down in cape may, temperatures will be a little bit milder. you may flip it over to rain before ending. as we take a look at the radars, you can see blue on the lower left-hand side of the screen. that's a wintry mix of snow and sleet that's falling east of baltimore. actually some of it stretches into far southern portions of kent county in delaware. it's cold, 66 degrees a couple of days ago. we dropped to 40 in quakertown. 26. tanersville, 23. center city, 31. chester, 30 degrees. everybody north and west below freezing. most locations south and east, are below freezing, as well. upper 20s across interior sections of south jersey. smyrna, 32. dover, 33. villas, dell haven area 33 degrees. quick moving area of low pressure run into the cold air. it's precipitating or snow,

sleet, freezing rain and rain all that mess to the west across the western portions of maryland and virginias and western portion of pittsburgh. it's west of harrisburg that's seeing the precipitation that's falling. all this will push east during the course of the day. rain to the south, a little period of icing taking place that state of blue and snow up to the north. lunchtime, looks like we're quiet. there can be a couple of snow showers at that point well west of philadelphia, but the steadier snow doesn't get into the city until let's say 1:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m., or at late as 2:00 p.m. the later start times will allow temperatures to climb than originally anticipated. that will help the roadways out. 6:30 we're raining across southern portions of cape may and cumberland counties in south jersey and entire state of

delaware, and the delaware bay region. it's snowing and come down steadily for a brief period of time before it gets on its giddy up and gets out to sea. what to expect, light snow and sleet, a coating to an i do at best on grassy -- a coating to an inch mainly on grassy surfaces. some areas could become slick as the temperatures start to drop off. this is a bump in the road, the overall pattern is nice and mild. we had three days last week in 40s and 50s and 60s. we have a small cold high running the u.s./canadian border. here comes the cold air, snow and sleet developing, a mixture of sleet and rain south of

philadelphia. delaware bay region and delaware. 37 degrees is the forecasted high. again, if you don't like to travel in the snow and the sleet, the best chances of getting stuff done would be this morning when it's cloudy and precipitation breaks out after lunchtime. overnight, a period of snow in the evening, otherwise partly cloudy, quiet after midnight. icy patches develop, 26 degrees outlying suburbs, 30 degrees for center city. i can't stress this enough, doesn't take much snow and ice to create problems on roads. there will be slick spots this evening, take it easy out there. 37 degrees, 44 tomorrow. 45 monday, here comes the jump in numbers, 50 degrees tuesday. wednesday, 56. i've seen forecast modeling as warm as 60. thursday, 52 lots of clouds. mild an friday, 53. saturday an sunday is mild temperatures in the 50s, doesn't look like the pattern breaks until tuesday and wednesday of
