equipment that is what happened to lindsey richards as she drove on the pine street expressway in philadelphia this morning it was bad and it could have been worse. it's tuesday night and the big story on action news tonight is a close brush with catastrophe for a motorist on 676. a metal bar being used for construction on the ben franklin parkway above her crashed on to her moving car. live at 20th and the parkway tonight is action news reporter christie lleto christie what exactly happened there? >> reporter: it's no secret that construction crews have been in the area making repairs to bridges for quite some time but lindsey richards never imagined metal would fall on her car and shatter some windows and land on her dog. >> it hit right here shattering like the frame. >> reporter: a mid morning drive became petrifying behind the wheel. >> the next thing it's flying through the back. >> reporter: lindsey richards

claims traveling under the 20th street bridge this foot long piece of metal fell on to her car. we didn't know what happened and the cars behind us saw it too so i don't know if anyone is going through the same thing right now. >> reporter: after it went through the windshield and shattered the back window she and her boyfriend said it hit their dog in the torso sitting in the back seat. >> a little sensitive but more shook and you know just and shocked still. >> reporter: it's unclear if the falling debris is construction related or old age of the bridge but that strip of highway in center city is under going four years of repairs as part of penn dot 65 million to preplace structurally deficient bridges including 20 street and it's penn dot project say the contractors held responsible for damage in the work zone and making buckley and company aware of the quote falling debris. >> if i had my nephew in the car

that is damaging a child you know like badly so like that is the main issue is like you guys need to do something about this. >> reporter: now penn dot says richards should contact the contractor to submit a claim and state police are also aware of this incident though there have not been any other reported incidents of this kind reporting live in center city christie lleto action news channel six. >> gunshots rang out again in southwest philadelphia tonight. police responded to the 5600 block of ridge wood street at 8:30, officers found a 25-year-old man shot in the stomach, they took him to penn presbyterian hospital where he is now in critical condition and the last week and a half police in the southwest detective division responded to at least nine shootings, two of them were deadly. in west philadelphia tonight a 37-year-old was shot twice in the head and once in the neck. the incident happened on the 5100 block of irving street at

6:30 and rushed to penn presbyterian where he is in critical condition, police are searching for a shooter. the family of a man gunned down in delaware over the weekend is sharing his story in hopes of catching his killer. 66-year-old charles mayes was shot several times while driving near the 2200 block of lamont street in willington saturday afternoon and rushed to the hospital but did not survive and his sister says the recent out break of violence in wilmington has been hard to comprehend. >> why so much killing. >> uh-huh. >> and then when it touches home why did it happen? why would someone want to just take a life? the man is almost like a life doesn't matter any more. >> reporter: mays niece tells action news she has no idea who would want to hurt her uncle describing him as a man who constantly went out of his way to help others. it has been raining most of the day but the big problem is the

62000 fine comes after officials determined that seth williams violated the city's ethics code and board says he failed to disclose 89 gifts worth 160,000 as well as five different sources of income. the fine is the largest imposed by the board in its ten year history, williams issued a statement tonight saying these mistakes were my own and accept full responsibility for my failure to do everything that was required of me as a public official and williams also apologized to the people of philadelphia. four days before leaving office president barack obama has commuted the sentence of chelsea manning, obama's clemency means the transgender army intelligence officer will leave prison in may having served six years of a 35 year sentence for leaking classified military and government documents to wikileaks. she handed over 700,000 documents and was convicted of violating the espionage act.

reporting in south hampton jeannette reyes channel six action news. quite a story there. okay, accuweather forecast cecily tynan. >> our days will be getting a little bit brighter over the next two days and still have lingering showers and we are showing this is really the last batch of it that is moving in right now. most of it is light but if you look at that yellow ban really stretching from the pennsylvania turnpike crossing route 1 on to i-95 that is a heavier downpour and moving to philadelphia and should be here within the next 15-20 minutes and more showers across lancaster, gradually as we head through the day tomorrow we will begin to dry the atmosphere out and right now you can see the temperatures are well above freezing here, philadelphia 43 degrees, allentown, 38, wilmington 44, cape may 44 and temperatures essentially holding steady overnight, the problem is the fog.
