propelled him to the presidency, donald trump promised it's not just a saying, rather a movement that continues in hours as he's sworn in as commander and chief. thursday night, jim is off. i'm monica malpass. the stage is set for donald trump to become the 45th president of the united states. it will take place here on the steps of the capital 13 hours from now. tonight, the president elect is taking place in pre-inauguration festivities, a dinner at washington union station. the president-elect is thinking about reelection saying he will win because of how he and his cabinet will have performed. trump and first lady melania arrived at noon today. the first stop, trump's hotel with a luncheon for his

transition team and incoming staff. then the family gathered at alleger cemetery, trump and mike pence laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. then to a celebratory time at the lincoln memorial. ♪ ♪ >> various performers entertained the new first family and the crowd assembled on the national mall for the make america great inaugural concert ending with a fire work display. trump addressed the crowd promising rain or shine, tomorrow's inauguration will be special. >> i'll see you tomorrow. i'll be cheering you on. you will be cheering me on, but i'm going to be cheering you on because what we have done is so

special. brian taff and sharrie williams are there. trump is promising a beautiful inaugural. what are folks hoping to hear from the 45th president? >> we asked a lot of people in town that question. they are hoping for the sound of unity in the speech tomorrow. the president elect passes by, a couple minutes ago on constitution avenue making his way from the dinner you showed to blair house, the presidential guest house of sorts where the president-elect will spend his final night as a citizen not commander in chief. he will no doubt make changes to the speech to get ready tomorrow. the city that's serving as a backdrop is dotting its "is" and crossing its "t." look at this. everywhere you look, there is a police presence, thousands of

police officers with national guard as well to make sure the event goes off safely. there are perimeters and fences around the national mall. everyone passing in here tomorrow will be screened. there are helicopters in the air and even at this late hour, street crews cleaning to ensure not so much as a speck of dust will distract from the main message and main man tomorrow on that stage there. again, that big question, what will he say? we know what a lot of people hope he will say including local lawmakers with whom i met today and said what must donald trump do tomorrow? >> i think he's likely, and he needs to, make it clear that he wants to be a president for all americans. >> i hope at this point, this is only a hope, i mop hope it's noa

>> philadelphia police are preparing for protests here as trump takes the oath. police say they know of at least a dozen marges and rallie march. >> we are going to see protesters on the street making their feelings felt and voices heard, and >> will: we'll make sure it's safe to do that. >> expect a high police presence and if you are going through the city, expect delays. >> women are running to spread their message about women's rights. a crowd met them on the independence mall. they'll end their trek saturday in washington for the women's march. they are running to raise money for planned parenthood. as of tonight, they have

collected $80,000. >> southbound lanes were shut down after a police chase ended in a crash in delaware county. it happened about 8:00 p.m. the suspects robbed a mcdonalds and fled. officers spotted the vehicle and pursued the vehicle on to highland avenue. a short time later the vehicle crashed. two people were taken into custody. no one was injured. >> a 55-year-old man died today after a violent struggle with police in north philadelphia. about 5:00 this morning, officers responded to a call about a man screaming in a truck on popular street. he reached through a window of a patrol car and grabbed a female officer's neck. officers tasered the man and after he was put into handcuffs, police noted that he was unresponsive. >> thinking that he was

overdosing they administered nar cam. >> the man was pronounced dead at the hospital and the officer was admitted for minor injuries. the taser did not penetrate the man's skin. his cause of death is under investigation. >> philadelphia police released surveillance video showing three bandits robbing a store in antioch. it shows the men had a plan to steal $60,000 worth of goods. >> posing as a customer, the employee had no idea she was about to be robbed by this man. out of frame, police say the expect used zip ties to bind a employee and customer before dimming the lights for two accomplices inside. >> they knew what they were looking for, looking for the high priced merchandise, $60,000 worth of merchandise. it was planned.

the cemetery off concord road looks like it came out of a horror movie, tomb stones toppled over, brush over taking others. >> they promise you a beautiful land of paradise. you come out here and see this. i don't think our loved ones worked their lives this hard to be buried in a place like this. the owner is 78 years old, suffering from parkinsons and one foot in the grave himself. he says he has nothing to do with this place. it's gone through the courts and he no longer has a say about it. >> it doesn't seem anyone takes

celebration tonight. hundreds of folks turned out to kick off the festivities. villanova was founded in 1842 by a group of priests. it officially opened its doors a year later with seven student. today there are more than 10,000 students. "6abc" is teaming up with the fire department for "6abc" save a life. this morning they were in holmesburg to pick up smoke alarms for family in the community. sunday, monday, monday night, heavy rain and high winds. right now, dry out there. a bit of cloud cover, temperatures dropping to the 30s, not that cold for january standards. down from a high of 49, nine degrees above normal, another mild january day. allentown 36, cape may 37 and reading 33-degrees. we had sunshine to start the day but then a veil of mid level clouds moving in, in the heart of the afternoon putting a damper on the day. no rain today. however, satellite 6 and action radar showing a conveyer belt of moisture out of the southwest. it's beginning to pull apart. it's beginning to weaken. this generally brings a quarter inch of rain for the second half of the day. morning commute should be fine, breaks of sunshine, cool and calm.

6:00, 33, 8:35. take an umbrella with you tomorrow morning. you will need it for the afternoon. future tracker showing around lunchtime, a few showers breaking out south and west of philadelphia. bad timing, light rain for the nation's capital for the inauguration. 4:00, a steady light rain and then tapering off to showery weather friday night. it's not a soaking storm, but we get that sunday into monday. the set up shows high pressure to the north and a strong coastal low developing to the south. that pulls moisture off of the atlantic. we are looking at one to two inches of rain and with the difference of pressure we have the strong gradient, wind gusts inland up to 45 miles per hour at the shore could be wind gusts 55 miles per hour. that likely causes beach e lotion and coastal flooding.
