propelled him to the presidency, donald trump promised it's not just a saying, rather a movement that continues in hours as he's sworn in as commander and chief. thursday night, jim is off. i'm monica malpass. the stage is set for donald trump to become the 45th president of the united states. it will take place here on the steps of the capital 13 hours from now. tonight, the president elect is taking place in pre-inauguration festivities, a dinner at washington union station. the president-elect is thinking about reelection saying he will win because of how he and his cabinet will have performed. trump and first lady melania arrived at noon today. the first stop, trump's hotel with a luncheon for his

transition team and incoming staff. then the family gathered at alleger cemetery, trump and mike pence laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. then to a celebratory time at the lincoln memorial. ♪ ♪ >> various performers entertained the new first family and the crowd assembled on the national mall for the make america great inaugural concert ending with a fire work display. trump addressed the crowd promising rain or shine, tomorrow's inauguration will be special. >> i'll see you tomorrow. i'll be cheering you on. you will be cheering me on, but i'm going to be cheering you on because what we have done is so

special. brian taff and sharrie williams are there. trump is promising a beautiful inaugural. what are folks hoping to hear from the 45th president? >> we asked a lot of people in town that question. they are hoping for the sound of unity in the speech tomorrow. the president elect passes by, a couple minutes ago on constitution avenue making his way from the dinner you showed to blair house, the presidential guest house of sorts where the president-elect will spend his final night as a citizen not commander in chief. he will no doubt make changes to the speech to get ready tomorrow. the city that's serving as a backdrop is dotting its "is" and crossing its "t." look at this. everywhere you look, there is a police presence, thousands of

police officers with national guard as well to make sure the event goes off safely. there are perimeters and fences around the national mall. everyone passing in here tomorrow will be screened. there are helicopters in the air and even at this late hour, street crews cleaning to ensure not so much as a speck of dust will distract from the main message and main man tomorrow on that stage there. again, that big question, what will he say? we know what a lot of people hope he will say including local lawmakers with whom i met today and said what must donald trump do tomorrow? >> i think he's likely, and he needs to, make it clear that he wants to be a president for all americans. >> i hope at this point, this is only a hope, i mop hope it's noa

fleeting home that president-elect and then president trump will appeal to the better nature. >> my home is that he will have crafted a positive, bold, constructive and conciliatory manslaughtemessage that all amen listen to and hear their president. >> there you have it, hope that unity will be the message. a live look at the capital agrow, artificial lights beneath the domestic dome. tomorrow, we hope sunshine will replace the artificial light though rain is in the forecast. we learned about the actual context of the speech today. it will not be an agenda oriented speech, don't expect policy details. it will be philosophical, personal, donald trump's ideas about the presidency.

overdosing they administered nar cam. >> the man was pronounced dead at the hospital and the officer was admitted for minor injuries. the taser did not penetrate the man's skin. his cause of death is under investigation. >> philadelphia police released surveillance video showing three bandits robbing a store in antioch. it shows the men had a plan to steal $60,000 worth of goods. >> posing as a customer, the employee had no idea she was about to be robbed by this man. out of frame, police say the expect used zip ties to bind a employee and customer before dimming the lights for two accomplices inside. >> they knew what they were looking for, looking for the high priced merchandise, $60,000 worth of merchandise. it was planned.

>> the trio dragged bags of items out the front door. >> we had a person warn us. we pulled the rack in and close the doors. >> employees at the attic, another consignment store up main street are on high alert. >> it's not high end on this end, so it's shocking to hear of something down the street. >> it's terrifying. >> we showed the surveillance video to residence who don't understand no one saw the bandits getting away. >> how does that happen? there's so much traffic, you wouldn't think they would have a good get away. >> police are looking to see if this is related to other robberies. they are asking anyone with information to contact detectives. christie ileto, "action news." >> dishonoring the dead, relatives are upset about a
