where so many showed up organizers had to change the route. saturday night i'm walter perez. the big story is the women's march across the nation. small towns and major cities, crowds exceeded estimates as millions made their voice heard. team coverage of the protests, action news is live at the ben franklin parkway but we begin in washington, dc. and guys it has been quite 24 hours. >> reporter: to say least, walter, we we don't have to agree with that, we've been here to witness what's happened. we're standing on independence avenue. this was the main stay for today's monument tall women's march on washington. we're able to stands here now, we could not have done that earlier. hundreds of thousands of people flooded the streets in washington, dc. some thought and debate about the number but we do know this, the marchers had a permit to end at the white house if they had 200,000 people but they obviously had well over that number. because they were not allowed to

parade. groups filing down independence avenue shouting individual causes and revelling in common purposes, among them arising pilot star, new jersey senator corey booker told me this amount to a message to the new president. >> i hope he recognizes this area is greater american than the one he envisioned and he's the guy that has demeaned and degraded women, immigrants, communities you within the country. there's only one way to make this country strong, to unite the country and this is people speaking out for love today. and what we heard yesterday, unfortunately was not that >> this is noon and this is a crowd been here at least six hours now with several hours left to go. and they tell us this is just the beginning >> we realize that we're down but we're not out and women are going to lead the resistance and the revolution. >> reporter: a rally they say builds on the pass and looks to the future.

channel 6, action news >> thank you jeff philadelphia people gathered in cities across the country. the message, the president, donald trump is the same. his agenda will be challenged over the next four years. here's a look at clouds and boston, chicago, st. louis and los angeles. tens of thousands of demonstrators marched to trump home in manhattan. the crowd in new york stretched 15 blocks. and the call for respective women's rights echoed from demonstrations all around the world. sizeable crowds turned out in london paris, berlin and nor way, more than 600 so call sister marches were planned around the world and organizers estimate three million have taken part in the marches world wide. we have coverage in philadelphia, washington around the world right now on the 6 abc ap. get the latest, here and in the nation's capitol.

but it's not snow. karen rogers in for melissa joins us for the first check of the accu-weather forecast >> it has been gloomy and we got a lot of weather coming our way, none good, dense fog advisory goes into effect for the entire region tonight at 10:00, i'm concerned for people driving. we're going to have visibility less than a quarter of a mile starting at 10:00 tonight. right now, we already have visibility less than a mile in philadelphia. 8/10ths, fog is causing a problem in the lehigh valley, we have half mile visibility there. 1.7 in millville and trenton. so that's only getting worse tonight. problem two, the wind. now, this wind watch high wind watch goes in effect sunday night into monday evening. and you can see along the coast line being battered with high wind up to 60 miles an hour, a gail warning in effect for the coastal water in delaware and new jersey then this, a lot of rain, walter, we're going to have the details, fog, wind rain, it's not pretty. >> gloomy.

police investigating a disturbing assault early in chestnut hill. a woman says she and her husband were sleeping when a man broke into their home and forced her to perform a sex act and stole the car. bob brooks is live in chestnut hill with details. bob? >> reporter: walter, this is nothing short of a nightmare for this couple. they were asleep in their bedroom, a suspect broken into the home, he made his way into the bedroom. he pulled out a gun and made truly sickening demands. >> philadelphia police are on

the hunt for a truly dangerous and disturbed individual. the crime he's accused of took place in chestnut hill. it's at the home of a married couple on east chestnut hill avenue. detectives say overnight, shortly after 4:00 a.m., a couple woke up to a man in their bedroom. he appeared to have a gun. made sickening demands. police tell us the suspect held a gun to the husband's head. then he forced his wife to perform sexual acts. detectives say this continued on until at one point, the suspect put the gun down and the wife grabbed it. she tried to shoot the suspect but the gun never fired. it was at that moment, detectives say the suspect fled. before the suspect ran out of the home, he stole the victim's car keys and fled in the hyundai elantra. it's a crime absolutely horrifying. neighbors want the couple to know they're in their thoughts and prayers >> god bless the victims and i hope the police catches this guy. >> that's something you read in one of these books you buy at

the airport. it's -- it's really frightening. >> reporter: at this point, no word of any arrests, investigators also say it suspect got away with the couple's wallet and cell phone. we certainly hope whoever did this is quickly caught. this is his description. asset black male believed to be anywhere from 18 to 25. clean shaven at the time. wearing a black hoodie and black sweat pants, reporting in chestnut hill, bob brooks, channel 6 action news. police are looking for this young man accused of attacking a transgender woman in center city. the victim and two friends were walking along the 13 alone block of filbert when they were approached by the suspect. it shows the man in his early 20's strike the victim. police say he shot a homophob bick and trans phobic sures before running off. anyone with information is could to call police.
