maybe it's the gold plated toilets aren't there. who knows. good friday morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm erielle reshef in for diane today. we begin with president trump poised to have his first direct conversation with russian president vladimir putin. still, the kremlin overnight confirmed that the two leaders will speak by phone tomorrow. president trump has said he wanted to develop a better relationship with russia and suggested lifting the latest sanctions imposed by the obama administration. in the meantime, there is this, the president is squaring off with mexico over his promised border wall. the mexican president abruptly called off a visit to the white house after refusing to pay for the wall. >> now there's talk of a possible border tax and abc's stephanie ramos has the latest from washington. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: good morning. president trump already signed an order to start building the

boa border wall. president trump insists the border wall will go up with american money. but mexico will eventually pick up the tab. >> i've said many times that the american people will not pay for the wall. and i've made that clear to the government of mexico. >> reporter: white house press secretary sean spicer suggested slapping a 20% import tax on products out of mexico as payment. >> right now our country's policy is to tax exports and let imports flow freely which is ridiculous but by doing it that way we could easily pay for the wall just through that mechanism alone. >> reporter: mexico's government against the idea when it was a campaign promise. >> who's going to pay for the wall. >> reporter: and still against it under a trump presidency. >> exports from mexico into the u.s., that's going to be paid by the american consumer. >> reporter: hours early in mexico's president taling the

mexican people, i said it once, i will say it again, mexico will not pay for any wall. he later tweeted his upcoming meeting to the white house was house and telling lawmakers at a retreat in philadelphia, president trump says it was a mutual decision to cancel. >> unless mexico will treat the united states fairly with respect, such a meeting would be fruitless. >> reporter: a meeting between trump and british prime minister theresa may is still on the books for today despite their differences on torture, trade and nato. aside from today's meeting with may, mr. trump will also head to the pentagon to sign more executive orders and to attend the ceremonial swearing in of his new defense secretary-general james mattis. >> a lot going on in that city right now. >> we should mention abc plans live coverage of that joint press conference at 1:00 p.m. later today. now, president trump as you know clashed with the media quite a bit and after his first week in office it doesn't look

and considers the media the opposition party whose members don't understand why donald trump was elected president and summed up by saying, quote, the media as zero integrity, zero intelligence and no hard work. learning new details about president trump's efforts to disprove media reports about the crowd size at his inauguration. according to "the washington post" the president called directly calling the acting director of the national park service the day after his swearing in. "the post" reports he asked for more photographs of the national maul hoping to prove the media lied about the size. the white house cut about $5 million inearmarked for advertising to promote sign-ups in dot gov. they have spent $60 million on efforts to bolster enrollment. before a new secretary of state is sworn in six senior

staffers have resigned. an unusually large ex-dust during a change in presidential administrations. they were told they would not be asked to stay on during president trump's tenure. rex tillerson is expected to be confirmed by the senate next week. a federal grand jury has indicted the suspect in that deadly shooting rampage at the ft. lauderdale airport. charges against him include five counts of causing death at an international airport. five people were killed during the ram page earlier in month in the baggage claim area. he has a history of meant tall illness. powerful stores that much somewh somewhated california, an upside, they're almost completely drought-free and none is falling under the exceptional or worse category but state water officials warn that until reservoirs are fully replenished they'll continue to impose restrictions. on the other side of the country, the front that brought frigid air to the midwest is moving east which means

safely. crews immediately doused the spoelderri smoldering engine. no injuries were reported. the faa is now investigating. the engineer involved in a deadly train crash in philadelphia is suing amtrak. he alleged that the railroad ignored reports that people were throwing objects at trains. he said he was disoriented after something hit his train. investigators say he was distracted by reports of another train being hit. a hotel fire forced hundreds of guests from their rooms in tampa. flames seen shooting off the top of the building. firefighters had to walk up to 27 flights of stairs to put out the flames on the rooftop there. now, officials say the blaze was caused by debris from construction work after nearly an hour, the fire was out and those guests returned to their rooms. scary images. facebook is offering another layer of security to better protect your accounts. this special usb stick designed

in this video is struck by some live power lines. the utility poles holding them came crashing down in sacramento. several people were also trapped in their vehicles by the wires. once the power shut off they all got out safely. no one injured. there shouldn't be problems on california roads this morning. just some mountain snow in the northern rockies, but it'll be slippery around the great lakes and into the northeast and new england. we're learning new details about the investigation into the murder of someone in our abc family. anne swaney was strangled to death while on vacation in the caribbean country of belize. she was an executive producer at our abc station in chicago. >> investigators have new leads about who may have been involved in her death. the fbi now offering a $10,000 reward for any information to help crack this case. abc's linzie janis has more. >> reporter: murder in paradise. 39-year-old anne swaney killed while vacationing at this eco resort and horse farm in belize.

the fbi saying it now believes more than one person may be behind the mysterious murder. >> the public believes may have information about the suspect or suspects. >> reporter: on the morning she was murdered she volunteered to stay behind from a horseback riding excursion because there weren't enough horses for everyone. when the group later returned, they reportedly found her yoga mat and other belongings on the waterfront deck but saw no sign of her. >> that's when we were alerted that her things were down at the yoga platform. >> reporter: linzie janis, abc news, new york. investigators in new hampshire say they may have solved a series of gruesome cold case murders. they've identified a drifter known as robert evans as the man responsible for the death of his then girlfriend denise bodin in 1981 linking his murder to children found in drums. he died in a california prison serving time for yet another

murder. criminal charges against a texas woman and her two daughters who called for help have been dropped thanks to the officer's body cam. this released image showing what happened when police arrived. jacqueline craig says the officer argued with her, eventually throwing her and her two daughters to the ground. you can see it there. now, police did not release the video and would not comment on it but dropped all charges against craig and her daughters. >> we have to recognize when we do something that's maybe legal but may not be the right thing to do. >> we're calling the community to continue to put pressure on chief fitzgerald to fire this officer. >> the officer was disciplined for ten days and underwent more training. that video was leaked. some incredible video as well from peru. that is what a hotel sounds and looks like as it collapses and falling right into a flood

♪ and it is time for your friday "pulse" starting with an inside look at president trump's new air force one. >> it may take a little bit of getting used to for the president. air force one is a little different than the plane than he owns himself. >> the president invited the media for a photo-op in the flying oval office after his first flight on air force one to philadelphia. the president was sitting behind his desk, his new air force jacket, you see there hanging on the chair. lots of snacks nearby and the tv blaring. >> the president's own plane, actually his plane is smaller than air force one which is a 747 of course but trump's jet has two bedrooms and a full bathroom with a 24 karat gold plated sink. who doesn't need one? the seat belts are gold plated in case you wanted to know and asked to compare the two planes. here he goes. >> well, that's a good one too
