stronger snow squalls across the delaware and lehigh valleys. storstorm tracker6 live double scan radar, i want to go in tighter on street level with storm tracker6 to a highly populated area and a lot of places where people are traveling just to the south of philadelphia along route one as we press along that i-95 corridor also into gibbstown and woodbury. we'll go in tighter on street level and this is an indication of where we are picking up those heavier burst of snow. any time they come through for darby along route 13, i-76, heading into camden, also heading into areas in new jersey, things can stick on the ground fairly quickly and this is also in a location where you're probably getting reduced visibility fairly quickly. so, as far as what we can expect right into the evening snow showers and squalls, reducing that visibility and it's right over the airport right now in philadelphia, so i wouldn't be surprised if we had some weather related travel delays. localized quit coating so use caution if our on the roads.

many who thought they had been given a green light to travel here instead stopped detained some of them turned around. >> john rawlins live in villanova and john you spoke with a lawyer whose client was caught up in all of this. >> reporter: that's correct. a law professor here at villanova is also a specialist in immigration law. she has a client that was caught up in the turmoil of hathis weekend. the law professor says on saturday things were anything but standard operating procedure. >> i think everything has been thrown into chaos at this point. >> reporter: as protesters jammed the airport saturday, villanova law professor caitlin berry was trying to talk to her client one of several passengers detained because of where they had been born. >> was told that my client had no right to have an attorney and i would not be permitted to speak with him. >> reporter: he was not

permitted to speak with family. >> reporter: her client possessed a valid immigration visa but with the spoke of the pen it was no longer acceptable. he was one of four at phl facing immediate deportation. >> being told by homeland security these people would be put back onto a plane and forced to leave the united states. >> reporter: as protesters chanted lawyers worked and a judge in new york issued a stay. the feds backed off but not before the four spent a night in jail they were left overnight and sunday morning returned to the airport. >> reporter: the controversial travel ban impacted this university of delaware student studying for a masters in genetics her husband are a ph.d. candidate in engineering. his mother was coming from iran to seat couple os four month old. she was to arrive last weekend but never departed the middle

president's idea of a temporary ban but the senator took issue with how this order was impleted. he said "unfortunately the inexecutive order was flawed. it was too broad and poorly explained. >> there are some differences to note between the actions taken by each president. we'll break it down for you first just who does this affect. president trump's executive order bars citizens of seven predominantly muslim countries from that ending the u.s. that includes syria iran iraq libya sudan yemen and somalia whats in 2011 president barack obama imposed rules that increased security but only as it affected refugees coming here from iraq. now, in regard to the seven countries that president trump has laid out in his order, we should note that none has been involved in a single major

terror attack on u.s. soil that includes 9/11. in 2011, president obama's actions came in response to a specific incident involving two iraqis who were charged with terrorism offenses in kentucky. those two refugees were living in bowling green. one leader admitted to attacking u.s. soldiers in iraq. it is believed his bombs killed philadelphia police officer janeiro pelligrini and three other pennsylvania guardsmen. back here at the big board one more point of contrast. president trump's order suspends all immigration for 90 days for citizens coming from those specific seven countries. in 2011 president obama's order which his aids say was not officially a ban lasted for six months. so, just a.m just a comparison. >> the president's immigration ban has people donating millions of dollars to the american civil liberties union. the aclu received more than

feat along 295. now with the snow coming down and the quality of the camera it's tough to see but there's an accident here in the southbound lanes of 295 right by the black horse pike leading to a 91 minute ride travel time. hour and a half that should be right around 10 minutes. absolute mess on 295 and southbound parked from 70 down to the black horse pike. i would use the turnpike or even 130 instead. now the snow came right up through delco along i-95. you can see the grassy coating on the surfaces but the road is just wet and here in south philadelphia along 95 at broad street also has mostly stopped snowing but still some wet conditions. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report just 6 miles per hour on 73 southbound in maple shade because of major accident there. right by fellowship road. we'll check it again, sharrie, coming up in the next half hour. >> thank you, matt. the man accused in a mass shooting at the fort lauderdale airport has plead not guilty. during his arraignment 26-year-old esteban santiago said he understood each of the

22 federal counts against him. the fbi says he new from alaska to from to florida with app handgun in hissed luggage. on arrival he retrieved his bag loaded the good and in an airport bathroom and opened fire. >> former president george h.w. bush is now out of the hospital. he was leased from houston methodist today after being treated for pneumonia. the 92-year-old says he is thankful for all the prayers he got during that two week stay there in the hospital. the president's wife barbara also spent five days in same hospital getting treated for bronchitis. she was able to go home last week. >> an overhead view of a gas explosion that damaged a school in delaware county blowing out the first floor windows. chopper6 was over the scene at saint's coleman and john newman school in haverford township. crews are trying to figure out what caused the explosion at 5:45 this morning. it started in the school's

boiler room. so far peco says it has checked all of the systems and they seem to be working normally but the electric and gas have both been shut off as they work to determine a cause. classes were also canceled for the daily. >> my mom picked up the phone and she was told that there was a gas leak in the boiler room downstairs. so, we couldn't go to school and they had to like open all the windows in the school. >> and again, the kids happy to have the day off from school but the school itself did suffer some damage. the windows are being repaired as you can see there. the good news as well, no injuries to report. but peco still working on a cause, sharrie. >> all right, best part of that story though everyone is okay alicia. president donald trump says he plans to reveal his pick for the supreme court tomorrow night. he says he's made his decision and will announce his nominee tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. the court has been working with only eight justices since

squalls or heavier burst of snow that move through it's very likely that you'll get sun one minute then cloudy skies and the snow showers coming on through. here's storm tracker6 live double scan raid today. you can see the snow scattered about the i-95 corridor is that especially for areas to the south and east. i want to take you just to the south and east of philadelphia right now where we are tracking a burst coming out along i-95 pressing into new jersey, so if you're in cherry hill along route 70, also into haddonfield, along the jersey turnpike we're dealing with heavier burst of snow. we'll go in tighter on street level with storm tracker6, this is causing slowdowns on the roads reducing that visibility fairly quickly in gloucester city down to bellmawr and even there in somerdale. another cluster of activity i want to show you just to the south, closer to millville and we have those snow showers once again from bridgeton along route 49 into millville southward into norristown.

expect the activity to continue through the early evening hours. then another burst tuesday. we'll talk about where that will occur in a moment. snow squalls and the total so far in elverson 1.1, .8 malvern, newtown square an inch, same in broomall. gilbertsville .3 of an inch of snow reported. temperatures are on the chilly side especially with that westerly wind its just 30 in philadelphia, 32 in reading 34 in allentown, and 33 degrees down in dover. here's satellite6 along with action radar t you can see the activity that we are tracking wintrackingwith that northerly d producing those snow showers and this is after that southern slider moved in early this morning affecting portions of south jersey earlier today t future tracker6 by 9:30 tonight showing you a lot of this moisture will start to shut off but as we get into tuesday morning, another batch of snow with a clip per system move.

"action news"'s sarah bloomquist spoke with that mother a short time ago. she joins us from west philadelphia with her story of grief. sarah. >> reporter: well, brian, that's right, just a short time ago we spoke to the mother of these two sisters killed by a suspected drunk driver on the roosevelt boulevard on saturday night as we can only imagine, they are absolutely -- she is absolutely devastated by this loss. 19-year-old kimberly phillips was the mother of two small boys, ages three and the four. her mother says she attended overbrook high. her sister 10-year-old loraya braxton was also killed

saturday night as they crossed the roosevelt boulevard at large in northeast philadelphia. police tell "action news" the girls were crossing the intersection when a jeep rangler driven by 48-year-old kenneth ruch ran right into them. police say the light had that turned from green to yellow and ruch accelerated to make the light and plowed into the sisters in the crosswalk. he continued on and was stopped by police and arrested around the corner. kimberly was pronounced dead at the scene, loraya was pronounced dead at saint christopher's hospital a short time later. kenneth ruch is charged by homicide while vehicle while driving under the influence including other offenses including involuntary manslaughter. the victim's mother spoke to us about the pain this has caused her family. >> my family. i can't even look in my family eyes because my family is facing so much pain. we not just burying one child,

we burying two. >> reporter: now phillips boykin told me she moved from west followed northeast philadelphia just one week ago to a house off the boulevard because she thought it would be safer to raise her family there. she was concerned about gun violence. now she's planning two funerals because of a suspected drunk driver. there is a vigil planned to happen at the intersection of large and the roosevelt boulevard at 7 o'clock tonight. the family is asking that everyone wear the sisters' favorite color, purple. live in west philadelphia, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." >> heartbreak pentagon. our thoughts with that family. all right, sarah, thank you. meanwhile police in west philadelphia are still trying to track down the driver who killed a grandmother and kept going. 48-year-old katherine brown was taking several children to a birthday party when she was struck friday night. surveillance video shows the white van involved in this

incident and then fleeing the scene down 57th and girard. brown who was holding her three-year-old grandson at the time died at the hospital a short time later. police say none of the children including the toddler was seriously hurt because brown made them walk in front of her. police are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to to contact them. a robber is on the run after holding up a center city bank. the heist happened around 11 o'clock this morning at the bb&t branch in the 1600 block of market street. police say the robber is clean shaven and may be wearing a burgundy beanie hat app jacket and blue jeans. >> you no doubt sought protests this weekend stemming from the crackdown on immigration and refugees. crowds gathered in cities and at airports across the country decrying that order at unamerican even as the white house calls it an overdue effort aimed at national security. now the order which bans travel from seven

predominantly muslim countries has generated a lot of questions and concern about what it means and what its effects may peanut butter. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic live at our new jersey news room today and nora you spoke with people on both sides of this issue today. >> reporter: i did, brian and the reactions range from horror and anger to absolutely full support. as you can imagine it's not going over wellly in new jersey's muslim community. i spoke with one of the local leaders this afternoon. >> keeping everybody out is the solution. >> reporter: iman mussta farrakhan says to single out members of his religion goes against everything america's founding fathers stood for. >> they said the freedom of religion. so, any time you tell a people where you can't come in because you're muslim, i mean, you have judged me without

going on. witness stand. >> reporter: at princeton university officials issued an advisory about international travel. it reads in part "we have strongly advised students and scholars who might be affected and who have travel plans in the coming days to defer travel outside of the united states until there is some clarity and legal analysis of this situation." princeton is on winter break until february 6th and there are concerns that that students and faculty from foreign countries may have that trouble getting back into the united states. >> i think that's a good idea. i definitely support donald trump as my president. >> reporter: president trump is facing protests here at home and criticism from some world leaders who say the fight against terrorism is no excuse for banning refugees. here's some local reaction. >> u.s. everybody is welcome to america. now suddenly he just pass and he's doing all this about muslims. they are human beings too. >> i think our borders should be shut down for at least five years for awhile for us to get straightened out in our own country. >> you can call it whatever

>> let's talk about the accuweather forecastly. >> all right. >> why not? so. looking at something over there. >> from a distance. >> we've got some snow showers around, guys, and it's causing some snow squalls in some locations so allow extra time if you're out and about on the

roads. we'll show you the picture outside. sky6 live in hd looking at the ben franklin bridge on this monday afternoon. you notice we've got clouds in some locations and then pockets out of sunshine. that's what happens when you get the snow showers aren't squalls that move through. you get a heavier burst of snow and then things clear out fairly quickly. we're still tracking some moisture across the region right now there in philadelphia areas to the south and east. we will go into tighter with storstormstorm tracker6 east of philadelphia along the new jersey turnpike into mount holly south of the turnpike in between route 206 and mount holly and also into medford we're dealing with the heavier bursts of snow so this is probably reducing visibility in some locations. now there's another batch of moisture that i want to show you to the north and west up through the lehigh valley along route 422 from women bells dorf eastward into reading. sot tot south of reading along

i176 there in plowville we're dealing with that moisture. so the squalls move through philly quickly. as quickly as they move in they move out. this is something we'll be tracking as we go throughout the early evening hours. it's cold outside. the temperature in philadelphia coming in at 30. it's 25 in the poconos, 32 in reading, 33 in dover. up in lakehurst 37, the upper 30's as well in atlantic city. here's satellite6 along with action radar. you could see earlier this morning twenty three have some snow showers to the south of philadelphia in south jersey and delaware. that moved out. then we had these snow squalls that moved in this afternoon and that's what we are dealing with for the rest of the early evening hours. so, for the next 12 hours, snow showers will be around it's brisk and cold otherwise. we drop down to 20 in the suburbs for the overnight low and 25 degrees in philadelphia. future tracker6 showing you we get rid of the snow we had today and then we're tracking app clipper system off to our north so 7:30 in the morning tomorrow through the lehigh valley reading allentown and the poconos some light snow showers are expected.

same thing by noon but as this system pivots on through by 6 o'clock in the evening tomorrow, a couple of rain showers working their way down along the i-95 corridor. so, when it's all said and done, expected snow is really to the north of philadelphia and you really have to travel north of i-78 to pick up that accumulation. so, up in the poconos one to 3 inches of snow expected. but then as you move down into allentown and reading, we could find a coating to an inch. same thing for easton quake county and kutztown as well. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. on tuesday, snow to the north and the rain showers along the i-95 corridor later tomorrow afternoon, a high of 42: thursday it's sunny and colder foreground hog day, a high of 38f friday a high research 34 with clouds and sun. saturday we're dry and at 33. then possible late day snow is likely as we get into sunday, high temperature of 35. we'll track that system as we go throughout the weekend but something to keep in mind for all of the super bowl plans, maybe some parties on sunday

radar. >> hi monica and rick. double scan live showing what we're looking at right now is a short wave. it's a piece of energy moving through and this is creating the pop-up snow squalls. it's almost like in the sip time when you get those pop-up air mass thunderstorms but they're pretty intense as they move through and they can reduce and visibility and quickly coat the ground. the most intense band right now is moving into burlington county. it's crossing route 70, browns mills, wrightstown, it's moved through mount holly, route 38 and as we zoom in some of the areas that you see in the bright pink that's the heavier bands and that's what really reduces visibility almost like whiteout conditions. this one heading through fort dix road, another one over pemberton road. this is the most intense band moving east at 25 miles per hour. we have a few more developing, though, in chester county and berks county that would be rolling through t so, very quickly, it can drop a quick amount of snow in a short period of time. elverson reporting 1.1-inches, malvern a little less than an inch newtown square and
