immigration travel ban. the president met with small business leaders today but was holding firm on his order tom to suspend the refugee process and ban all immigrants from seven middle eastern countries for 90 days. trump insisted that the chaos at america's airports last night was the result of a computer glitch not the protests over the travel ban. however o-the chaos actually began saturday with protesters packing airports including philadelphia. democrats in congress say they will introduce legislation to stop the ban. and several hundred american diplomats have that signed app so-called dissent cable which says the ban runs counter to american values and will fuel anti-american sentiment around the world but trump countered by issuing this tweet. there is nothing nice about searching for terrorists before they can enter our country. this was a big part of my campaign. study the world. it is not just democrats but

growing numbers of republican lawmakers who have expressed concerns about trump's executive order on immigration. among them pennsylvania senator pat toomey. toomey released a statement this morning saying that while he supports increased vetting, "unfortunately the initial executive order was flawed. it was too broad and poorly explained ." lehigh valley republican congressman charlie dent told the washington post he understands trump's intention but the order appears to have been rushed through without full consideration. and democratic lawmakers continue to speak out against trump's executive order today. all called the policy unsafe. >> in fact it's not enhancing our national security. in fact, it might be strengthening the recruiting for isis. the executive order is unamerican, i think it ultimately makes us unsafe and it should be modified and hopefully we won't go there again. >> more than ever this is a time that we should be

doubling down on american values and understand that doing sole makes us safer and stronger as a nation. >> the trump travel ban bans syrians from and enter, the united states indefinitely. and such a ban regardless of what you think about it can't help but cause heartache for syrian families already in the united states. walter perez has spoken to such a family in allentown today. walter, what have you found there? >> reporter: well, jim, as you mentioned i found heartache here in allentown. the family worked for years to get six members of their family here to the u.s. from that syria. they even bought and renovated a home about a block away from here to give them as a gift when they arrived on saturday. well, they did arrive but they were sent back to syria the very same day. ly. >> just waiting to see what's going to happen. they were very angry about the way they were treated. she's talking about the six members of her family who were sent back to syria this weekend just hours after their

arrivally in philadelphia. earlier today, she gave us a private tour of the home in allentown that she and her husband bought and renovated as a gift to give those family members they were expecting on saturday. they say the worst part of this ordeal is that customs officials would not let them communicate with their family members who were detained for a short time at phl tonight those loved ones are back in damascus. >> they felt they were treated like criminals and it's not right. it's not our way. it's not the american way. everybody has their right. >> reporter: immigration attorneys respect expected to file a motion in federal court to have those revoked visas reinstated. meanwhile we spoke with albert abdul who says they should consider filing a civil suit against president trump. >> they should apologize to them bring them back here first class because give them some dignity to these people. >> reporter: making matters worse they are members of the orthodox christian church

ban continues on 6abc.com. we'll bring you the latest updates from president trump's administration along with continued reaction from across the tri-state area. authorities in quebec city now have one suspect in custody in the wake of last night's deadly shooting at a mosque. six people were killed. more than a dozen others were injured. the prime minister of canada has called this an act of terrorism. originally police arrested two people but have since said one was a witness. prime minister justin trudeau has told the 1 million muslims in canada we are with you. islamic society. they say they put in as much suit as they think they can. they say the real problem is that this is happening in the first place. after what happened in quebec muslims say they're scared. earlier today we spoke with one man walking into the islam sick society who says his adult children are thinking about fleeing the united states. >> today my son he engineering. my daughter she's a police officer. they call me. they said to me, dad, we are going to apply forecar jo for an another country. >> we've done pretty much what we can. >> reporter: but says the current political climate is making it tough for his community. >> i feel this is a direct manifestation of the hate that our president unfortunately is spreading. >> reporter: in voorhees we spoke with iman sammy hossain

who says he's not surprised this happened. >> sooner or later something like that is bound to happen with the sentiment that's going around in this country, throughout the world basically. >> reporter: his mosque has taken measures to secure the building but also says to prevent violence bridges between cultures need to be built. >> the communities or the individuals who have some sort of phobia towards muslims they need to actually get out of their comfort zone because we're getting out of our comfort zone as well. >> reporter: this morning we sat down with attorney and former president of the new jersey muslim lawyers association ahmed solomon. he, too, echoed the same sentiment. >> there's a verse in the koran that says god put you on this earth so that you could get to know one another. >> reporter: all three men i spoke with say they as well as all muslims that they know have opened arms to speaking with people about their religion so if you want, pop into your local mosque and they can begin to build those friendships and bridges. reporting live in northern

liberties bob brooks channel6 "action news." jim. >> bob, thank you. the jersey shore got a healthy dusting of snow this morning and ocean city looked more like a winter land than a summer resort and we're seeing some snow showers and squalls elsewhere in the tri-state area. let's get the latest from meteorologist cecily tynan tonight. cecily. >> and jim, cape may got 3-inches of snow from this morning's system. now we have a.m. pieca piece ofy that's moving through sparking some snow squalls. it's kind of like the air mass when you have the pop-up thunderstorms. we had one that moved through philadelphia at 4 o'clock. this is exiting northern lbi. there are a couple more waiting in the wings, not quite as intense but this is one area of snow squalls moving through king of prussia right now crossing 422, 202, heading towards malvern and radnor right now, heading towards the schuylkill expressway. it's moving to the southeast at about 20 miles per hour, so they're very fast moving. this is other batch is moving through reading right now crossing 422. they're not all that intense

but what they do very quickly is drop a coating to even al littla littlebit more than a in. blackwood reporting a coating to an inch of snow. they also reduce the visibility as they move through. so, this is what top expect this evening. isolated snow squalls now that the sun has set. they'll become fewer and farther between but as it moves through reduced visibility, again a quick coating so definitely slow things down on the roads. i'm track, another system tomorrow. i'll have details on that in the accuweather forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. there will be a vigil tonight for 22 sister who's were killed saturday night by... two sisters who were killed saturday night by an alleged drunk driver. authorities have that identified the 19 and 10-year-old girls. sarah bloomquist has been following this tragic story today and is live in west philadelphia with the latest. sarah. >> reporter: jim, the mother of the two girls killed on the

roosevelt boulevard is here with family in west philadelphia this evening as she grieves over the denc over f her two daughters. she's devastated after losing two of her children saturday night to a suspected drunk driver. >> my family is torn. my family system facing pain. >> reporter: loretta phillips boykin is looking to her family now to help her get through this time of unimaginable pain after the deaths of her two daughters. 19-year-old kimberly phillips was the mother of two boys ages three and four. her little sister, 10-year-old loraya braxton, was also killed. >> we not just burying one child. we burying two. >> reporter: the sisters were making a trip to the corner store to buy snacks. they were in the crosswalk at large and the roosevelt boulevard around 11:45 when police say a jeep rangler driven by 48-year-old kenneth ruch ran right into them as he

tried to make the light when it turned from green to yello yellow. yellow. >> cross the street and my oldest daughter protected her little sister. >> reporter: ruch kept going and was stopped by police and arrested around the corner. he's now charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. phillips boykin said she moved a house just off the boulevard one week ago concerned about gun violence she thought it would be safer than west philadelphia to raise her children. >> so many kids keep dying right there on the boulevard. and we need something done. >> reporter: incredibly she says she holds no hatred for the man now charged with her daughter's death. >> god has to judge him and he will get his judgment. >> reporter: now, the family is leaving west philadelphia right now. they're headed to large and the boulevard where the crash happened. they will be gathering there

>> a gas explosion damaged school in haverford this morning. the blast blew out the first floor windows. peco is still working to determine what caused the explosion. it happened in the boiler room at 5:45 this morning. classes were canceled for the day. the school will be closed until friday at the earliest while they make repairs. 50-year-old joseph dopirak jr.ly delaware has been charged for a seventh time with driving under the influence. police say he was drunk and speeding the wrong way down a kent county road when he was pulled over in harrington early saturday morning. dopirak has six previous convictions for dui. police say he wasn't supposed to be driving a vehicle without an ignition interlock device. the widener school of nursing's community nursing clinic celebrated its five year anniversary today. "action news" was there for the celebration this afternoon at city team in chester. student volunteers and patients spoke out about on

>> some areas of the jersey shore got some substantial snow. >> they got around 3-inches in cape may this morning. now we have a few snow squalls out there. really isolated double scan live showing that they're not widespread. you really have to look closely but they are cause something travel problems. i stole matt pelman's traffic cam. this is the schuylkill expressway at king of prussia. if you look closely allow your eyes to kind of adjust to it we do have some snowflakes falling there. the road is wet. it's slowing things down. this is why. this is that one little snow squall that moved through king of prussia its right over the schuylkill expressway and the blue route and that's that pink and that's the heavier snow that's falling. reduced visibilities very

quickly. it can also coat the ground. there's another one right now that's moving through berks county. this one not quite as intense. it's pushed through reading. it's basically going right along 422 moving at about 20 miles per hour and the other more intense cell that was over center city at 4 o'clock, this is now pushing off of lbi and everything is beginning to diminish in intensity. temperatures though show it's cold enough for snow. philadelphia 32 degrees, down from a high of 39 which is 2 degrees below normal. reading which got some of that snow at 29 degrees right now cape may 30, trenton 31 and allentown also 31. satellite6 and action radar showing it's what's called a short wave. it's a piece of energy rolling through. it's pushing away right now. skies are clearing out to the west so the snow squalls won't last much longer but there's another system waiting in the wings. this is a clipper that's moving through the midwest and the great lakes and this will move through the northern zones tomorrow with some snow

showers. philadelphia we're look, at some rain showers. to and night those early snow squalls, some slick spots possible with temperatures dropping into the 20's so do be careful driving tonight. 25 in philadelphia, cape may 29, reading 21, and allentown 20. future tracker showing tomorrow morning lots of clouds. mostly cloudy at 7:30. notice snow showers across parts of the northern counties. around lunchtime still snowing in the lehigh valley and poconos. by the time it moves through philadelphia it's too warm for any snow. looking at rain showers here but our northern areas are going see some accumulating snow. generally from reading, quakertown, lehighton, allentown we're looking at a coating to an inch of snow. the poconos a little bit. the ski resorts about one to 3 inches tomorrow. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, some snow showers to the north. afternoon rain showers in philadelphia, 42 trees the 42-de high. wednesday 38 before a cold front runs through.

behind that system foreground hog day back in the sunshine but it's colder 38 degrees. friday clouds and some sunshine, 34. heading into the weekend, saturday will be cold but quiet. mostly sunny with a high of 33 and then things could get more interesting on super bowl sunday. the possibility of some snow developing in the afternoon, evening hours, a high of 35 degrees. monday clouds breaking for some sun with a high of 39. the big question is will sunday's event be just a nuisance event or a stronger storm. materially to tell. i'll keep you posted. >> thanthank you cecily.
